Lionel Messi | PSG Watch

You would just have to skim through the posts of Cristiano fans invading this thread, extraxt the best quotes about mentality etc., edit them in front of the image a lion, wolf, eagle, shark or another very manly animal and it would make for a perfect Instagram channel.

That's because Ronaldo has always stood out in clutch moments and is in general a pretty good leader.

Also those types of things are said by both fanbases. There are certain words(like magician, genius, alien, etc) Messi fans also use which is related to Messi's image. So we can say the same about Messi fanboys.

Its because of the kind of things Messi and Ronaldo have achieved and their personality types.

Both these fanbases are equally annoying and desperate. That's always been the case. Their fanbases can't cope with their decline it seems.

Can't believe I'm saying this but Football Fandom will be a lot more bearable and normal once these 2 players retire.

Haha you make my post sound so cheesy because you deleted out the rest of what I said! I stand by my opinion that Messi has basically finished his career too early. He still has so much to offer but of course it’s his choice. When you compare the end of his career to the likes of Giggs, Ibra, Ronnie who have competed right until the end of their careers, it is slightly disappointing but that’s just my opinion and not a fact! Yes I am a self confessed Ronaldo fan boy though

People won't like hearing this but.....

The thing is players like Giggs and Ibra are held to much much much lower standards than Messi and Ronaldo.

Last season Zlatan was not even in the top 5 scorers of Serie A but you'll hear people go on like he's still among the best strikers.

All Giggs has to do as a veteran is be a good squad player and he'll be showered with praise.

A 15 goal league season for Messi and Ronaldo and they'll be slaughtered on the internet.

That's why its "disappointing" to you. These two are victims of their own tremendous success.

While some players can get away with ghosting for seasons and no one will care.

messi is still doing well in CL

Ronaldo had Mendes offering him around to all of the big clubs in the summer, Real Madrid, PSG both said no. United said no, and then once the City rumours started, United panicked, offered Ronaldo DOUBLE the wages City did, and Ronaldo went to United.
Also, I don't think Ronaldo is allowed in America atm.

American case has been dropped. City were gonna get him, listen to Peps comments when he joined United. Ronaldo could have gone to quite a few clubs

Top scorer in Ligue 1 is currently the grandpa Ben Yedder . They should have signed him instead. Never in my wildest dreams would I imagine there's going to be a time where Ben Yedder is number 1 and Messi doesn't even appear in the table.

Nope. Only big club that didn't want him were Madrid. The rest you can speculate

Not true, he was struggling to find a new team until the final week of the transfer window, for his wages very few wanted to take a chance

Fair points. I think I do have to agree that I probably do have too much expectation on Messi. After all, most footballers are completely finished by 34 so as you say, a 15 goal return is impressive all things considered. I just hope him and Ronaldo never retire, it’s great to still have them both in the game!

messi is still doing well in CL

Very true but that kind of agree’s with my point that Messi still has lots to offer and could be playing in the PL, the best league in the world. Anyway, I would love a Man Utd vs PSG champs league game for us to be able to play against Messi again.

Now compare their CL stats for this season

For sure, it almost feels like Messi has retired which is kinda lame but I hope once he gets a consistent run of games he’ll improve. A final time to see Messi and Ronaldo on the same pitch would be great

This sounds like your own theory as it has been already widely reported that Ronaldo was rejected even by United before. do you have any source that it was only Real?

Yes, but let's be real, their performances sometimes get overrated because of their reputation.

E.G Ronaldo performance at the Euro 2020 got heavily overrated because of 3 penalty goals, Patrick Shick had a better performance scoring the same amount of goals with less penalties, and barely anybody praised Schick.

Same goes for Messi and his WC 2014 golden ball, he was nowhere near the best player of the World Cup, and still won the trophy over Muller, Kroos or Lahm who were individually superior to Messi in the event, even James Rodríguez had a better tournament than Messi.

Just as they are held on higher standards, their performances sometimes get overrated based on their reputation, with other players doing the same or even more, but still Messi and Ronaldo get more recognition.

And let's not forget how Cristiano should have been sent off against Iran in WC 2018, and eventually miss the game against Uruguay, literally saved for being Ronaldo...not that it mattered, as he was invisible against Uruguay anyway, but still, his reputation saved him from being sent off.

