He's out there having fun whilst his Barcelona buddies are being molested my Mexicans. Messi to big for Barcelona already?

Due back at work on the 8th - might (according to Guardiola) play in the Supercopa on the 14th. Normal service, for him and Barca, soon.

Messi entered a girl's bedroom with whom he wanted to score. She tells him to get comfotable and leaves to freshen up. When she returned, she found him lying on the bed naked with 2 other naked guys. "WHATS GOING ON?!" the girl shouts. Messi calmly replies "I'm sorry dear, but I can't perform without Xavi and Iniesta!

Don't know where to post this, mesmerising...

He must be one of the quickest thinkers ever (if not the quickest) on the football pitch. The speed at which he executes his thought processes is mind-boggling..always looking for possibilities, solutions.

His goal in the CL at the Bernabeu last season was a prime example..quick free-kick and then bang he was going past the Madrid players at ease. It's scary how quickly he changes direction at full pelt. It almost seems as if he has a birds-eye view of what's going on below him and just exploits the gaps with ease..memerising talent.

Another day, another award.

First of its kind and Messi is the first to pick it up.

Poor Ronnie, don't think he wanted to be up there at all.

 what a picture though.

That award was all a waste of time, and Ronaldo knew it. He should have gone in shorts and t shirt a la Puyol, thats how relevant the award was. Shit trophy as well, Messi looked embarrasssed to get it.

Also, can we have just one presentation where Platini manages to hand the trophy over smoothly, before swiftly fecking off out of sight? I swear, he is always really jittery when he holds the trophies, and is really awkward when handing them over, and it takes away from the moment somewhat imo.

Just wanted to say..Messi and Argentina are in Dhaka, Bangladesh of all places at the moment.

They'll play Nigeria in a friendly - $4mil appearance fee for Argentina, and Messi guaranteed to play for 45minutes.

Question is, will he pull out one of these, in a friendly match?

and more importantly, as I'll be attending the match, should I do *something* that would enhance our chances of winning the CL?

anyone see him over the two friendlies?

Impressive, his run against Nigeria was vintage.

He's been so poor for Argentina that you need to drool over his performances in pointless friendlies in the middle of Asia?

*must try harder*

Now one page due to ghosting is one thign but 2!!!

Well that another thing added on to the original one.

I saw him play against Venezuela, he played some sensational stuff. Easily a class apart from his team(apart from Di Maria actually).

I watched him live against Nigeria. I went to the game only half joking about 'Operation Kneecap Messi', but at HT, as he trudged off the pitch...I was won over :lol:

I've seena ton of players from the likes of our own Ronaldo/Rooney/Scholesy/Giggsy to Baggio/Zidane/Xavi/Iniesta and a whole host of others in person, but Messi is just

His balance, his quick feet(sure we watch it on TV, and on replays time and time again) but live...completely blew my mind.

He played the full 90 - the heat was sapping, even the Nigerians were struggling, and while he didn't score himself(came mighty close twice) he set up a couple of goals, and really should have had 2-3 more assists. His range of passing was incredible...and all in a meaningless friendly.

PS. Nigeria :nono: Not cool...extremely dirty and aggressive for a friendly, Messi was taken out 4-5 times, quite hard, and twice from behind in borderline tackles(if this was against barca - Xavi and Co would have been hounding the ref to death)

All in all a great experience.

Well, everybody else does it. There was a tangle of legs, but he went down theatrically. I don't think the outrage is at Messi's dives. It's more of his die hard fans insisting he's done nothing wrong and he's the South American jesus or something.

Hardly a sin worth another e-lynching. Just concentrate on Boss instead. How silly does the dizzy cow look now? Starting a thread about Barcelona nailed on to win the league already.

Good read

Why Messi Is Truly the Best | Sports | Epoch Times

There was not a happier person in Barcelona last Saturday than an 11-year-old boy from Morocco named Soufian. He saw his hero Lionel Messi, the Argentine soccer superstar, slapping his thighs after scoring the first goal against Osasuna.

Following the goal, Messi lifted his hands in a characteristic gesture and immediately started slapping his thighs, a way he had agreed he would beforehand with Soufian so that the boy would know that this goal was dedicated to him.

And Messi kept his promise. It was a characteristic gesture of generosity by the most uncharacteristic, and talented, of all soccer players.

