Any reaction from Bluemoon?
Forcing the board to step down isn't going to magically alter their finances. It's about spending the last few years of his career at a club that has a very realistic chance of winning the CL. Barca have been terribly mismanaged over the last few years and it's very hard to see how they can rebuild quick enough given his age.
Shame he won't leave as that would have been interesting. Now they've got a rebuild on their hands under a relatively underwhelming manager, with public acrimony between their star player and the board. All their dirty laundry out in the open, and increased pressure with the scrutiny this drama has exacerbated.
My feelings precisely, couldn't happen to a better club.
You love to see it as Dortmund would say
Your argument is ridiculous. He’s stated he wanted to leave, he had a clause to leave for free.
Why do you think he would want city to pay a fee for him, when they didn’t need to if the clause was activated?
There’s a massive difference between the costs of Hazard and Messi, and you know that.
Any reaction from Bluemoon?
What a clown. Stay away from my club.
I'm almost certain this was orchestrated from the off to essentially guarantee Font his seat & allow for a clear out
No balls at all to test his ability elsewhere.
I was super excited to finally see him in EPL but I should of known he was never going to leave the comfort zone o Barca.
Nothing changed so staying makes no sense. His excuse of not taking them to court makes no sense either.
Barca were one of my favourite clubs until those 2 finals. feck em.I'm still bitter that the feckers beat us twice in those CL Finals. feck them.
So Messi was informing Bartomeu about leaving for a year but he told his wife at last minute? "Honey, I have a surprise for you. Let's move to rainy Manchester!"
Just scared to ruin his reputation in the PL is what this is.
Koeman must secretly be a bit relieved though Messi seems like he could easily sour the mood in the dressing room.
Yeah.. something saying the deadline to terminate his contract was being extended from june because of Covid and the season still going on.You mean like a contract saying so?
How is my argument ridiculous? The clause needs to be activated by June 10 but Barca were in the middle of the season. Several good tier sources at City said they were willing to pay a fee, just not 100M. Your argument is just dumb. City knew this was going to be dicey situation and would only put in a bid once Barca would agree to sell him. Barto refused to go lower than 700M. Messi said all season to Barto he was going to leave. The contract wording from his side was based on the agreement that it was season's end, Barca are saying it had to be June 10 but Messi leaving in the middle of a season would've thrown the whole team in dissaray. You just don't have much of an idea of what you're talking about.
Good, if he actually joined City they'd surely be winners of PL for next 3 seasons, plus probably UCL winners at least once.
Think Messi will stay at Barca until he's 36/37 and then go to MLS/back to Argentina.
Bartomeu won't be Barca president this time next year so think this was unique chance for Messi to leave.
It comes down to loyalty vs ambition though at the end of the day though, so it depends where his head’s at. It’s understandable if he’d want to finish his career at the club he’s won so much at already. I was expecting a protracted legal battle in all honesty, so I’m just surprised it’s been largely wrapped up and he’s backed down.
Forcing the board out obviously won’t fix their finances no, but they’ve hardly presented themselves as capable of steering the club in the right direction. I certainly wouldn’t want them at United if it were us.
Unlike the Greizmann situation, he is not going to get booed all seasonWhat a circus this is going to be in the upcoming season
I’m guessing this was all to try and force the board to step down. I’m actually quite surprised they haven’t been forced out considering the mess they’ve made of the club.
I am afraid it’s you who doesn’t know what your talking about.
What is your rationale for thinking he wants to leave, not for free, but for a fee? It seems a nonsensical argument.
Did he want to leave? Yes
Did he think he could leave on a free? Yes
It you somehow think he actually wanted to leave for a transfer fee?
in that case the board didnt grant him that legally, knowing it was clearly his request.Yeah.. something saying the deadline to terminate his contract was being extended from june because of Covid and the season still going on.
The way I see it. The board has won this round, regardless of how Messi's entourage wants to spin it.I’m guessing this was all to try and force the board to step down. I’m actually quite surprised they haven’t been forced out considering the mess they’ve made of the club.
100%Meh, as expected.
I find it incredible people think this is over. That interview is basically saying the board have lied to me, I am legally allowed to leave for free, I love the club too much to take it through a messy court battle, I want to leave for a fair price and they can rebuild on younger players with the money which is best for the club but the board won’t accept anything under 700m and I’m being forced to stay against my wishes. Oh and the President is a disaster.
I don’t think that’s a tenable position for Barcelona to take against their greatest ever footballer and the pressure on the board is even bigger now.
What's the incentive for the board to step down? I mean, if they don't want to, who has the real power to force them out?
I’ve laughed all through this
One of, if not thee, best footballer of all time wants to leave his club for free in this day and age of dodgey agents and owners and he is upset/shocked he can’t?
Is he off his ****ing rocker?
Especially when he still has a good few years left of being at or near the top 3 players in the world

Why are Barca asking for 700 million, fair enough that his buy out but nobody is paying that fee.
They could easily get 100 million plus for him, why not get rid of the bad egg and put the funds towards two or three players with potential. They can't rebuild with a 33 year old anyway.
How much does people think he's worth?
Why are Germany and France always called the "one-team-leagues", when actually Juventus in Italy has the longest streak of being league winners with 9 titles in a row?His prime wasted
Jesus fecking christ, he has played for a team that has completely dominated the feck out of Spain, he's got 10 league titles, 4 CL titles, 6 copa del reys and he's won the ballon d'or 6 fecking times, not to mention the fact that he's one of the best paid players in the world. Has any team won as many big trophies in the same period of time (Apart from the one team leagues that are Germany and France).
And somehow his prime has been wasted.
fecking mint that.
I don’t know the ins and outs of Barca politics, but surely the club being owned by its membership makes the board a lot more answerable to the fans.
Yeah.
The real winner here is Cristiano
If it's true, then why the drama? Fans can just get rid of the board easily.