I’ve not been watching PSG regularly. But I don’t remember him being bad when I’ve seen games (Lorient, Monaco and City at home) But some stats out there are really bad.

And this, is this meaningful? And how telling is it?

I didn't. You can watch the highlights if you want below and listen in, even the commentators said he turned the game around.

Once again, Messi came in a completely turned the game around for PSG. They just looked a different team once he came on. Fight me.
Sorry to bust your bubble. I watched the game. PSG were utterly dominant even before Messi stepped on pitch. Their issue was they were not precise enough so were not building on their already deserved lead which had begun to frustrate. Messi's arrival with 26 minutes to go provided the extra precision to finally put Reims out of their misery. Your phrase instead paints a scenario like PSG fluked its way to a lead, were hanging on till Messi stepped off the bench to rescue them. Its just embarrassingly wrong.

You cant ever conflate Messi enhancing their precision in a match they were already utterly dominant in with the phrase "turned the game around". Period. And this has all to do with you misusing phrases. Rather than anything Messi did upon an excellent return post a corvid 19 bout.

The fact is PSG under Pochetino have been fairly disjointed. It hasn't helped Messi one bit. Neither did his problem pre season and his injury issues thus far. He hasnt had a chance to really start exerting himself at PSG. If he can stay clear of corvid and injury the rest of the season. He will be doing far better than he has shown thus far. In spite of Pochetino's poor set up thus far

It’s funny how going to Ligue 1 basically drops these massive stars off the radar. Before he went to PSG, I’d watch Neymar all the time. Hugely unlikable player but lavishly gifted and entertaining. Thr same with Messi. Now though? I haven’t seen them play at all this year unless it’s in a CL game. I’m actually looking forward to seeing Mbappe in a better league next season and being able to watch him several times a season.

Neymar was a massive global star on the biggest stage at Barcelona. But he’s become a mere footnote the last few years. Messi signing for PSG almost seems like taking a sabbatical. Who even cares how he’s doing? He’s a footballer worth over a billion, who’s won pretty much everything. And he makes his last move for……more money. It couldn’t be less of a romantic and inspiring story if you tried.

“projects” like PSG, I don’t will the players to succeed or fail, I just will them to get little to no attention at all. Thank god Mbappe is leaving, so he doesn’t waste any more of his career. Already seen Neymar waste the best years of his career there, doing nothing. The same with Verratti, who’d have been considered one of the best midfielders of his generation had he played in a top league.

It’s why I hope that attention loving diva Pogba goes to PSG, and then fades into irrelevancy.

Best description of the whole situation.

Messi is at a retirement age unlike Neymar or Mpabbe. Moved for money yes but also what looked like a decent chance at the CL. They arent winning it this year though or the next. I dont really feel someone like Messi has anything to prove. I think rather than him trying to carrying Barca for the last few seasons he's probably happy that he's in a strong team where there is other match winners.

I'd also really like to see Messi get long period of starts injury free. No doubt his goal record in the league is really poor, but i think its harder at his age to get going when he's disrupted by injuries and covid. When he's 35 next season i think he will be finished.

Grandpa…? feck sake mate he’s one year younger than me. :(

Who has also played far more games than Messi and, you know, is a striker (and a good one).
Remember Gael Kakuta? Yep, he's still around. Usually plays in a wide position for Lens these days, or just behind the striker.

He has more goals than Messi.

Pretty much everyone has more goals in the league than Messi this season. No beating around the bush, it's abysmal. I'd still love to see him get a consistent run games for once while fully fit. Not because of his legacy and all that shit, but simply get to witness the best he has to offer at his age before he's completely finished.

That's only your opinion.

Aside from 5 goals 1 assist in 4 games, Ronaldo has avg rating of 7.92 and 2 motm, 2 dribble, 1.3 key pass in Euro from whoscored at the very least. Patrik Schick has avg rating of 7.55 and 1 motm, 1.2 dribble, 0.4 key pass

Ronaldo is better in about every key matrix per game - goals, assist, avg rating, motm, dribble, key pass stats.

Isn’t lovely to have a debate about Ronaldo vs Schick on the Messi thread?!

Ronaldo vs Messi is too far-fetched. We need to talk about Ben Yedder vs Messi.
