Outstanding finish for that goal, but I do feel Arsenal have this man to thank for them not being entirely and completely humilliated over the two legs. In most games he takes any goal thats there for him, for some reason he didnt want to score normal goals against Arsenal only golazos. His finishing kept Arsenal in the tie a lot longer than they should have been

Not his greatest performance.

All night he played with that 'almost' factor. It was 'almost' a perfect through ball, it was 'almost a great dribble' but he kept getting stopped at the final hurdle.

Yeah. Don't think he played all that well. But he got two goals and to some that's all that matters.

For example I thought he had a great game at the Emirates but everyone was crucifying him on here for missing some chances.

Very weird set of posters.

just watching it again now. Iniesta looks so much like a short version of Michael Laudrup it's untrue; has more tenacity to boot.

Messi was good tonight (given the standards he's set). One of his through passes should've been finished on the right, and he obviously had the two goals to his name.

Excellent display for any other player.

God, i wish he was English! :D

Surely Ruud and Raul have scored more than 42 goals in Europe

They have. Raul has scored 67 i think, RVN 60, shevcenko a couple less i think, and maybe Inzaghi too but im sure they have all scored more than Del piero.

Top Ten UEFA Champions League Scorers of All-Time | Sportige

you are right about Del Piero, he's not the top scorer, anyway, messi's now 7th in the CL top scorer list

i guess is that what they ment is that he needs to score 42 goals to equalise del piero who is the next player on that list

anyway, here's the link from where i translated the facts

Did he mean to kick the ball straight up and then smash it past the keeper?

Or did he muck up his initial chip and smash the ball into the net after it kindly fell back to him?

I can't tell from the replay.

Just rewatched it in slow motion. He starts peeling away to celebrate after his initial chip but then realizes that he hit it straight up so he smashes the ball in and runs off to celebrate. He messed it up and was somewhat lucky that the ball dropped back to him.

He's well on the way to being the greatest ever imo.

He's a little selfish at times but he's got this huge number of assists so .. This guy is just not human. If he keeps up this sort of ratios, he's going to smash every single club goalscoring record. He isn't far from the 42 European goal record :wenger:
New adjectives have to be found to describe him, he's not human.
That touch before his first goal , so much composure

He is human, you can tell by looking at him.

I think he is so far ahead than anyone else though, he's almost not human.

Looks can be decieving.

I can see him scoring over 60 goals this season. Will that be the first time since Dixie Dean if he manages this feat?

Very likable player compared to the ret of his team too.

(Dani-Alves, Busquets, Iniesta to name a few) All tosspots.

I've just watched it again and I don't think so. He doesn't peel off at all, he shimmies slightly to his right to avoid the on rushing Almunia. I think he meant it because it isn't a dink or a chip it's a touch and an extremely delicate one at that.

At what point will be lose his drive/desire?

Football really is too easy for him....and to think he has been very wasteful just recently.

He's apparently passed all the greatest footballers without achieving anything on the biggest stage. Well done Messi!

That's the sad part. I like appreciating Messi, but people take it too far. Performing against Arsenal in the CL is not even a big deal, we've pummeled them before, Chelsea continually stuffed them for a few seasons. Doing it with Iniesta and Xavi around you shouldn't be all that hard.

It's an incredible feat, it truly is, but it only serves as testimony to the boys talent.

Are you talking about international football? It's pretty debateable that that's the biggest stage.

Eh? No it doesn't. That doesn't even make sense. Stop talking in hyperbole and cliche's man. You spit them out like they're going out of fashion
