Like Hip Hop? Like Rock music? Like music in general? Have ears? If so, most of you will probably hate this album with every inch of your soul. I'm not sure how best to describe what kind of music this band is making; there's a rhythm to the vocalist's delivery that suggests he's rapping, but he shouts out every word with such inaudible, deafening growls, that it could just as easily be the local loon, sitting in his cardboard house, shouting out obscenities as you pass by with your family and kids.
On first listen, you will probably know whether or not you're going to like this album. Some will find it too abrasive and unlistenable, and I can understand that. But if you're able to look past that, you see that every song is actually pretty damn catchy. The lead single, "Get Got", opens the album with African drums, and there are a few moments on the album that nod towards similar world influences, but in a very exciting, avant-garde, militant way. There's also a very strong leaning towards electronic music. And some rock riffs. And some pretty good rapping.
Album of the year for me, so far.
Standout track is the Salt N' Pepper influenced, "I've Seen Footage";
While the music can be a little too cute at times, it's certainly an album I associate with warm summer days. And Nina Persson can't help being cute I guess. Dig their usual Black Sabbath cover as well.
If the first come first serve shtick still applies listen to Hung, Drawn & Quartered by Bitter Ruin. I don't know how to link to spotify, so find it yourselves you lazy wanks!
Named for the mighty Belfast singer's exhortation at the close of his song, Into The Mystic, It's Too Late…is oft-referred to as one of the greatest live albums ever recorded.
