Liverpool - 2017/18

Midfield is good enough. hendo, wiji, can, milner are not just average. All 4 are good on the ball, good at passing, tackling, positional awareness you name it. they may not be extra ordinary but certainly good enough, they do the job asked by the manager, and its not like they are total knob in attack and vision. These are central midfielders if anyone is expecting them to play like coutinho or hazard then thats not their fault. Im not saying they are world beaters but you look at aresnal team today and they are dying for strong midfielders. Even one of the pundits on the show said people are over looking these players. when your team scores 13 goals in 4 games these players have to have some credit due, specially considering both the regular CAMs coutinho and lallana are out.
I was talking about the backup options in midfield. Main 3 are good. Milner is aging. The backup is Grujic and kids. This is poor.
Lallana wont be available next 3 months, and I think re-integrating Coutinho will take a month minimum, if it will happen at all. We will need to play cl/pl each 3 days. We can't play kids or likes of Grujic in either of those. We need one more CM of Wijnaldum's quality for those games.

I wouldn't worry to much about last game. Arsenal made them look better then they are playing to Liverpool strengths with high line and without hard work.

Simply they are very good on counter, we all knew that. The problem is when team sit back. And they will face teams sitting back week in week out. Also their defence is also a problem, Arsenal didn't even test it but I can see havong a problem against us, City, Chrlsea and Tottenham.

They're buzzing after beating a dead Arsenal side who basically said "Come at me" with their 3 defenders. You couldn't make it up.

You could make it up. Just like you can make up them beating City next and then losing to Burnley.

A number of them I spoke to still don't have any expectation of winning the league.

You mean like you were when you beat an even worse West Ham on the opening day?

Of course not, we know yesterday wasn't that representative and our defense still needs to be fixed.

Who's buzzing? And surely it's okay to be happy after beating Arsenal 4-0. You would too, I expect.

Buzzing? Liverpool were clear favorites whether arsenal turn up or not. its not like something really shocking has happened, specially for the pool fans. We know what we are capable of despite all the difficulties at the back.

it was a routine win.

Of course I am buzzing. It was a great win against a very good side. What's the point of football if you can't enjoy a good win.

Everyone's looking at our attack, but I was really impressed with Wijnaldum and Can. Can just completely bossed the midfield and Arsenal's players just couldn't get near Wijnaldum all day. I don't think there are many midfielders in the league harder to dispossess than Wijnaldum.

Fair enough, whenever you beat any team 4-0 of course you are excited. That is what fans want to see.

However, we haven't seen anything from Liverpool this year that we didn't see last year. We know that they are good against sides who have to come at them and try and beat them and we know that they are fast on the Counter.

We have also seem them concede 3 against a very average Watford side and only break down a very poor Palace side thanks to a late individual error.

You also have to factor in injuries. Last year at times we had 5 defenders missing at once. How would they cope? How would they cope if they lost, say Henderson and Wijnaldum at the same time? Because its very possible when you play 3 times a week for months on end

Yeah they were class all game long, agreed. Still think Can should play the ball faster on occasions, for example second half on the break he could've passed it deep to Salah instead of charging forward with the ball at his feet, but he was superb yesterday. We neeeed to sort out his contract situation, there's no point bringing in other midfielders if we can't keep our own.

Really feel like we can take all three points at the Etihad if everybody carries on like this after that fecking international break.

We're already missing two very influential players in Lallana and Coutinho and coping just fine. Of course if you add Wijnaldum and Henderson to that list - every team in the league would struggle without four (near-)first team midfielders.

I agree we could do with some additional squad depth though, that much is obvious. A better backup striker, midfielder and two defenders should do the trick.

Honestly fans need to get used to people taking credit away from the team after every trashing like this. It's been the same story last season "oh, it's not that your side was good, the other side had a bad day, nothing to do with your side forcing them into mistakes and punishing them lad", okay then. So let's get used to that, and carry on.

All in all it was an okay performance. I won't waste words on our attack, but I thought Can-Gini-Hendo were great. I do think however, that they'll play much worse when facing a team that parked the bus. I think these three have a tendency to hold onto the ball for no reason, especially Can, and don't always know how to play against defensive and physical sides. Klopp will probably rotate them regularly, but there's no real alternative to them I don't think. It's one thing overrunning Arsenal midfield that was defensively weak and wrongly positioned, facing a brick wall from teams like Burnley, WBA, Southampton, Man Utd, Brighton etc. is what will be our demise.

Obviously I'm not convinced on defenders, I thought Gomez was holding Welbeck's shirt during that missed opportunity in the first half, and we were lucky to get away with it. Moreno, who is "100% back now", attempted some reckless tackles and had he not missed, he'd get carded immediately and concede some really dangerous free kicks. And that was in a game where defenders really had very little to do. They weren't as shaky as with Minge in goal though, so that's a plus.

They'll be better when Coutinho and Lallana return. However, their negligence regarding their defense will prevent them from winning a trophy.

I know it's a fair point. If you start removing starting players from any teams XI it would be less than ideal.

Usually I think its a bit of a daft criticism of a team, however I do think though that you are lighter than your rivals in key areas and I think with the additional games this year it could be telling.

Okay, so according to the Twitter muppets we bid £55m for Thomas Lemar, a Renato Sanches loan deal is close and Naby Keita is in the UK apparently

We probably, realistically will end up with none of them but I'm going in head first into the last few days of the transfer window!

Vvd, keita and lemar would be a dream. Coutinho can do what he wants

I thought the scousers would win yesterday but not as convincing as it was. They absolutely battered Arsenal and I thought they looked very good for the whole game. Salah was top drawer and should have had more, Firmino was class too.

Their defence is still an issue but they'll be in and around top 4.

Why would they loan Sanches, if they can sign Keita? You must have fallen for a Big Sky Tweet.

Paul Joyce is saying on Twitter that Keita is agreed for next summer. He's having a medical at Liverpool today.

£48 million fee and he'll sign 1st July 2018.

Liverpool paid premium on top of 48 Million release clause is what Joyce reported.

I don't like bringing this up, but seems to me every year around this period, the club "bids" for a massive target, then fails, then comes out with "we tried" excuse.
Sort of a last tool of deception before the reality of our failings in the transfer window kicks in every time.

EDIT: Keita news is great. Makes me care less about Can not signing a new contract.

Great news if true. Too bad he isnt coming now, but failing that this is the right way to go. Been burned too many times on our "we are willing to wait for him" policy on Pulisic, Dahoud, etc.

Fantastic if true, but is it confirmed anywhere?

A medical today for a next summer switch? What if God forbid he does his ACL?
Ridiculous isn't it?! Such a huge risk.

Surely he will sign this summer?

Liverpool looking decent but their defence and GKs still stink so not worried by them at all.

A shame he only joins next year but get the feck in, what a signing!

Now Lemar + CB and I wish Coutinho all the happiness in the world at Barca.
