    Fernandes - Mainoo

Can we ask for Amrabat back for one game?

United winning will be the biggest shock in Premier League history.

In fact, a United draw would be a shock as well.

I'll go even further and say only a 1-0 win for Liverpool would be a shock.

The match everyone here is dreading to watch. Man Utd need a miracle to even secure a draw.

I hope our situation compared to theirs is extra motivation to our players to put everything into the game to get a result.

I'm sure the boss will fire up the players for this one and they'll look to respond after last week. Get points off the scouse and dent their title hopes.

Won't be the biggest shock in PL history but most will likely agree it will be shock if Liverpool don't win and win comfortably but still mad to think in this fixture last season (December 2023) United earned a draw and held Liverpool scoreless in Anfield. After that (4 months later ) United would knock Liverpool out of the FA Cup.

I don't for one moment believe we can get anything from this game. It's impossible for Livepool to lose this. It's impossible for any Liverpool player to be injured or sent off (especially not Salah). Not looking forward to this at all.

Think we'll have a valiant defeat where it's a 1 or 2-0 like against Arsenal that we don't concede many chances but don't threaten much ourselves.

    Onana
    Yoro De Ligt Martinez
    Dalot Mainoo Ugarte Mazraoui
    Amad Bruno
    Hojlund

I think the last couple of games will have spooked Amorim and he'll go ultra conservative for this one. I see Maguire starting over Yoro, and Maz & Dalot in the WB positions again.

    Onana

    De Ligt
    Maguire
    Martinez

    Mazraoui
    Ugarte
    Mainoo
    Dalot

    Amad
    Bruno
    Hojlund

The team I'd like* to see him put out would be:

    Onana

    Mazraoui
    De Ligt
    Yoro

    Amad
    Ugarte
    Casemiro
    Martinez

    Antony
    Mainoo
    Hojlund

    * when I say "like", even looking at the team I've picked, that's the very best of the options available and it's absolute shite!

Yes I know he's shit but Antony & Amad seem to link up well down the right side whenever they're paired together.

I'd move Martinez away from the LCB position where he's been a liability and play him LWB instead of Dalot. I know it's never gonna happen especially in a big game like this.

I'd move Maz back to RCB where he started the season so well for us, the WB role has really stalled his season.

I'd only play one of De Ligt or Maguire as the central defender, I think both of them are too slow to play together.

I'd reluctantly start Casemiro alongside Ugarte in midfield (and Mainoo in one of the 10s instead of Antony) as that's when Cas has played his best football this season. I say reluctantly as he was so bad against Newcastle (and against the Scousers in OT) but hoping playing beside Ugarte will lift his game.

I really don't want to play Bruno as a 10 on the left as all he did against Wolves was lose the ball and then give away stupid free kicks. I thought the position would suit him but apparently not. But of course he's never gonna get dropped.

And no other option but Hojlund up front.

    God it's shit.

There’s maybe 1-2 teams in the world right now that can go to there and get a result, if any. Certainly not us in current situation. Damage control to avoid humiliation.

Try to give away as little corners as possible or VVD will bang an hat trick past us

And there’s only 1 team this season that’s done so and stopped them scoring. And that’s forest

Bin the two full backs as wing backs idea

    Hojlund
    Bruno Amad
    Dalot Ugarte Mainoo Antony
    Yoro De Ligt Mazraoui
    Onana

Never seen so much pessimism in one thread. Really sad to see what has this great club become.

Would go with this before most of the lineups I've seen in here so far. Although I do worry for Yoro as he'll never in his life experienced such a hostile and frenetic game combined with gallows atmosphere. I think I'd actually go Maguire LCB over him.

The amount of people putting Martinez in, despite him really struggling for form at the moment is quite something.

We're really up against it no matter what combination of players go out there; I expect a defeat (d'uh!), but it would be good for us if it's not a mauling, and I think that unit stands the best chance of keeping the score as respectable as can be expected, which is probably a 2 or 3-0.

Biggest concern is the collective head dropping as well as the frustration sending off(s) that could result in an even worse defeat than the you know what under ETH.

I would bring Rashford back and put Amad back at RWB.

    Hojlund
    Rashford Bruno
    Maz Maino Ugarte Amad
    Martinez De Ligt Yoro
    Onana

This team should have enough about them to at least ask questions and keep the ball for a while. Set pieces is a worry with this team. Specially as their team is littered with Giants. Hopefully we keep it to a minimum. I would go with 2-1 Utd.

