London 2012 - Cycling

He's not, he's German.

In fairness, it's like comparing taking a dive for a penalty (if Hinds actually wasn't lost in translation) and throwing a match. The reason the Badminton teams got chucked in my view was not because the bent the rules but because the essentially cost the people who attended the games a lot of money.

It's not even comparable to diving for a penalty.

Why not? Genuine question as it seems to have been brushed under the carpet. I definitely don't know enough about the sport. Of course we could go along with the conspiracy theorists but I don't buy it because the paying public weren't directly cheated.

It's definitely a bit of a shady move but the race was restarted.
I think what he did is something all teams do, which is why there's been no complaints from anybody. I think they'll have to change the rules but then if you do have a genuine mechanical problem, it's going to be harsh.

Regardless, it's not in any way comparable to what happened in the badminton. It's the exact opposite in fact - he exploited the rules to do the best he could, not to try to lose.

Didn't the badminton women "exploit the rules" in order to get the opposition they preferred in order to reach the final, i.e. exploited the rules to do the best they could?

Not in the specific match they were playing I presume. Like I said I believe they got chucked out because they threw the match they were playing, they bend the rules to win the match.

In any case it does seem like Hinds' words got twisted by the journo.

When I was comparing it to diving for a penalty. I meant in the sense that everyone does it despite it being shady. What rarely happens though is what happened with the Badminton teams which is where the outcry happened.

I guess they broke the rules rather than bent them. I don't know really.

It does leave a bit of a bad taste in the mouth.

Question, as I've not a clue about this sport: This was the final so two teams (France the other) cycled simultaneously? Did Hindes "fall" mean that France had to re-start as well? It probably sounds more like diving to win a penalty, but it's surely cheating. (The "lost in translation" defense wasn't very convincing IMO.)

Hindes fell against Germany in a qualifier and yes they had to restart as well. As the team had to check to see if the mechanical issue in the bike.

There was no way Germany could have carried on as Hindes was laid out on the track.

Same old story, we let a foreigner on the team and they start diving. :)

Pendletons kick was fecking brilliant. Had goosebumps for that shit. Though then again, out of everything, cycling is the one sport here I do truly care about away from the Olympics, so yeah, seeing them dominate is awesome. Didn't see the Chinese pair stopping her in the Team Sprint either, shame about that, 4 out of 4 would of been insane, 9 out of 10 with the other being a lame DQ will do just fine though....;)

Another world record and with ease.

GB must carry such a fear fear factor.

Well done!

Let's all make sure we remember this, it's a golden age.

How many velodromes do we have in the UK now i wonder?

now that is quite cool - parading your gold medals in front of the home crowd singing Hey Jude with Macca joining in.

I don't remember having seen this before, it's quite fun to watch.

Thansk for posting that list from Wiki Paul. I can't imagine there'll have much difficulty securiing money for a refurb.

how did Clancy do in the elimination race? Canadian tv cut to an ad break as soon as the Canadian was out and didn't go back to it.

Did really well, got eliminated with 4 others left. Had to do one last great surge to stop himself from being eliminated before and was knackered by the end of it.

Sounds cool- is there a link to see it? Can't find it on iplayer of BBC website?

9 of the 10 seriously has to be a distinct possibility at this point. All 5 left, at worst, should all get Silver. Pendleton and Hoy are both clearly on missions to finish their Olympic careers in style, Trott, Kenny and Clancy some doubt I guess, but the Velodrome is on fire and that's huge for those sudden bursts of momentum for the Brits.

That DQ is gonna hurt even more.

Anyone else read about the French being suspicious of why/how the Brits have been so dominant? Basically insinuating we were drug cheats.

They had a French journo on the BBC yesterday, when asked he put it more down to culture with a dash of technology. For in France there is not only the emphasis on road racing but also their sporting strategy does not focus on the Olympics as they do in the UK [they are not looking for their athletes to first and foremost peak around the four year cycle of the games].

It's Pendleton vs Mears again today. :) And the conclusion to the women's Omnium.

In the end the GB team got annoyed with all the questions, so took the piss by saying "The secret is, our wheels are really round". Next day in L'Equipe, that was the headline.

Big afternoon coming up.

Trott in the omnium, Pendleton in the sprint and Hoy going for #6.

Super Tuesday perhaps? I hope so, I love watching this at the olympics.

Damn, Trott finished behind Hammer from the US and I think it she may have to settle for silver.
