I have finally decided to join the forum here after being on the periphery for a lot of time. How do you see we lining up for the biggest game of the season as billed by Sky Sports.

will we go for a workhorse midfield or a more creative midfield and also will we choose a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1 approach?

I think for the Mane incident, does the Ref saying he noticed it and not taken action count? As I was always under the notion that only things that the ref missed will be considered. What was the Micheal Oliver's match report say about the incident. I just hope he keeps his cool as of all the players we have on the pitch, he is the most combustible and people will target him for that.

I feel we have to go for,

Allison
TAA-Lovren-VVD- Robbo
Wijnaldum - Fabinho - Henderson
Salah - Firmino - Mane

Shaqiri will make us more open so does Keita, I think Keita is taking more time to adjust to the premier league and that is concerning.

I hope we have tonnes of Luck at the Etihad :D

And a Happy New Year to All folks in here.

Happy New Year. I think if Milner is healthy he comes in for Fabinho

Their weakest two areas for some years was cental defense and a GK. That was addressed. He also brought 3 midielders.the team now has more depth..Their attack is great but not sure about backup players of sturridge..lalana and origi..if they stepup and help they can win the premiere league.

That's quite a few teams you support.

It will be a small price to pay for for the inevitable thread a Liverpool fan will commence on Redcafe about "Retaining the league title"

Doubtful!!! PSG, (City?), Bayern, Madrid, (Juve?), Barça are going to dismantle Liverpool (18/19 Champions) in summer 2019 :)

Happy new year one and all and have a lovely 2019!

With Messi's help, I most likely will!

That's quite a few teams you support.

Well, I come from India and here it is all Cricket due to the British legacy, and I also use to play it seriously at school level too and wanted to pursue the game professionally. But then 2001 Happened and the 5-4 win over Alaves made me a football fan and over years I stopped following Cricket all together and follow Football.

India is in Australia and is on the verge of a possible series win but I least care about what Virat Kohli does and am more interested in what is the health of Liverpool players and how the opposition is doing.

Given I am from a Neutral country, I follow multiple leagues and in general like attacking football or the teams i fell in love with.

So, I like Del Piero's Juve but not this one horse race one, Napoli, Roma, Fiorentina, Udinese all were good at one point, Dortmund, Wolfsburg too, that period with Grafite, Dzeko when Bayern did not have a sniff at the title for 3-4 years,

I love 2 teams mostly, LFC and FCB, ACM now has become hapless thanks to Berlusconi and his mismanagement if we call it.

Spain I fell in love in 2002 with the Valencia core, Albelda, Valeron, Vicente along with Baraja, Mendieta, Joaquin etc. Like they say, Spain has Pain in it and I was always crying at the world cups. This time too in Russia I had match tickets of Spain, Brazil, Argentina along with Senegal - Colombia. All the teams I support made me cry.

Football is a religion for me now, I just hope people around me accept my Religion as well as my Piety :D

I might end up in Liverpool in May if we are in a position to win it all too, trying my best to get hands on something for the Wolves game, even if it takes LFC Membership and Touts too :D

In your dreams; dismantle like Barca did when 'our best player' Coutinho left recently?
PSG are an oil/state sponsored parody of a football club & no truly ambitious player goes there - top level players only move there for money or those that have a massive ego; Neymar = perfect example?
City, perhaps but they can buy what they want from where they want and lowering themselves to LFC players doesn't seem their style (Sterling aside & they bought him from a very different Liverpool side) plus see PSG example above?
Bayern squad is too old & they need to rebuild from scratch, just as SAF would do cyclicly, one or two of our squad isn't going to make much of a dent to them right now?
Juve's scouts already do the old lady proud with similar under the radar signings and playing/buying to a predetermined style?

But the biggest factor is that the current Liverpool squad plays under a specific coaching & playing system that the current squad appears to thrive from. Over the hill & untested players have both been totally transformed.

So who are those giants going to aim for?
Salah; already played for Chelsea & Roma, what does he have now that they didn't see before?
VVD/Allison (maybe two teams in the list have the money but still need the pull to make the player move)?
Firminho, South American; possible that he may be swayed, @ massive cost?
Andy Robertson; relegated LB less than two seasons ago?

Who else, is going to be involved in this demolition exactly?

Your header speaks volumes: "Supports FC Barca & Manchester Utd" Wow, support one team pal, it's ok to have a soft spot for one or maybe two others. Did it skip between Chelsea & Real Madrid & City in recent years, maybe Liverpool at some future stage - god forbid.

