Lot closer. If Barca and Real finish 1st and 2nd, doesn't mean one is Bayern and other is Dortmund level.

Liverpool are favourites to finish second but also favourites among those who could potentially upset City. And they are so due to their lavish spending as opposed to the likes of Dortmund.
It's definitely a lot closer yes, as indicated by the 20+ point gap last year...

And there's no point in comparing today's spending (especially by an English team) to that of six years ago.

Any new info on the Buvac situation? Is he still considered an employee on leave?

 Lovren, ffs.

All our rivals have won so far, and while they've all had easier games than us, that's no excuse, and we should see tomorrow through. Arsenal/City though

He's still listed as a club employee, but seems to have been replaced in the coaching setup by returning coach Pep Ljinders.
Klopp was asked about it pretty recently and has really said anything new. private matter e.t.c

Thanks for the info.

I hate it when the expectations are high. I’m so used to seeing us fall apart in these situations, but we don’t have any excuses tomorrow.

Be interesting to see what Klopp does if Gomez and Matip are out. Phillips might get the nod but there’s also the temptation to stick Fabinho at CB for a game.

I imagine Arnautovic is going to sit on whoever is partnering van Dijk.

Well you're playing West Ham at home and with new players to adjust, not really that much better than Leicester and Huddersfield away is probably just as tough. Given Liverpool's pre-season form should be an easy win.

Not gonna lie, I thought the first game was away  Shows how much attention I pay.

We should win yeah.

Totally agree with you, Liverpool should win and comfortably at that. Something in the region of 5-0 would be acceptable given the hype surrounding your club.

Feel sorry for poor West Ham having to cross swords with perhaps the greatest club side in the modern game.

Leicester and Newcastle finished above West Ham last season and Man City play Arsenal, so only Chelsea as one of the big six have 'perhaps' played an easier game than you out of all the top six, not forgetting you are playing at home. You lot can be so unbearable it's ridiculous!

Like I said, I forgot we're playing at home  I thought we were away to a team that's probably improved this summer more than any other in the league. West Ham have recruited well & going away to them is hard - But we're not, so it's probably not a harder game after all.

It's my bad.

Saying a team recruited well means nothing before a ball is kicked. The new players have to adapt to playing with each other etc, which can be seen as an advantage over playing a team that has had less upheaval.

While you're here Mo, have us playing expansive footy or get out!

First game of the season. I'd happily settle for a stuffy 2-1 win. The 5-0 stuff can come when the team's hopefully gotten into their stride.

Well, here we are! New season. Our signings have been good on paper, and this looks like a good squad.

I've been scarred enough though, to expect a 1-1 draw.

Naby Keita will be an excellent signing. He can do a bit of everything. Really like his ability to burst forward with the ball.

Sturridge at his best is a better player than Firmino. The brazilian is not good enough to play at a club of Liverpool's size. Other than that, their squad looks really able to challenge City.

The football aside , they've got real depth in their squad. That is the scariest part. I expect a strong title challenge .

wtf are you on about. Firmino was the second best centre forward in the league last season.

Disagree with that. Firmino offers so much more and he scores goals.

My opinion is that they look pretty much identical to last season.

I think a better side than west ham would get goals against that defence especially with their midfield seemingly playing even higher up than before.

They aren't better than city and the only question for me is whether they can move above united into 2nd. Not convinced they will but then again I'm a united fan and would say that!

Proper match going red then haha

I’d say Kane, Lukaku, Aguero then Firmino unless I’m missing someone? Not sure after that but I’d count Salah as a winger.
Centre-forward was my term of choice.

If you're going for striker, Salah is more that than firmino is, imo.

No one wants to say it because it’s liverpool but Klopp is the perfect Utd manager and this liverpool team plays magnificent football. I think they will be better than last season and will be in for a real title challenge. The worst thing is their squad had been miles behind ours for years and while I still think ours is better on paper, there’s is better in reality and the gap in quality is only decreasing.

He clearly is good enough... did you not watch him play?

I wouldn't begrudge them if they won it either. Their team plays good football and is miles more likeable than I can remember it being at any other point in my lifetime. No unlikable rogues like Redknapp, Fowler, Owen (I know), Benitez, Suarez, Gerrard, Carragher, Dalglish. Klopp can be a clown but that's about it.

Obviously I don't want them to win it but I'm Anybody But City at this point.

I have but I find Mane and Salah to be more influential. Feel like Sturridge would offer something different, it's all about style preference really

Liverpool look excellent.

The only reason their not favourites to win the league is a City side looking untouchable.

Oh boy! Gutsy move (if you are a United fan). You are going to get slaughtered.

Oh god no! I’d rather city take home the next 10 league titles than Liverpool grab another, that will be a dark, dark day for any Man Utd supporter. The issue is they appear to be getting closer!

Never hid the fact that I'm more of a casual fan nowadays :D Never seen football as something to get really emotionally invested in like so many others do. But I do enjoy watching & talking about it, and this forum is one of the best places for that.
