Liverpool 2016/17 - Performance and chat thread.

Shite, that's a HUGE blow for us :( Pretty much forced to play 433 with Cou/Fir/Mane ahead of Hendo/Can/Gini now. Can needs more performances like he did vs City for me to feel even the slightest bit confident going forward without arguably our best player this season.

Henderson not back training yet according to some on RAWK.

Lallana has put in huge performances over the season, will be a huge miss for you guys, good for our top 4 hopes.

That's a huge blow. One injury can impact us in a big way.

He'll probably miss Everton, Bournemouth, Stoke(a), West Brom(a) and Palace.

In a situation like this, it may be worth playing Coutinho in the middle which he has done effectivley before and then you can Origi, Firmino and Mane as your front 3

Coutinho has been stinking the place out for a while. He hasn't had a decent game since November.

I think he needs to play in the middle for this match. I imagine it will be Lucas holding mid with Can and Gini in front. Might be okay in terms of physicality but does lack creativity. Personally, if Emre can produce the a similar performance to the City match as a holding mid with Gini and Coutinho in front of him, I think that would be a better fit in terms of pressing and creating chances.

Oh feck off England .

Feck the international games.

Waste of fecking time just to watch a shite England team pass in front of the final third for 90mins.

Huge blow for us. Coutinho needs to step it up. He's had a few games now where he's been below par, but we need him back on form ASAP

Despite his poor form Coutinho is still the second most deadliest player in our team (after Mane). If he's off in the summer he'd better start putting in some shop window performances in the handful of games left.

I don't trust these coaches tbh, the exercises they are doing are pretty strange. Here's Lingard blasting a ball at Lallana's bollocks in 2:55.

Wow. Wtf are they gonna accomplish with these training sessions?

Edit:
Didn't realize that this was the Liverpool thread. Is there a different thread discussing these injuries and training methods?

Interestingly, at the end of the video with the piggy-in-the-middle drill, it arguably features the 'best' one-touch passers.

Training should be like that. More focus on touch and technique. The athleticism and physical stuff is always there.

What is it with these international games and injuries? Smalling, Lallana.. wonder what they do there..

Maybe England's training methods. I read somewhere Hodgson I think it was use to get them to do these stop and start sprints. In the article I read this was blamed for Sturridge always getting injured and other players.

This is all I could find. Four times in 18 months he was injured when with England.

Worrying about Mane. Seems like it could rule him out for the rest of the season. Can missed training today and Lallana/Henderson are also out.

He's out for the Bournemouth game and Stoke on the Sat, hopefully he'll be ok then and Can is fine.

Well everyone knew squad depth was an issue.

What I'm wondering is how many signings do Liverpool supporters expect to make this summer? Given you should likely be in Europe one way or another.

What the F?

Didn't they make a profit on transfers in the Summer? Is this something to do with their stadium expansion being accounted for in one period or something?
I'm guessing it's wages. Weren't there other articles suggesting Liverpool's wage spend had ballooned and they were now sitting higher up the wage spend table than their turnover would suggest?

TBF though Danny could pull a hamstring walking up the steps to board the plane.

I'd say we need a keeper, a CB, a LB, a midfielder, a striker and another pacey wide option to offer an alternative to Mane.

I don't know how much we'll have to spend but I think those are the areas we need to look at. The striker will need to be one that can manage around 20 league goals, and all of these signings should add quality to the side instead of just being there to make up the numbers.

Its crazy what our board and/or Klopp is thinking. Its obviously a money saving scheme (new stand, etc) as we needed cover in January! If Klopp didn't think it was the right time (or have the right players available) then, then what chance does he have of getting suitable numbers in the summer?

I estimate we need about 6-8 players to cover for all league, Europe and cup games. They don't all have to be Mane's quality but they still have to be of use straight away, i.e. not future prospects. A fair value per player will be £20m. So that's a total of £120-£160m. And then wages on top. I know we're on net positive balance but that's still a hell of a lot of money to burn in one go.

Jamie Carragher said Liverpool have the sixth best team in the league and top 4 would be a very good achievement for them. Do you guys agree?

Without reading it, we're 5th/6th for sure. There's no denying United have the better squad, as do Spurs/City/Chelsea. Don't think we're too far from Arsenal - We've a lot of average-good players with a few stars. 4th would be a good achievement, but we shouldn't exaggerate how good an achievement it would be, considering how poor United have been & how few fixtures we've had compared to our top 4 rivals.

Coming from a neutral, I think you guys play really well as a team but you need a couple of big names to look to when things get tough, i.e. a Gerrard and Torres or Gerrard and Suarez etc.

On a separate note, also have to say, I loved that 08/09 midfield of Mascherano, Alonso and Gerrard. One of my favorite partnerships

Agree. Only Mané, Coutinho, Lallana are our stand out players, and by standout I mean players that would compete for a first XI spot in a combined top 6 XI.

But that isn't what makes us the worst of the top 6, its the fact that our other players are nowhere near comparable to other teams' non-standout players.
Loven V Alderwield. Alderwield all the way, now he isn't the most talked about Spurs player, but he does a bloody good job. Whereas our equivalent Lovren, is okay at best.

If you could make your starting 11 from the top 6, would Mane, Coutinho and Lallana be the only Pool players in your team in a Jurgen Klopp system (i.e. Zlatan is a fantastic player but probably doesn't fit Klopp's style for example)
