Loic Remy

From Sport Bible: "Liverpool have pulled out of the deal to sign Loic Remy after realising he wasn't a Southampton player."

I reckon Mr. Wenger snuck into Brendon Rodgers house and threatened him to pull out.

He is a good player, but very twatish. Will be funny if he will be forced to stay with Harry and his QPR.

Remy at £8.5M would have been a great signing for Liverpool and I don't see them making a shrewder attacking signing than that for £10M or less. It isn't necessarily negative news though, it might now mean putting that money towards a striker who is a tier above Remy, although there aren't many available, but it might also mean Wilfried Bony.

Who is better, available, and willing to join Liverpool that they should be splashing out on?

£8.5 gets you feckall these days. He's definitely worth more than that. Surprised Liverpool didn't just take the gamble for that fee, especially since he hasn't been injured much since he moved to England.

Yup, I'd even take a punt on him if we got rid of Chicharito.

No one for that amount of money. However, Balotelli, Martinez and Cavani are some players who are superior and attainable. Though, I admit I can't see Liverpool signing those players.

I don't think any of them would want to join Liverpool. Maybe Martinez.

They could acquire Balotelli or Martinez for sure. Liverpool are a massive club.

Cavani would be difficult due to price/wages but I'm sure they'd be able to get him, I doubt they'd want him though due to his massive price/wages.

They aren't getting any of them now especially Cavani. They have already spent close to £100m even without Remy.

Martinez would be a pretty simple acquisition, but Balotelli is an entirely different proposition given his wages and stature and I could see a host of teams in for him if he is available. I would be incredibly surprised if they have any chance of signing Cavani, as they aren't an illustrious option compared to many clubs. I can't deny Liverpool's standing in English football, but i really don't see them as the same attraction across Europe.

I think you're overrating Balotelli and his draw. He's never been a true success at any club he's been at - he was good in patches for City and Milan but I can't see that many being in for him. Arsenal and Liverpool the only two I can really think of.

Cavani, well they won't purchase him I don't think so it's not really worth debating. He'd cost too much.

Have they?! Now I think about it, it is probably around that amount now with Lovren. Still, they got £75m for Suarez and could have others leaving + normal summer budget so they could make another major signing at least.

I'm annoyed this has collapsed to be honest. It didn't stop Newcastle or QPR when he banging goals in for them, now we'll just ponder like Stoke did with Demba Ba if he carries on scoring with another club next season. It probably means we'll turn our attention now back to Bony and fork out 20m for him sadly.

I heard he failed after they got a 'second opinion' from another doctor, he literally is Junior Soprano when it comes to medicals, we should think about sending someone down to get tough on our club doctor.

Didn't they announce a loss of £50m or something last year as well? Maybe I'm mistaken and thinking of another club.

Doubt it, they must have some pretty tasty revenue anyway and also with CL football + resurgence in league form plus player sales I can't see them being hard up.

For the right price Bony would be a good striking option. People are underrating him here. He is more or less the same level as Remy

I don't think we need someone like the three you mention. Nothing to do with their ability, just that ideally we'd be going for someone capable of either playing out wide and/or deeper. Playing a leading striker alongside Sturridge doesn't seem like it would be a good partnership to me, and means we're pretty much struck playing 2 strikers unlike Rémy who gave us the chance to switch to 4-3-3.

Both will score similar number of goals, but I think Remy would have been the better fit for Liverpool.

Bony and Sturridge together up front would be just awful.

Bony's the sort of striker a lower half team builds their attack around setting up, he'll be ridiculously out of his depth trying to play the sort of football Liverpool did last season. Will end up like Darren Bent did at Spurs.

Perhaps, but you need to compensate for the departure of Suarez in some form and ideally it would be a marquee player. That doesn't necessarily mean a forward and it should be someone tactically flexible with pace, so it could be someone like Shaqiri or Reus for instance. However, someone at Remy's level or slightly lower, along with Lambert would be quite disappointing from a Liverpool perspective I think.

I do think Remy would have been a very shrewd signing though.

Hard to judge from a friendly, especially a first outing but Markovic from what I saw did well last night and clearly has a lot of pace.
I think with him, Sterling, Coutinho, Lallana plus maybe the likes of Ibe & Suso (assuming they are not loaned out), gives us plenty in that department.

I agree on Remy, I don't know who the alternative will be though it's clear the manager is looking at alternatives.

Anything Ibe does next season should be a bonus. We should not be going into the season relying on him. I also think we need another striker and a winger regardless of the impact of those two. I think Coutinho and Lallana will both play centrally.

Saw on another forum James Pearce saying we are after a striker and 2 full backs now and that will be it.

Ibe would be great option from the bench.

Two full backs, one forward and a goalkeeper would be ok if we keep Borini. If Borini goes another attacker is needed.

I think Ibe can be a star, but I don't think we should do what we did with Sterling in his first season.
