Lionel Messi

If he stagnates at his current level for a while then really it can never a bad thing for us viewers. If the current Messi doesn't excite as a footballer, I don't know who could

Yeah of course he's still brilliant, but I think it's fairly obvious that many people are becoming 'immune' to seeing Messi do what he does for this Barcelona side. It will take some big bollocks for him to leave but I think it would help his overall standing in the game and bring back more of the excitement I used to get from him a few years back.

i dream that one day Messi will get tired of winning everything and decides to face new chalenges in another league

and which league is more chalenging than the Premier?

and, of course, he wont go to a midle of the table team, like liverpool, he will come to manchester united

Let's change our kit sponsor to Adidas and get them to fund it!

I know he's won many trophies and individual awards, but for me he has to go for the biggest one now... Beating Stoke at the Britannica on a cold rainy Monday night.

I've been dreaming for this to happen. Maybe one year Barcelona will have a freak season and finish third in the group phase, drop to the Europa League, and face Stoke.

Last night's was better. Both the pass and the finish were more difficult to execute. Messi had to put power into it last night at a tighter angle but against Basel he "just" steered it. It's also harder to pinpoint a pass from 30m than it is from 15m.

All about personal preference, I guess. There are, after all, many to choose from

He needs to leave Barcelona IMO, he's in danger of stagnating there. Not just because he needs "to do it without Xavi and Iniesta" either, I actually think a different system to the Barcelona one will bring out another side of him which will excite us all again.

It would take madness and stupidity to leave this current Barca team. When you're at the top of the top, why would you wanna leave ?

New challenges?

Would you leave United if you played for them when they were one of the best teams ever? It'd be just stupid if he does leave, no chance of it happening unless he wants to finish his career somewhere, but that will be way after his peak. Absolutely no reason for him to leave. Obviously every other fan other then Barca fans would want him to leave, but that is just because they are jealous really.

Winning seasons after seasons is as big as it gets in terms of challenges.Imagine the likes of SAF, Giggs, Scholes and all the great people United has had at the club thinking like you described

Leaving for another club is a great new challenge for him, as it would've been for al those mentioned. Messi is a special case, he could arguably be the greatest of all time and I think a change of scenery will help him along that path, I actually think he could shine brighter for another club than he does for Barcelona.

For someone as talented as him, and for someone who finds football so easy, I think he should seek out a new challenge to continue testing, and then proving himself. I see all the Barcelona fanboys are upset at the very suggestion, unsurprisingly, but it doesn't make the point less valid. Comparing Giggs and Scholes to him is a lazy point, they aren't anywhere near comparable to Messi.

It depends really, if I was Giggs and Scholes level, then probably not. If I thought I was greatest of all time level, then perhaps I would, to seek out a new challenge and prove myself in another scenario.

Anyway, it's not about wether Messi wants to leave or not. It's just simply me expressing the opinion that I think he should leave, I think it would cause to me refind some of the excitement I used to get from watching him. Like I said, I think I'm getting a little immune to his heroics in this Barcelona side, and it's not jealousy.

Still better and more to the point than your drunken ramblings.

How exactly does what I said constitute as 'drunken ramblings'? Or is that what you call every opinion that doesn't coincide with yours?

Messi/Barca fanboys, Jesus!

That's all you do in this thread isn't it? You come here and make a stupid post, and then you get ridiculed for it, and then you call everybody here Messi/Barca fanboys.

What was so stupid, please explain?

I said I would rather see Messi at a different club in order to get excited by him again, I'v become a bit immune to his goings on at Barcelona.

How exactly can I get 'ridiculed' for that?

I don't think Lionel Messi cares that Fergus' son from the Internet thinks he should move clubs just so he can get excited about him again.

Yeah, I don't think he knows who I am in fairness.

Good point, well done.

People really are dangerously defensive about the little fella aren't they? I haven't even criticised him!

People have merely pointed out that your assertion that he needs new challenges is a bit illogical. They don't accept your view, you can't accept theirs.

I can't see how it amounts to being 'dangerously defensive.'

One poster did manage to actually put forward a response, fair play to Koroux. I completely accept his point, it's one of those things that actually is a 'personal' opinion, what would YOU rather, Messi stay or Messi go?

It's some of the others that are dangerously defensive about Messi, not because they disgagree with me, but because they think someone who would prefer to see Messi leave(for entertainment purposes) is drunk, and because all they can muster as a response is a shit gif or a point about Messi not caring what people on the internet think.

I would point out that in holding an opposing viewpoint to yours, that you referring to them as 'fanboys' antagonises them.

For the record, being rather old fashioned I would love to see him stay and finish his career at Barca. He can realise all the challenges at that particular club and the one remaining is to win a WC winners medal.

This isn't Matt Le Tissier we're discussing

Fanboys is what I know of certain posters, it isn't due to the current discussion.

Oh it isn't Matt LeTissier? Thanks for that information.

You can't realise 'all challenges' by staying at Barcelona, especially if one of the main challenges people point to is perhaps doing it in a different set up or league. It's fine that you think he should stay though, longevity at one club is a challenge in itself, it's just that I would rather he tackles other challenges.

I'd rather Messi stay at Barcelona than go anywhere else. He doesn't need to prove anything to anyone by going elsewhere and no other system will suit him quite as perfectly as the Barcelona system. As a football fan it seems obvious to me that Lionel Messi at Barcelona is best for the neutrals.

I respect your opinion, but the bolded part is part of the intrigue for me. I actually think he would be great in another system (particularly at a good club with training everyday etc, as opposed to the national team) and it would reinvigorate people's, and definitely my, excitement for him. I genuinely believe some people are becoming a little immune to his genius as it stands.

I don't think there is an obvious answer as what the neutrals would prefer, depends on the particular neutral really.

Thought about this myself. I reckon in another team he might find himself getting more freedom and could potentially be more devastating. The way teams play Barca, there's never much room to work in

Me too, and I'd be very keen to see how it unfolds.

The question I'm asking you what does Messi have to gain from leaving Barca ? A team that guarantees to challenge regularly for the biggest trophies. The question is asked from his POV, I think he'd never be as happy as he is at Barca anywhere else.
Would I

Definitely yeah but it's not vital. To keep improving seasons after seasons, to keep winning is great.

From his POV I'm not sure, it certainly would mean leaving his comfort zone, and his second home. The only thing I would say is that him leaving and proving his worth elsewhere may improve his overall standing in the game, the 'take him out of a team that dominates as much as Barcelona' argument won't hold up if he goes and smashes another league. I'm not sure it matters much to him though.

There's very few clubs in Europe that could realistically afford whatever crazy fee Barca would demand for Messi. I mean, could anybody really see City, PSG or Chelsea interesting Messi? not a chance IMO.

Puerile musings merit responses that befit that juvenile nature . You know what they say, if the gif fits... ;)

I read that an English pundit witnessed Leo warming up by exchanging 40 yard passes without it touching the ground ahead of the PSG match. Someone was able to catch part of it on video - I've seen him & Dani do this before matches before but not sure if others had. Impressive skill really

thats great, love seeing stuff like that.

Really shows the difference between us lads down the park and them, they make it look so easy but i doubt many could do it.
