Liverpool 2024-25 | Inevitably winning the quadruple

Our worst defeat in terms of scoreline that I can remember was a 4-0 loss at Old Trafford in 02/03. Hyypia was sent off 5 minutes in.

You never rocked up to Anfield and thumped us though.

We did not. Our best Anfield performance I can remember was during Van Gaal's 1st season, but that was still only a 2-1 win.

Basically everything has gone against both City and Arsenal this season and everything has gone for Liverpool. It is what it is.

I think Slot deserves a huge amount of credit but IMO they are not at the level of Klopp's top sides, they are just a very good side that has kept almost its entire contingent of field players reasonably healthy while catching a bunch of other breaks. They caught Arsenal without Odegaard or Saliba and were still outplayed until Gabriel got sent off, caught City at their absolute nadir and of course with huge injury issues, caught Spurs missing four of their starting back five, Chelsea was also missing two of their starting backline against them, the match at Goodison came at a point when Everton was hitting some form and would have been very tough under the weather conditions but it got postponed, etc.

You still have to win the games and they are doing it in style so I would not put any asterisks next to a title. But its a reminder that in normal times (ie, without Pep's peak City around setting crazy standards) winning the title is mainly about being one of the 2-3 best sides on paper and then just having the best luck among that group in terms of keeping your side healthy and catching other breaks over the course of the season.
That may be true, but they had to compete with Pep's City at their strongest to be fair. 2 times lost the league after going above 90 pts. to City, so I guess this year it evens out that there are no great opponents (for now).

Exactly. Even when Liverpool were shit they gave us a good game. We’ve just rolled over.

That's true. I was thinking that in 2021/2022 when Liverpool won 5-0 at Old Trafford and 4-0 at Anfield, that previously poor Liverpool teams gave far superior Man Utd teams under Fergie much tougher games than that.

But at least when Man Utd were in the ascendary, they racked up league titles for fun, and only finished behind Liverpool once in the league between 1991/1992 and 2012/2013 inclusive (2001/2002 under Houllier / Thompson).

If Liverpool win the title this season, they'll still 'only' have won 2 more titles than far inferior Man Utd teams in recent years. They'll have won the same number of league titles in 35 years, as Man Utd did during Fergie's last 3 years with weak midfield options for their high standards during that period.

I read that throughout the 80s Liverpool only beat Man Utd in the league twice, despite clearly being far superior during the decade, which was pretty crazy.

Were they not robbed of 2 prem titles? How can we not take peps title wins seriously because of cheating, while also pretending lfc were not robbed. Then there is their ucl win which you purposely left out.By twisting things we gain nothing and we just look like a more desperate and sad fanbase, with each passing season.

‘They’ again. Your posting history is hilarious, why not just admit you support them?

That's fair. Those sides that lost narrowly to City were both incredible teams, in my view far stronger than this year's Liverpool. Football is weird and there is a lot of luck involved.

I think Liverpool this year will end up very similar to 2012-13 United - a very good but not great side that walks the league partly due to performing well, especially with a forward who can't stop scoring, and partly due to all main rivals having a down year.

‘He’ supports Blackburn.

‘You’ support Liverpool.

With every passing season why do you look a sad and desperate fanbase?

Don't think they'll win the quadruple. But they look on course to do the double - the PL and CL. They are a well run club and sign top notch players.
