Lets laugh at Liverpool

We know the logistics of selling tickets and arranging football matches means a little forward planning is required, but the bods at the Liverpool ticket office might have wanted to wait just a little longer before sending out the following e-mail on Wednesday afternoon.

'FA Cup - Liverpool v Burnley (4th Round)

'Saturday 23rd January 2010. Kick Off: 12.45pm

'The Ticket Office will begin taking payments for the above game from Thursday 14th January.'

We wonder how sales are going...

Carra makes Reds apology

Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has apologised to the club's fans after their embarrassing FA Cup exit to Reading.

The Reds' vice-captain admits that the performance against the Championship strugglers was "not acceptable".

Rafa Benitez's men led 1-0 via an unfortunate own goal from Ryan Bertrand but Gylfi Sigurdsson's injury-time penalty and Shane Long's extra-time strike gave the Royals a famous cup upset.

Carragher pulled no punches about the performance and admits the whole team must take a look at themselves.

"It was a very bad night for Liverpool and we can't disguise that - we had to do more against a side from a lower league," Carragher told the Liverpool Echo.

"We have to apologise for the way we performed. We have to give credit to Reading, hold our hands up. We all like to win but when you don't, you have to be a good loser.

"We have to accept they deserved it. But, at the same time, we have got to look at ourselves and the way we performed was not acceptable.

"We've got a massive game coming up against Stoke now. It will be very tough, as we played extra time and we have got to show enormous character to come back.

"But that's what we have got to do. We have got to move on but, at the same time, we have to say sorry to the fans who came to Anfield and all those watching on TV."

Carragher also refused to blame off-the-field matters for the below-par showing.

"We have got to do better and we have got to recover," added Carragher. "There are still four months left of the season; it's been tough and this result has made it a little bit tougher for us.

"But we are Liverpool. We can't be where we are and we have got to improve. Liverpool Football Club demands certain standards. At the moment we are not reaching them and we know that but we have all got to come as one and stick together.

"The stuff that goes on off the field has got nothing to do with it. I don't think so anyway. If you say it has, you are only making excuses. Whatever goes on behind the scenes, we have got to do our own job."

ahem

Let it go Carra, your club captain already has... ;)

Starfish looks like he's already thinking about the WC and where he can possibly engineer a move to that can help him win titles because it's definitely never going to happen with liverpool.

"Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez blanked questions about whether his team was good enough after watching them crash out of the FA Cup to Reading.
Benitez's team went down 2-1 to their struggling Championship opponents as Liverpool's wretched season sunk to a new low.
The Spaniard, whose position as boss of the Reds now appears to be seriously under threat, repeatedly said he had seen "too many things I didn't like" during the match, but would not be drawn on whether this related to the performance of the referee or his players."

Video too at ITV Sport

EDIT: feck me that interviewer was awful.

Yeah, the interviewer is a jumped up Hitler, all so excited to have Rafa in a dead end situation that he totally cocked up the interview.

TBF to Rafa, his team are a disgrace. That team was good enough to win comfortably but has some serious issues in it. I cant put my finger on it, there are good team players there blah blah. Maybe they do need to get rid of torres and Gerrard and start again?

Id be interested to get opinions from others: Just what is Liverpools problem?

Anyway, before I forget:

Benitez points to the main problem

Liverpool manager Benitez should go, says Ronnie Whelan

Benitez is running out of time to save Liverpool's season
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez should be replaced following the shock 2-1 FA Cup defeat at the hands of Reading, says former Reds captain Ronnie Whelan.

The Spaniard has vowed to fight on, despite the loss to the Championship side, an early Champions League exit and poor Premier League form.

"Liverpool have not been good. They have lost 10 of the last 20 games," Whelan, 48, told BBC Radio 5 live.

"He should have gone a long time ago. They have got to do it now."
Do they bring in someone until the end of the season? Kenny Dalglish is back at the football club," he stated. "Could he do it until the end of the season and see what happens?" As a player, Dalglish joined Liverpool from Celtic in 1977 and spent six years in charge on Merseyside before leaving in 1991.

