Don't know about that. It appears the boom-bust cycle started early as a result of last years surprise finish. Sturridge has serious injury issues and unless Liverpool is going to get a new DM some CBs, a striker who can score 1 in 2 in the January transfer window they are going to be sunk.

Basically, they'll need to be spending 65-70m this window if they want to do well(by your standard).

Dunno that's my standard per se but rather an honest assessment of where they are at and what they need to contend. Last year they seemed to be able run teams off the pitch with consistent attacking. Their style last year also covered up some holes that were there. This year they've lost a two prime components in Suarez and Sturridge (to injury) and their all out attack philosophy under Rodgers has flailed and as a result we're seeing their problems/holes being exposed.
Don't forget that their defense last year was at times atrocious but when you score 4-5 goals you can cover-up bad defense if you win. Now they are scoring 0-2 goals and that bad defense is not usually able to shut the opponent out so they're losing and drawing quite a bit.
I'm so glad last season was a fluke.

Sorry when I meant standard I meant as in what we're thinking they need. Most of us would agree that they do need a lot of defensive minded players and a good striker.

Must be the mentally Rodgers instills in his players. I think he makes them act like "it's us against the world, we'll do it using passion and nothing else" kinda vibe. No logic to winning, but by god it'll happen.
