One of my favourite "post-rock" bands, EITS are a four-piece from Texas who build mini-symphonies around 3 electric guitars and drums. Loud, explosive and always beautiful, this review from Esquire pretty much sums up my love for them:

Personal favourites are bolded but really all six tracks are wonderful. This was their 2nd album, but their 3rd and 4th are also things of beauty - I highly recommend them.

I liked that. I mean I really fecking liked that. Was going to give it a quick sample before a proper listen tomorrow but as soon as it started I had to listen all the way through. I really can't pick a highlight because the whole thing was actually fantastic. Easily one of my favourites posted in this thread.

There really is no better feeling than listening to music with absolutely zero expectations and getting something as brilliant as that.
 
I've heard The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place once or twice and thought it was alright - will check out the second album now.
 
Ok, given it a listen...

It's alright. A bit like a mix of Mogwai and Lift to Experience, but not as good as either.

I used to be a lot more into this kind of music but I find it gets a bit boring. With just guitar, bass and drums, playing in one particular style and using the same dynamics for every song there isn't enough room for the variation required to keep all the songs from sounding too similar.

Also, I was in a band that played this kind of stuff and honestly, it's really not that difficult to do it well. Get yourself a delay pedal and away you go.

Neil Young is almost cheating, isn't it? (Answer: It would be if you had posted one of his more well-known classics. Why did you post that one? Recommend some of the songs, as I don't know it.)

Yeah I dont think people should be posting stuff like Neil Young and Alice in Chains. Everyone's already heard that stuff.

Again, a lot of people haven't heard these records. I was going to post something a bit (well, a lot) more obscure but I thought I'd do something a little different by posting an album regarded as a classic but that's not actually that popular or well known. This thread will serve as a way to get great music to people's attention, whether from a famous artist or a band that no-one has heard of.

Sadly, a lot of my favourite records (a few that I was wanting to post tonight) aren't on Spotify or Last FM.

Listen to it and you'll find out. They are all brilliant songs - you'll definately have heard Cinnamon Girl though.
 
I wanna live with a Cinnamon Girl! I'm convinced. I'll spotify it. (I didn't know what album it hailed from.)

But yes. Post something more obscure next. Your taste is fine, you'll pull it off. I suspect that most of those/us who follow this thread already know the more well-known ones...
 
Some comments:

I checked out Explosions ages ago. They were another decent post-rockish band. Good but boring.

I know Yo La Tengo pretty well but should probably have listened more to them. MLCOTW is a great song. But too much of them tends to bore me.

Alice In Chains is Alice In Chains. Out of all of those 90s grunge-or-not-grunge bands Smashing Pumpkins were the worth-while ones. The rest belongs in oblivion, in my un-humble opinion.

The Cantrall cover makes me think of Eva Cassidy and thus I refuse to listen to it.
 
Probably. Then again, you haven't heard this fine platter and the thread was never given any rules bar posting one album a day. It never said one unheard of or unusual album per day. It's only us music snobs who try to be all hip and attempt to out-obscure each other, anyway!

I genuinely searched for four much less well-known albums tonight before I plumped for a concise classic by Mr. Young. Spotify wants to get it's act together and put some more stuff up there... Unless we are able to add stuff to it ourselves - I've only been using it a couple of weeks and am not entirely sure how it works.

The Cantrell album is not as bad as Cassidy by a long stretch but she's no Gillian Welch.
 
No that's true. I half-applaud your choice and might easily fully applaud it later. I've not heard this one and it probably makes as much sense to pick underrated albums by great musicians (hm, I need to plug Bolan's Zip Gun later!) as simply underrated musicians. As you say: it's 1000 albums and that's a lot. But I suspect we won't get that far and ought therefore to start with the more interesting ones.

(I'm just being selfish. I love Neil Young and know I'll listen more extensively to that album at some time in my life sooner or later, so I'd rather you posted something I'd never listened to otherwise. Did I say selfish? I meant selfabsorbed and beer-y. What were the four other albums you searched for?)
 
I wish I could post some records by my favourite lesser-known bands, trouble is they are not on the streaming sites.

I could put download links but then we are on dodgy legal ground and people are less likely to give them a listen.

I suppose I could PM you some stuff as you seem to have similar tastes to me.
 
I'm with Laphroaig on the Explosions. I have a couple of albums myself and they're ok but all Post-Rock pales into comparison with Godspeed You! Black Emperor.

Just finishing listening to Neil Young now, not an album I'd heard before, but it's nice enough. Hadn't really heard much of his stuff until seeing his appearence at Glasto on TV last year inspired me to give it a try, and while this is a decent enough album, I wouldn't rank it up with his best stuff.

I dont know this band at all and have never heard anything else by them. I just happened to hear Eugene as background music on a podcast (This American Life) and liked it. The album is very different from the music I usually listen to but much better than the crap that plays on the radio all day long these days.

Had a listen to this, well a few tracks of it so far, and I'm not into it at all. Doesn't help that I'm not a fan of violins in general and that his music reminds me of Stephane Grappelli's stuff with Django Reinhardt, which is the only violin stuff I really like. It's just a bit pastichey so far.