Soufian had lost both of his legs to Laurin-Sandrow disease, an extremely rare genetic condition. Set with artificial legs, he hadn’t lost his passion for soccer. And he feverishly followed Messi’s performances with Barcelona.

The Moroccan boy was never disappointed. Nor was the Spanish sportscaster, aware of that promise, disappointed; he kept yelling after that goal, “Messi is huge, Messi is huge!”

Messi, considered the best soccer player in the world, met Soufian last January and for some unforgettable minutes played soccer with the Moroccan boy. When he met the boy again last Friday, Messi promised that his first goal would be dedicated to him.

When the game was finished, Messi’s team, Barcelona, had crushed Osasuna 8–0, with two more goals from the Argentine star, earning him a hat trick.

The Moroccan boy is such a Messi fan that he has his artificial legs painted with the colors of Messi’s team, known as “Barça”. And he has also painted on them the number 10, Messi’s jersey number, usually given to the team’s best player.

Humanitarian

Since he was 19, Messi has put part of his earnings from soccer towards good causes. In 2007, he established the Leo Messi Foundation, a charity aimed at helping vulnerable children gain access to better health and education opportunities. It was, perhaps, his way of expressing gratitude for overcoming his childhood health problems.

In a fan site interview Messi stated, “Being a bit famous now gives me the opportunity to help people who really need it, particularly children.”

Messi came to Barcelona when he was 13 years old, after being diagnosed with a growth-hormone deficiency, which made him unable to grow at the same pace as children his age.

Lionel Messi of FC Barcelona heads the ball toward against Osasuna last Saturday. Messi scored three times in the match, dedicating the first goal to Soufian, a disabled Morrocan boy.
He was then only 4-feet-7 inches. His soccer team at that time, River Plate in Argentina, could not afford the medical costs for treating his condition.

Barça’s sporting director, Carlos Rexach, aware of the boy’s talent, offered him a contract, which included payment for treating his hormone deficiency. Since at the time he had no other paper at hand, Rexach drew up the contract on a napkin, perhaps the only such contract in modern soccer.

Although Messi now stands at 5-feet-7 inches, he uses his relatively short size to full advantage. He easily dribbles among three or four opponents with unstoppable speed until he reaches the opponents’ goalkeeper whom he usually also dribbles past to score a goal. Because he is short, Messi’s nickname is “The Flea”.

Messi’s foundation supports sick Argentine children (mostly from his hometown of Rosario) to allow them to get paid treatment in Spain, covering hospital costs, round-trip transportation from Argentina, and recovery costs.

In March 2010, Messi was also named Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF, where he has been able to continue his work in support of vulnerable children.

Throughout his 24 years, Messi has proven to be unique. He is unique as a soccer player and remarkable as a human being. He not only is the most recognizable face of soccer worldwide, he is a kind young man who has brought hope and a brilliant smile to a young Moroccan boy.

This is an interesting comment. I can tell by the date it was made before Real lost against Levante. I'm sure their entire team doesn't cost as much as Kaka. Also please refrain from using my tagline in a debate, anybody can receive a misfortunate tagline at any second.

Besides my thread was about 'if Real fail.' I don't believe Barca are nailed on to win the league. It's going to be very close. I'm not sure why it's a touchy subject.

Well, he was comparatively pish today. Too complacent. Passing off. Often caught in possession.

Still, two assists, and another that should have brought the winner, had it not been a top save from the keeper, and on another day could well have been given a couple of penalties.

So he's brilliant, but really was quite pish.

My thoughts exactly.

The most productive player ever ? He either scores or creates tons of goalscoring opportunities for his teammates, this is ridiculous tbh. He's too good

of barcelona's 26 goals this season, 25 of them have been either scored or assisted by one of Messi or Fabregas.

It's one thing that Fabregas has hit the ground running and doesn't look like he'll warm the bench at all, but has strup up a quite special understanding with Messi already, hasn't he?

Fabregas was never going to warm the bench. Some people just don't understand team rotation, he barely warms the bench with the Spanish, but you'd believe so the way people make it out to be so, and he'll soon be a starter now he's proving his greatness in a great team.

Don't know if this has been mentioned yet but I read it in the newbies and thought it was interesting...

Just noticed this today, Barcelona's all-time scorer in all competitions is César Rodríguez with 235 goals, Lionel Messi is now at 192 which means if he manages to score 44 goals more this season he will become FC Barcelona's record all-time scorer at the age of 24

That's mental.
