Lionel Messi - Performances

Robert Prosinecki, probably the most talented player croatia ever had thinks Messi is the greatest of all time. Bumped into his interview towards the CL final so decided to share it:)

He had a decent game tonight. Some nice runs and involved in all goals.

With this and if he is decent at Copa America, should be BDO for sure.

Doesn't even need a Copa América performance. Nailed on already.

Thought he was great tonight. Not at his absolute best but crucial in the win for Barcelona.

yep, his run in the suarez goal was mageesteereeal and broke juventus spirit

plus, he organized the counterattack for the third goal

he was there when needed

Wanted to see him get on the scoresheet. Could have if Neymar showed more awareness and crisper passing.

Good performance though, not the dazzling individual display most expected but it wasn't really one of those games.

His pass for the first goal also opened the defense and helped Iniesta find the space to penetrate.

Decent game? He was spectacular tonight, easily the best player on the pitch IMO and that's saying something considering how good Neymar and Suarez were for the most of it.

He had a really good game by mortal standards, by his standards it was a decent game.

Just goes to show how good he is, if anyone else on the planet has a game like that we'd be praising them. If a United player had a game like that, it would be cocks out

I can't say spectacular because then I couldn't find any word to some games like against City, Bayern, 2011 Wembley, etc.

He was decent in my Messimeter

He definitely wasn't spectacular. He was very good though and important both in buildup and creating all the goals.

Messi put in a good performance and was very important. He turned the game back in Barcelona's favour when Juventus were on top and the team looking more likely to score with his run which led to Suarez' goal. That piece of play and the goal which resulted from it came against the run of play and swung things back in Barcelona's favour. If he didn't produce that bit of magic then perhaps Juventus would have gotten their goal and won the game as Barcelona were being pinned back in their own half at that time and were under a lot of pressure from Juventus.

No, Because when you play against Messi you put more people to the left side. Even with no intention

They had enough people on the right. Except the midfielders forgot to track Iniesta. That's about it.

Messi's involvement was the cross field ball.

A tad extreme definitely though watching the goal back again it's interesting how many of the Juve players are pushed up the pitch towards Messi when he picks it up. Even when it gets cut back to Rakitic you can clearly see Pogba and Pirlo standing outside the area keeping their eye on Messi rather than tracking the run.

I genuinely thought Messi wasn't that good tonight, certainly as an attacking force. I'll watch it back tomorrow and re-evaluate it from a different perspective of midfield play as opposed to goal threat but live, I didn't think he was that good, and never worthy of a MOTM from rating WhoScored at all.

61 of 69 passes.
88.4% completion.
1 shot on target from the edge of the box.
1 "assist" from said shot and I'm not criticising Messi for this but it was more to do with Buffon's error to retain the ball and good off-the-ball work from Suarez rather than a pure 'assist' in the sense of the term.
2 shots off target.
1 chance created - a 5 yard pass 25 yards out.
10 successful dribbles.
Best dribble ruined Pogba and Evra on the far side and was superb.
6 failed dribbles.
5 fouls suffered.
5 short pass fails outside the box.
3 failed passes within the box.
0 tackles.
0 interceptions.
0 clearances.
2 fouls committed.

Result aside, because winning is all that counts ultimately - by his standards, that's a poor night's work. Statistically it's a decent output for everyone else though.

I'm not going to get into a debate any further about this, I'll just watch it again tomorrow. And before any silly comments come out, this has nothing to do with Ronaldo bias, just objectively watching the game as a neutral. He's allowed off nights and drops in performance and I think this was a case of it. He is human after all.

His cocksuckers must be gutted. Was going to be his crowning moment but it was a bit meh tbh.

The first goal only can be conceded by a team facing Messi. That's how important he is in the game.
 Nah that's silly mate.

Should have done better on that chance where he skipped but generally had a very good game and helped turn the game at a crucial time.

Since when he does he need a "crowning moment'? He's racking up trophies and motm performances for fun and is the heart of his team.

Good tonight as usual but Pique and Iniesta were their most important I feel. Sergio Busquets was brilliant too, the cnut. Ballon d'Or in the bag unless Neymar wins Copa America by himself and scores like 40 in the first half of next season before the voting.

Started move for 1st goal, assisted another. Lots of dribbles, lacked the end product a bit. No complaints. How many players had 10 successful dribbles in a CL match so far bar Messi?

Some sublime passing tonight. Just needed a goal to cap it off but it seems he only likes doing that against us in CL finals.

He doesn't need a crowning moment. He could do literally nothing for the rest of his career and he'll be remembered as the best ever. He'll never be defined by a single goal or game or even season.

he was very good. what he did tonight is almost unthinkable for every other player but the problem is, he is so good that no one compares him to other players any more. his game is being compared to his previous games and for some people, it seems that 2 or 3 goals per match are bare minimum.