I support Liverpool, have a (tiny) soft spot for West Ham because of family connections. I hate (& hugely respect) Man Utd because for so long they have have been our fiercest rivals both locally & in success.
Real & Barca are one & the same - both anti football both pro $$$!!

Take a deep breath and relax.

The demolition will happen. Face it. Not the entire Starting XI champions squad, but at least 3 key players (not necessarily Salah) that will make hard-next to impossible- to win 2 PL in a row, specially if Chelsea or and City invest, with Pepus still in command.

Oh, and I've been supporting Man Utd. since 1993. I still own the shirt:

That reminds me of a mate of mine when we went watching Wigan Warriors play our rivals St Helens away.
He bought two Pimbletts pies (famous and now out of business St Helens bakery known for their meat and spud pies) then made a big show of throwing them in the bin outside the shop.

Interesting debate. Personally I think exits of key players are inevitable sooner or later. But since Klopp Liverpool has accomplished a much, much better position to hold the squad together.

Not too long ago, I'd have them on the same level as Arsenal. The top dogs of the league (City, United and Chelsea) as well as the top dogs of other leagues (Bayern, PSG, Barca, Madrid, Juventus) were all able to steal players from them. Now I think only Madrid, Barca and maybe PSG and City can do that - the chances of the latter will increase if they prove to be a real CL contender anytime soon.

What's also very intersting about this Liverpool side is that Klopp makes them overachieve. Quality-wise, they aren't nearly as good as their results. If I look at City, I see numerous players who would directly make it into every current starting eleven. I can only say that for very few Liverpool players, namely Salah and van Dijk. The rest are very, very good players but not "Galactico" level. What also should be considered: From the Madrid team that won all these trophies in the last five years, Modric was the oldest signing aged 26. VVD and Salah are actually already to old to be a Florentino Perez signing. Also, I have the impression that Salah has a very loyal character. Currently, I don't find it impossible that he stays at Liverpool, even if Madrid comes calling.

And if we now align that with the vacancies Barca, PSG and Madrid currently have, I can only think of very few possible signings. Barca exemplarily won't go for Salah because he is effectively a lesser version of Messi and operates in the same spaces. VVD could go anywhere but I think Barca would be the most likely destination since it would be very unlikely for Madrid to break the bank for a then 28 year old player. Additionally, it is possible that Firmino goes to Barca in order to replace Suarez since he would be the perfect substitute for him and link up very well with Messi.

Other than that, I don't really see that a club with enough prestige and money to buy out Liverpool players could really be interested in signing one. I can hardly imagine that Madrid e.g. go for someone like Mane or Firmino instead of, say, Hazard or Dybala. They would be plan Bs at best and the thing is with clubs like Real, they very rarely need to rely on their alternative plan.

Won't happen until 2020 because of the much laughed at contract we made Barca sign as part of the Coutinho deal, i.e. they can't sign any of our players until then. Except Moreno I hope.

No doubt the club has become a destination once more. Rather than players leaving Liverpool, I can see us continually looking for improvement and upgrades. Bringing in players of the ilk of Sancho/Dembele/Icardi to compete with the front 3 etc is very plausible. There isn't a more attractive destination for top young talents in England.

Very true. I was asked the same by few of my friends, I said - I kind have started to hate Barca for their handling of transfers especially with Liverpool. Suarez, Mascherano, Coutinho - all of them, they played their South American card and started tapping in using their players which was very unprofessional at the very least and disgraceful to the core.

I now like Barcelona for Messi and Suarez, once they retire, I might give them a miss all together for the way they treated Liverpool FC as a club and undermined them.

Klopp made me a Believer again, I really like his humor and his aggression.

The biggest worry for me is not any player contract extension but Klopp extending his contract beyond 2022 and staying with us forever. I just love this guy and he spreads positivity around so much.

Klopp will ensure no big player leaves us for sure, and if it is, it will be at a price he deems fit enough and will find adequate replacement. Moreover we are a club now looked with positivity and player development in our ethos.

I just see us getting few key transfers over the line this time, I like Malcom/Dembele/Rabiot/Fekir - I think we will go in for Fekir for sure, his stock has gone down this year at Lyon, he played well in the UCL tie against City, but has been not so great this year. I like Malcom more than Dembele and Pulisic too.

I think Harry Wilson will come good for us, what he doing at Derby is great. Ryan Kent looks good but he might not make the cut here, better to leave him at Rangers itself.

