Listen to 1000 albums.

Another album?
I thought thread overlord, Burndogg, had decreed a 3 day break?

Don't worry, just skip it, it's crap. That guy's got a horrible whiny voice and his songs and arrangements are as cliched as they come. 3/10

Here is a few quick comments on the ones I have listened to:

.
Album 1: Playlist: The very best of Living Colour by Living Colour

Apart from a couple of duff tracks I like almost all of this - I already knew the track 'Me, Myself and My Microphone' from the Judgment Night soundtrack but never heard anything else from them. Heavy yet funky - I like the energy.
8/10

Don't know how well known they are or if any of you will even like it but I love this album at the minute.

Album 2: Brothers by The Black Keys

Know the band well but hadnt heard this new album - was decent enough but didn't really stand out from their other offerings on first listen. Will be giving it a few more listens though.
6.5/10

Saw these guys a couple of weeks ago and it reminded me how much I enjoyed this album on release. Relatively successful in the charts, but it always surprises me how few people I've met who actually listened to the album.

Album 3: Acolyte by Delphic

Saw them doing a support slot to Orbital last year and had never heard of them at the time but they seem to have got a fair bit of press this year. Wasn't that impressed last year and still not particularly impressed now - average indie band with a bit of electronics thrown in.
5.5/10

Saw him on Orange Unsigned Act in 2008 and he was the eventual winner, although at the time I didn't like him at all. Since then I've given his stuff a listen and have grown to like him.

Yea I watched that and his song "Gimme a call". feck his voice is annoying as hell "Gimme a call, you've got a phone don't you, turn it on I need to hear from you".

I remember wanting to break the phone over his head so I'd never have to hear that whiny squeak again. Sorry man but if I listen to him I'll probably have to murder some one.

You obviously made it through more than the 7 seconds it took me to kill it.

But if you lock it then I am not going to be able to give you my pearls of wisdom on the albums !

Bet you wish you never started this now! Anyway it was a good idea, just needs a bit of structure to make it really worthwhile.

Structure indeed, i may go for a new thread each month, keep it tidier, oh and on the side of linking each album in the OP, i had intended that after someone else suggested, but im swamped at the moment, if anyone else enjoys doing that sort of thing work away and ill paste it in.

Just sticking my head in here to say great shout on the Black Keys album, whoever that was, its a fantastic, easy listen.

Tried the Little Dragon album before and wasn't all that impressed. It was alright, but all a bit average, nothing really stood out for me on there at all. I could happily have it on in the background for a bit, but definitely can't hold my attention.

I wish I never put the numbers in my name :(

I have missed a few of these albums since I was away for a week. Is there anyone that is a definite should listen to that's been posted in the last week?

Nick Drake's Pink Moon, if you've not heard it before.

I had this page loaded from half an hour ago and was literally about to try do that list decorativeed, I'm so very glad I refreshed the page first!

Anyway, gave Israel Kamakawiwo'ole a listen, a really lovely album. While I don't think anything quite matches the beauty of the track most will already know, Over the Rainbow, it's still a really nice listen. Great stuff.

I'm finding Nick Drake quite boring but maybe I'm not in the right mood for it. I need some hard rock I think.

There's been nothing like that posted this week though.

A few months back I made a massive list of United players who had scored on their debuts as per someone's request. Took me an hour. When I posted it I realised someone had done it about 5 minutes after it was requested! Always refresh - a sound piece of advice if ever there was one.

I need some hard rock I think.

I have got an awesome album for everyone to get their teeth into. It's basically like a three hour Wagner opera crammed and condensed into fifty minutes of black metal sensory overload. I'll post some tracks tomorrow morning as we're on a break.

The Nick Drake is a fine album although I prefer Bryter Layter.

Album 29..Negură Bunget -'N Crugu Bradului

This is a concept album from a Romanian band who since the early 00s have been making some of the most beautiful, intense music i've ever heard. The title translates as "Through the Deepness of the Fir Tree Heights"
It's four tracks represent the four seasons.

Obviously Black Metal is a genre most people just aint gonna like but surely out of 1000 albums there is room for at least one.I can't be bothered with Spotify so here are it's LastFM page and a couple of Youtube links.

I just gave Tommy Reilly a listen. Really really didn't like that at all. It's normally the sort of thing I would enjoy, but his voice is horrible at times, I mean really bad. Won't be listening again.

Negura Bunget are awesome, great choice Nearco.

No love for Black Metal? In fairness, they arent a stereotypical Darkthrone/Burzum/Mayhem clone. Give them a go, you may find yourself pleasantly surprised

I have done. I wasn't. I used to work in a stockroom with three people who were into this stuff and I know I'll sound like an old man here, but I could not tell the difference between the bands or records they put on save for the fact that some had synths, some even had an orchestra, others didn't. Otherwise it was the same song over and over.

They do, but I suppose you need to be familiar with the genre before that becomes obvious. On second thoughts I don't see how anyone couldn't tell the difference between say Transilvanian Hunger and De Mysteriis..... Radically different in every way.

Not really a fan of Black Metal. I like the odd Bathory song.

And then you compare those to Filosofem and Hvis Lyset Tar Oss, a different thing all together. But as you say, and as with every genre, you have to be familiar with it to hear the music properly.
