Livestream out of Syria

Is SS sill active? Haven't heard from him in ages.

The Arab League sound pretty serious about getting involved, sounds like a good thing to me. Has the AL ever gotten together to fight another Arab state?

The Arab League are a joke, plain and simple. I mean wonderfully democratic nations such as Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Yemen satirically forming a 'democratic friends of Syria' union tells you all you need to know about it. The only reason they're getting involved is because their hatred for Iran (Syria is a firm ally of Iran) which has pre-determined their stance. Meanwhile they're more than happy to simply brush aside similar oppressive acts against dissidents by the Bahraini and Yemeni regimes.

Nevertheless its amusing to see how the west is suddenly so willing to take them seriously now. I mean they were more or less told to get fecked when they voiced concerns over the Iraq war and Palestinian question, but suddenly they're a legitimate and important organisation now that these 'concerns' are focused on Iranian ally Syria.

It would be nice if they policed their own neighborhood without any outside help. Highly unlikely though.

This Wed. at 5pm on We Act Radio will be the President of Syrian Americans for Democracy from NYC. Asaad Aref has just returned from Turkey where there are 1,000's of refugees from Syria. He told me there have been at least 11,000 people killed by Bashar al-Assad's military and more than 100,000 individuals jailed in stadiums and public schools due to the protesting.

I spoke with him for about an hour on the phone yesterday. Our radio Station We Act Radio 1480 AM show with host Kimone will interview both Mr. Aref and Nour the director of the Syrian Emergency Task Force from Washington, D.C. We Act Radio | truth is our product

Mr. Aref will be trying to provide us with more livestreaming channels. He needs to speak with the people on the ground to get there approval prior to giving us the links. It should be worked out within a couple days.

I asked about the safety of the livestreamers, Asaad Aref tells me several livestreamers have been caught and killed but the technique is to set up a livestreaming iphone and leave it unmanned.

-----------

In other news related to livestreaming out of Syria. @WillfoReal is a livestreamer from Occupy Wall Street, he will be flying into the middle east on Friday to make his way into Syria to livestream what is going on.

I think it's insane, but you can't tell these indy-journalists a damn thing. Prayers go with my friend Will on this journey. https://www.wepay.com/donations/willyforeal

How safe are your livestreamers in the West Bank and Gaza, Bob?

I can't roll the way I used to here at the Redcafe. With all the media stuff I'm involved in, I just can't do that. Don't worry, I will not be hosting anything on CNN, anytime soon. I am in the background networking and planning events, mostly.

Keep up the good work. Though I do hope you report both sides of the Syrian conflict - its not just anti-Assad forces who are being brutally murdered, thousands on the other side are also being indiscriminately killed.

Once my friend Will gets there, he will be showing both sides. I am certain of that.

This from yesterday in London for those killed in Syria:

A comprehensive piece from Al Jazeera on the situation in Syria

Who really calls the shots in Damascus? - Inside Syria - Al Jazeera English

Who really calls the shots in Damascus?

As violence worsens, we ask if the regime views the failure of the UN resolution as an excuse to step up its crackdown.

In the past week, since the Russian and Chinese veto in the UN Security Council, we have seen a significant rise in violence on the streets of Syria.

A number of the countries that supported the vetoed peace plan are urgently looking at new solutions.

Meanwhile, the propaganda war is also being stepped up by all sides.

The US State Department has released satellite images of what it says are heavy weapons being used to shell residential neighbourhoods in the city of Homs.

And there conflicting claims inside Syria over who was responsible for bomb blasts in the city of Aleppo.

So, who can stop the bloodshed in Syria, and what can regional powers do while deep divisions among the international community remain?

Has the Syrian regime viewed the failed UN resolution as a victory and an excuse to double down and step up its crackdown on the uprising?

What is going through the minds of the Syrian leadership and who really calls the shots in Damascus?

Has the failure of the UN resolution accelerated the militarisation of the uprising?

Joining Inside Syria to discuss this are: Bassam Imadi, a former Syrian ambassador to Sweden; Yousef Kanli, the former editor-in-chief of Turkish Daily News; and Abdel Khaliq Abdella; a professor of political science in the United Arab Emirates.