They can sign our players but once a fee has been agreed, an extra £100m is added onto it.

We won't go back in for Fekir. His knee issues are a problem and we won't spend money on a player that we have fitness concerns over.

Hopefully they agree a £25m deal for Moreno making it £125m overall

Screw that. I hope for Moreno we have a deal in place that whomever takes him for any amount of money we'll pay them £25m instead. Even when he's out of contract, just in case!! :wenger: :D

Klopp won’t stay forever, I think his style will burn out, and once he’s “found out”, I don’t think he’s got much flexibility. I’d give him another 2 years.

BUT....

Even as a Manchester United fan, I have to admit that Liverpool have been brilliantly run and managed the last 3 years. They play beautiful football, and are a force of nature. Largely likable squad too.

Pretty much the only thing I dislike about Liverpool these days is their fan base. Which has to be amongst the most obnoxious in world football.

He's adapted our style due to being 'found out'. If you watch our matches this season, we're a lot more conservative with our play and even off the ball, we don't press like mad as we did last season. It's a lot more sustainable and has shown with our 8 wins from 8 in December. Hopefully it continues in a similar vein.

As for the obnoxious part... Don't all fan bases have obnoxious fans? I know a few Spurs, City and Utd fans and they are awful

I just think it’s the nature of modern football. Cycles are much shorter. Managers don’t really stick around that long. Klopp usually seems to peak and then implode or move on. And I would expect the same here. But I would enjoy the ride while it continues. Things change alarmingly fast in football.

And of course all fans have wankers. But Liverpool fans are almost universally awful. I think it’s this whole chip on their shoulders of being such a big club, but barely winning anything for 30 years. It’s made them shockingly bitter. Maybe a few years of success will balance it out.

I just find when Liverpool are within a sniff of getting successful again all of sudden their fans get cocky and start football ‘banter’. Everyone knows I’m a United in our office for example and now Liverpool are doing well I’m constantly reminded they will win the league this season. I would never say stuff like that when we were regularly winning the title every season, you waited until it was mathematically done.

What would you guys choose :

A. Man United finish 5th, Win the Champions League(beating City in the semis) && Pool win the title and the FA cup
B. Man United finish 4th, Win FA Cup, loss to PSG && Pool loose title on final game, loose CL final to PSG

That's just confirmation bias, Simon. You see what you want to see. The Liverpool posters on here seem to be a fairly sound bunch. I wouldn't base opinions on social media. No good will ever come of that.

That's not to say we don't have our share of morons. We obviously do. Just like every club.

Why that über-creep Nakrani would choose today, hours before a big away game knowing Wijnaldum’s penchant for going AWOL in such games, is beyond me but anyway, here we are.

Why do Liverpool fans overrate and exaggerate every single one of their players? It’s mindblowing.

Yeah United fans would never say Smalling/Bailey are better than VVD, or compare Rashford with Mbappe or claim Luke Shaw is one of the best young fullbacks or claim Herrera was better than Kante would they?

Wijnaldum has been very good this season our best midfielder and his performances have gone under the radar hence the article i assume

How is he overrating him? He’s been the most important cm for a team that’s leading the league by seven points.

Gonna be tricky for wini tonight. Hopefully his big game juju will cancel out his away game voodoo.

"Put simply, without Wijnaldum there would be no unbeaten run, no string of clean sheets and no stream of goals for the current pace-setters."

Are you honestly agreeing with this statement that claims, without Wijnaldum, Liverpool wouldn't have any run of clean sheets or "stream of goals"? Is he actually single-handedly stopping the entire team from falling apart and you have nobody that could do a remotely competent job of replacing him if he got injured?

Wijnaldum is overrated. Never played a good match for the Dutch NT in his life. Loads of better midfielders out there.

Maybe because your whole NT has been wank the past few years bar last one.

Ridiculous as well to judge him on some performances with a bunch of dudes he hardly gets to train or play with instead of his regular superb performances this season (the first season in which he has gotten some recognition and rightfully so, so even now it's ridiculous to call him overrated).

I don’t know how many goals we’d score or let in without him, but he’s been absolutely vital both defensively and offensively.

Jesus Christ, there are literally loads of them here.

They are multiplying like rabbits. With every Liverpool victory comes a new account and you can bet your arse hair that it's a Liverpool fan.

Not content with stealing our league title, they want our forum too. It's just not on.
