Liverpool's squad - any interest?

feck me, Lucas Leiva gets injured and seems to have been given the Darren Fletcher treatment

From everyone saying he's terrible, he's now become as over-rated on here as he is on RAWK

Disagree with that. There's been a steady improvement in the last 18 months or so and was terrific for all of this season until he got injured. Personal opinions aside, his stats were ridiculously good. Especially in big games.

The Darren Fletcher analogy isn't bad though. So long as you're talking about Fletcher at his best, when he was a massive pain in the arse for all our strongest opponents.

his reputation and character now makes him untouchable but based on football alone surely you would have him?

Before all the crap?

I wouldn't, he's vastly overrated because he's a silky flair player. He's probably good enough to play wide in a 4-3-3 but in any other formation I just can't see his use. He's no where near the top strikers in the league, he's not even in the top ten forwards.

Lucas just runs about kicking people. Totally overrated.

Think half the Cl teams would take Suarez, cnut or not.

Where this admiration of Lucas Leiva come from?

Little better than an average midfield player.

90% of their squad is better than ours, didn't you guys hear? So we should try and swap ALL our players!

We can sign Kuyt as the new, younger, Park.

Seriously though, I'd take a punt on Enrique to cover for Evra (assuming Fabio is out on loan) and I'd have Lucas - if SAF isn't going to sign any other midfielders.

He'd be decent cover for Carrick, which we definitely can do with.

At last somebody talking sense.

Woodwork + FA/Fergie conspiracy = 37 point gap.

I disagree. There aren't many strikers in the league with an all round game as good as his in the PL. I can think of Van Persie, Rooney and probably Cisse only who are better. Maybe an in form Adebayor but even that's debatable.

Oh he's definitely improved. He's a decent player. Same with Fletch.

Players I'd take at United:

Enrique - Solid left back, would be good cover for Evra
Sterling - looks a good prospect
Gerrard - Michael Owen coming here pissed them off, imagine RAWK if Gerrard did the same.

Enrique is shite. I'd have Suarez, if he wasn't such a massive cnut and Agger if he was capable of staying fit for the whole season.

He's like Barry in the sense that he doesn't really stand out, and you have to pay close attention to him to notice his worth (probably why I don't rate Barry really).

If you look at his stats and records this season, it shows how good he is and how much Liverpool missed him. I'm not sure if the record still stands, but a few weeks ago, he'd made more tackles than any other Liverpool player. He'd missed over half the season. Everyone talks about their post-christmas demise, which Lucas played none of. Before his injury, Liverpool were three points off fourth, they finished 17 points off fourth. He also got their player of the season in 2011.

He's certainly not a flashy player, but he's certainly not average either.

According to Mundo Deportivo Agger is close to signing for Barcelona for € 15 million + € 5 million incentives. Agger not participating in Liverpool's friendly against Spurs, despite not having any injury, is seen as an indicator that a deal is close. Says MD.

No idea what this is all about all of a sudden.

Seems a strange bit of business for Liverpool - Agger would fit Rodgers' bill quite nicely.

He would also fit in quite nicely at Barca I'd imagine, although they wouldn't need him desperately..

They've been on the hunt for a CB, though I thought Vermaelen was their first choice?

Vermaelen would be great at a club like Barca. Koscielny too I'd imagine.

Come to think of it, with Puyol ageing, Pique having an indifferent season, and Abidal out they could use a CB.

Copied from RAWK:

From an interview with Skrtl in the Slovak press:-

Reporter:Rodgers said in media that he had a very good feeling after talking to you, how you want to fight for LFC and that he counts on you at CB with Agger. It sounds nice, doesn´t?
MS: Well it is always nice to hear the manager giving you praise. We´ll see how it continues

Reporter:Your agent Karol Csonto said in italian radio "that for now you stay a LFC player". Can you please explain it to us?
MS:I am a Liverpool player for now because I have a valid contract. I have more offers, but without the clubs approval it can not move. We started new contract talks, but they didn´t progress. I am a LFC player, but in football you never know what happens. I have a valid contract and what should happen will happen

Also rumours about Manchester City and Real Madrid interests.

Makes sense, I guess. Liverpool won't get into the top 4 ahead of United, City, Arsenal and Chelsea in Agger's life time anymore and he has only 2 years left on his contract. Should be easy to get him.

Evans could become a target if Rossell reads the caf. :smirk:

That's actually not a bad shout. He would be a fine CB for Barca, his strength is carrying the ball out of defence and his distribution.

Also, he wouldn't need to do much actual defending, almost eliminating his biggest weakness, his lapses in concentration.

Agger and Skrtel as the CB pairing could have been good for Liverpool. And, even Skrtel won't give assurances on his future.

Not looking good for Liverpool. I can't see them getting the top four next season.

Makes kind of sense that they'd be in for Agger. They could also use him as an Abidal sort of cover at left back if needed. He's a decent player and a ball playing center back. Good enough defender for their needs.

You make it sound like he's Titus Bramble, or something. He was our best defender last season.

I'm not quite sure how arguing he would fit in nicely in the best club side in modern times and possibly of all time is a slight on Jonny Evans, man. I count myself one of if not his sternest supporter on the Caf. And I agree he was our best defender last season, although he still got slated by the Caf faithful.

Agger is a very good defender, think he would thrive at Barca. They definitely need at centre back, even though Mascherano always does well, he is not a natural defender. Busquets is worse though, he doesn't suit the postion at all.

Liverpools better players(not that they have many) cant really hang around in the hope of CL returning. They have already missed out on the last two seasons in the competition that all the top players want to be in. A player like Agger would be insane not to instigate a move to barca if he knew they wanted him. This would be his third season out of the CL. Its a long time.

I thought Rodgers was supposed to be getting rid of dead wood like Carroll not the better players like Aquilani and Agger?