"Millions of Syrians and millions of Arabs are saying 'shame on you China, shame on you Russia' for supporting a brutal regime and for being on the wrong side of history and on the wrong side of justice."

Abdel Khaliq Abdella, a professor of political science

A series of videos of past and present from an anonymous source inside Damascus:

Quote sent with video: 'People mistakenly say the first protest was held in Daraa on 15/3/2011
it was actually in Damascus 17/2/2011'

For most people this probably isn't news ~ but just in case this is the 'only' place you're getting your news:

The UN overwhelmingly voted to condemn the actions of Bashar al-Assad.

Russia and China vetoed any action/aid to the the situation in Syria.

NATO has taken the same stance ~ They think it's a terrible situation, but tough shit, they're not lifting a finger to help the Syrian people being butchered by Bashar's hired guns.

~ At this point, I would love to do what I have been used to doing in the past. But I holding back on speculating on the reasons why nobody is helping.

I feel ashamed this is happening and my country is sitting here doing nothing. I'm sure if Syria had alot of oil the situation would be very different. Disgusting.

So, what is it that China and Russia didn't like that made them decide not to back the resolution?

Don't know the intimate details... From what I've heard, Syria is a key strategic location country for China and Russia, possibly in the same way that Israel is to the USA.

Will from Occupy Wall Street is now in Turkey... He has decided to wait for tech support (Geoffrey Jiraffa @Jiraffa) who will be landing in Turkey today or tomorrow before heading into Syria.

https://twitter.com/#!/Jiraffa has played a key role in support @Timcast Tim Poole of the Occupy Wall Street livestream group that has gained a large following in the USA.

Word from China ~ Military support from Iran

Iranian ships reach Syria, China warns of Civil War |

'The West' have been hands-off... wtf is China going on about. Nobody but Bashar has provoked the response from the Syrian people. The Arab Spring is one of the few things that could have been prevented by Arab (middle-eastern) leaders, and is being dealt with the by people of those nations.

*Excluding the situation of the Lybian intervention, which would be widely recognized as a success.

Something I haven't considered... maybe China thinks that I am meddling in the Syrian conflict by posting this thread, but my name isn't West.

AH HA!!! I just realized... it MUST be this guy that China is talking about!!!

So how's the resistance coming along?

Saw something in the news today about the State Department not completely ruling out providing arms to the opposition is certain things on the ground changed.

'Friends of Syria' seek humanitarian access in days |

For days people have been trying to get humanitarian aid to the victims of this conflict. If you have any capacity to contact someone with any influence, please do it as soon as possible. The killing is beyond a # which can be counted at this point because of the chaos. The Syrian people are only asking for a 2 hour cease-fire to get the wounded out and bring in medical aid.

I have worked it out for Occupy DC to support the Syrian protest 1 year anniversary gathering at the White House on March 15th, yesterday.

Today, I will be introducing the VP of Syrian Americans for Democracy to a few key individuals at Occupy Wall Street in NYC. Also joining us for lunch is one of the brightest guys in the Occupy movement, to get him on the side of the Syrian people, Jessie Lagreca. Wall Street Activist Owns Fox News Producer, Fox Bury Interview 2011 - YouTube

Jessie now has a popular radio show, out of NYC.

Stay tuned... I have Occupy Support for a Free Syria posters coming soon. Yesterday, we sat down and discussed concepts at an Occupy DC retreat.

Occupy is not scattered.... rather we are the aggregate collective conscience of the gathered. <~ Talking point that I came up with at our conference, yesterday =0]

Today, we embrace the suffering of the oppressed in Syria.

Military intervention would be a clusterfeck though. It was easy with Libya who had no serious army.

You got that one right, quite simply unless we can bring about a 180 degree shift in the stance of Russia and China then nothing will happen on Syria.

Quite simply on an issue that has no national security implications or even national interests for a western country, we will not risk the backlash it will cause in Moscow and Beijing because in the not to distant future we may need their support or at least their non-involvement should we determine it necessary to go into Iran. If we do act on Syria now then they would do their best to make it difficult for us to go after the Iranians - so basically are we willing to get involved in a conflict where there are no national security interests if that makes it more difficult for us, or even impossible, to act on actual security concerns in the very near future?

That is international relations for you, no event however benign or good intentioned is ever isolated from the main narrative.
