London 2012 Olympic Competition

Medal haul up to 14 and fifth in the table right now. The US only have 30 total so considering the size difference the UK is doing pretty well.

Unfortunately Gemma Gibbons lost out in the gold medal fight. Fought hard to the end though, well done to her.

What's going on in the cycling? Just saw one of them fall off but there is no sound on the TV at work:confused:

Got to say I think the location and set up for the beach volleyball is fecking fantastic.

Problem with the front wheel of the bike looked like something locked up or failed just after the start.

They seemed to restart- are they allowed to go again if the bike packs up?

Yeah they can and got through as the fastest team even after all the problems with first start. Looking like might be a problem for Pendleton and Varnish at the change over, might be Pendleton went too early at the change over. Hope not as not be a good way to end the day on this.

Ah OK- got one eye on a feature I desperately need to finish and the other on the TV or the Caf! Hard to keep up with it at the mo'!

Christ! Did you see the thighs/quads on the opening German rider? fecking huge

Pendleton and Varnish have been dq'd for just going fractionally too soon at the change over :( Shame for Varnish as she has no more events this time around.

Christ, with the doping culture in American sports that seems a little rich. However, her performance was absudly good and seems suspicious, on the other hand, so was Usain Bolts in Beijing and he never gets accused.

I can certainly understand why, because if a country has a track record of blood doping (I think 10-12 years ago China produced swimmers who were tested positive on several occasions and in a few swimmers), you would be more skeptical. But I totally agree with you such is a bit rich coming from the Yanks! lol

Can't figure out who Cavendish reminds me of.

For me we need to do a lot better in the track and field compared to Beijing.

Yeah China relegated to Silver for being too tight with the change over so Germany win the Gold so at least they were consistent after doing the same to GB before.

You would think you would get this nailed in training.

Really is pretty disgraceful when the two best teams are DSQ.

Rubbish decision.

It was too close to call.

Chinese cyclists stormed off in protest - don't blame them.

They are at least applying the rules fairly across the whole teams and they are clear as to how to do the change over. One of the Chinese women has walked off in a huff and doesn't want to collect their medal, compare this to Pendleton who accepted her dq and took it without complaint showing class in how she handled the dissapointment.

Edit: she has come back to get her medal after all wonder if someone had a word with her while she was away.

Err Varnish stormed off.

Err Varnish stormed off.

She didnt want to do interviews which is fair enough it was her home Olympics so she was upset, she didn't storm off looking like she was going to refuse to take part in the medal ceremony because she has been demoted.

The sad fact about this is that the 2 teams who broke the world record didn't win the Gold.