    Onana
Mazraoui - De Ligt - Yoro
    Amad - Ugarte - Mainoo - Bruno - Dalot
    Hojlund - Garnacho

    3-5-2

I can't compose a lineup I'm happy with, even relatively speaking. Because there isn't one. Bruno's and Mount's absence means Amad has to play at #10 and not at RWB, and he's got to play with Zirkzee, Garnacho or Rashford, all of whom I'd dearly like not to see. This in turn means Mazraoui has to play RWB rather RCB, which if he deals with Diaz the same way he did with Gordon is not going to be good, is it.

I'm almost wondering if it would be better with Antony. Not least because that would enable Mazraoui to move back to RCB. He's looked much better there than on RWB, and also it was when he moved out of the back three that we really started to unravel defensively.

Half of the squad mentalny checked-out.
5:0 (HT), final score depends on what Liverpool want to do

I'll be watching for the same reason I seek out really shit low budget horror films. It'll be a good laugh

This could be a turning point. We proved that with Mainoo in the middle against Newcastle we could shut up shop and look fine defensively. If Ugarte and Bruno come back in and play a blinder we could sneak at least a point or a win against the run of play. Can’t see us get battered like ETH did time after time.

Martinez in midfield alongside Ugarte would precipitate a back three of Yoro, de Ligt and Maz. Those three would be the paciest.

Licha starting in a back three would see him targeted at corners and set-pieces and given our chronic inability to maintain possession, we should be seeing quite a few of those.

Forward is the premier problem. I'm going for Rashford, with Bruno and Mainoo in behind. Marcus is likely going nowhere and we need, crave, pace up front and his finishing, though as erratic as the alternative, is possibly the best.

Really cannot see anything past a serious beating, here, no matter who we play. The ability is there but the mentality is as wholly absent as it has been post-Ferguson.

    The line-up:

    Onana

    Yoro
    de Ligt
    Maz

    Garna/Antony (LWB)
    Licha
    Ugarte
    Amad (RWB)

    Mainoo
    Bruno

    Rashford

    My predicted line-up:

Onana, Maguire, de Ligt, Licha, Dalot, Maz, Case, Ugarte, Bruno, Garna, Hojlund

    Liverpool 6 United 0

No shots on target or serious chances. At least two goals from set-pieces and a Salah hat-trick.

    Hope I'm wrong.

Not watching it. I'm going for a long walk and will check Livescore at 18:30. I can't stomach any more humiliations against them.

To be honest even if we were in a bit of decent form right now I still wouldn't expect a result from this. It's anfield after all. Just get the game over with and move on to the next.

After dropping points against all the teams we should have picked up against, I would not be surprised if we get something here. I also would not be surprised if we get smashed.

What I will say is this match seems perfectly set up for Bruno to do something stupid and get sent off

You should look at the thread before the 0-0 last season. It was exactly the same. And before the FA cup final. If anything, deeply pessimistic threads seem to bode well for us.

The players shouldn't need to be fired up. They should do that themselves.

But we will need a lot more than just being fired up.
We will need to be extremely well organised and disciplined and not make any silly mistakes.

Amorim could do some damage limitation and set us up not to get slaughtered, but I’m sure he won’t.
Some of our problems I reckon have come from being too defensive. In the Newcastle game we had three CD within the width of the 6 yard box and Isak still scored - sometimes it feels like a given defender is not taking ownership of situations because they know there is another defender near them.

Also, we were playing too compact in that game and Maz kept coming too central. As such he was unable to stop crosses coming in.

Without a proper goal threat however, teams feel like they can commit more players forward with little risk. That’s something more difficult to fix.

Can`t afford to play Martinez against Salah. Need Yoro and de Ligt on that side. Maz can slot in at rcb instead.
Should probably try someone else at lwb as well but we are desperately short on good options. Dalot might have to do even if i would be tempted to play Garnacho there to try to boost our attack instead. Something has to change in our attack, we can barely create a decent chance anymore.

This lineup is what I would like and is probably our best lineup at the moment.

    Onana
    De Ligt- Maguire - Yoro
Antony- Ugarte - Mainoo - Maz
    Amad - Bruno
    Hojlund

What I think we will get is this lineup - with the current Maz/Dalot setup, and with Licha, which is going to get us tonked by an ungodly amount with no attacking threat of our own.

    Onana
    De Ligt- Maguire - Martinez
    Maz - Ugarte - Mainoo - Dalot
    Amad - Bruno
    Hojlund

It's honestly so bizarre to me that everyone's forgot that the run under Ruud, Maz played LB and did a stunningly better job there than Dalot. I appreciate the club's institutional memory is shit, but surely some fecker could remember that and suggest it's worth trying to Amorim.