Whatever happened to the "Rafa is a God" view they were shoving down our throats after 2005?

Now Whelan thinks Dalgleish is the man:lol:

Would be sad to see Rafa sacked, PL would lose a funny man...

It would be devastating if Rafa gets sacked - they might get a half decent manager.

That Went Well Then - Part Two

"In this country it is the most important trophy after the title. If we won it then we would play in the Community Shield. Winning gives you the chance to get more honours and that should always be our aim.

"Of course we want to finish in the top four too. If we could do that and win the cup, it would be the best season we've had for the last three or four years. I know we finished second last year, but to win something and finish in the top four would be better than that" - Fernando Torres, January 13.

I see Fernando is learning the Liverpool history well. The community shield is actually an important trophy. Remember the great quintuple of 2001.

Carragher has the honesty to admit there is a problem when he makes public comments. He's a throwback to the Shankly years. Rafa on the other hand ... his post-match interview was impenetrable.

Liverpool could use Finnan, Crouch, Bellamy, Keane, Hyypia and Riise right now.

"We shall not fail or falter; we shall not weaken or tire. Neither the sudden shock of battle nor the long-drawn trials of vigilance and exertion will wear us down. Give us the tools and we will finish the job."

There is clearly a motivation / self belief issue there and the responsibility for that lies with Rafa.

You know things are bad when Pulis praises Liverpool by saying "they were dogged and deserved a point".

We often hear Scousers whine about how it's not really zonal marking which costs them goals...

Huth scored at the far post, where Carragher (red) is standing. But Squirtle (blue, ironically) is on the wrong side of Fuller (green) which means that Fuller is actually in a dangerous position, so Carragher must come out to help.

That's all and well - sometimes these things happen even with man-marking. But what are the three stooges circled in red doing there? They can't all be marking the same "zone", right? :wenger:

It looks like the two on the left are marking each other.

I've just had a great feeling. I was wondering who Liverpool were playing next. Then I found out.
2 days after we played Milan, they are playing Unirea Urziceni.

A scouse-supporting guy I work with has invented the idea of a mass boycott for that match. Get your excuses in early, I think it's called.

Guys I think its time to close this thread. According to Glen Johnson Liverpool have won everything. In Championship Manager.

Glen Johnson reveals he has won everything with Liverpool - on Championship Manager

Glen Johnson has won all the trophies with Liverpool on Championship Manager but now wants to do it on the pitch after recovering from a knee injury.

The Liverpool right-back admits playing computer games help him deal with the boredom of being out for so many months.

But now Johnson has had enough of playing Kop boss on the computer and wants to get back to playing again.

'I'm sick of TV now,' he said. 'When you're confined to the couch you'll look at anything. Thankfully Championship Manager got me through that time too. I won everything with Liverpool.'

Johnson, who has worked under several big-name coaches, including Fabio Capello, Jose Mourinho and Harry Redknapp, says Liverpool's 'real' boss Rafa Benitez has his own style.

'It is all football with Rafa, but that's not a bad thing,' he said.

'Obviously he clearly loves the game and wants everyone to improve and do well. As a player you can never complain about that.

'Just as every man is different, every manager is different too. Every boss has their own way of doing things and their own style. Rafa is like that too.'

Our period of domination is well and truly over. :(

On the plus side, their players are so poor they can't even afford FM and must stick with the old CM.

I saw that thread earlier

But in all seriousness, it's like having two RAWK threads now, shall we merge this and the RAWK one into the same thread?

It's like their Mickey Mouse treble season all over again.

Except they're not in the FA Cup.

Or the League Cup.

They could still have a Mickey Mouse treble season, if they:

Win the Europa League, do the double over us and finish top 4.

That would be a successful season for them, you know as successful as it can get. The fact that this was supposed to be the year, not like other years they've talked about for two decades, but 2010 was the year :D

Nah your selling em short there, Liverpool are on course for the unprecedented Quadruple this season:

Top 4 finish.....Winning the baby cup of europe......winning the "we beat United twice" trophy.....ANNNNNND helping Chelsea win the league.

I can hear the scouse pandemonium even now!
