Let's all laugh at England

Look, I did my best to enjoy it, I shared the memes, I went through the motions but let's be honest, having an intelligent, decent English manager and a group of players who are not delusional arseholes takes a lot of the fun out of being an Irish observer of the English team. Can we just get Alan Pardew in there and get back to normal?

Small victories as a loser Scotland fan im guessing..

Yeah they epitomise losers at international level and it's quite pathetic really

Congratulations on your 'better than Scotland' trophy, lads.

Meh. It was only last summer that same manager was using WWII as a motivating factor against Germany (which is coincidentally enough a far more progressive country than the one he manages).

No one is perfect. I'm not a fan of his ability but southgate has been a class act in the role. Look how he took defeat yesterday.

There's more teams better than Scotland other than England. like everyone. Got to admire the self awareness though.

Your national and club football is a joke so when you laugh at England you should rightfully be ridiculed.

Since the 2006 World cup our victories are as follows:
Senegal
Wales
Iran
Tunisia
Panama
Sweden
Colombia
Slovenia
Paraguay
Trinidad
Ecuador

The last time I remember us beating a big team (and correct me if I'm wrong) is Argentina in the 2002 group stages... Just to show how bad our record is, Morocco have beaten Belgium, Spain and Portugal this world cup for context.

We always lose to the first decent team we face and yet we're always hyped up as winners by our media and fans. We're the Spurs of International football. I officially gave up last year after the Euros, if we couldn't win a major trophy against a terrible Italy team at Wembley when are we going to win ?

Just annoys me that our media and pundits constantly overrate our players, many of them had 3 French players in a combined 11 and then they come out afterwards and act like we played well and were plucky underdogs anyway. We need to get real or it will take another 60 odd years to win something.

Media just constantly kiss up to him because they are Southgate's friends and totally ignore the shite he's beat, waste of time trying to get them on board because will never say anything critical.

Don't bother me how well he took defeat, nothing is going to change with Mr no tactics

This is the thing, the viewpoint here is we are the superior side, the media pre game were saying we need to go toe to toe with France as we can beat them that way.
What confuses me is that all the talk of having a better team than France has now disappeared and it seems we were just underdogs. You'd think the same media and pundits that have 3 French players in their combined 11s would be calling for Southgate's head but most of them think he's done a good job, it's really bizarre.
I'll give southgate and england some credit. It was the right idea to go toe to toe with france. Yeah, it failed, but we always fail doing it the other way, as well. It was nice to see england on the front foot.

Come on you english folk lighten up! I laughed when we lost to North Macedonia. Know what gave me the ability to laugh? Reminiscing about winning the euros just past year! So laugh at england, and just think about all of your past triumphs, where you were and what you did and with who the night you saw your lads lifting the trophy, and laugh at this, it's just another world cup afterall, it's not like you never celebrated winning one before, right????

First of all neither I nor anybody else in the rest of the world take anything that Gary Neville says, the Valencia miracle manager, for insightful truth. And that goes for most pundits on UK TV. And it's not limited to the British ones, I often find myself wondering what I'm listening to whenever Henry or Yaya Toure get on as well. Henry is nowhere near a coach.

Clearly the TV Channels employ those with entertainment value that can boost engagement and make people subscribe. I should know, I've worked for a TV show. The producers want black or white, nothing grey. UK media does this but on steroids compared to everybody else. I'd hope Carragher and the rest are playing roles rather than sincerely believing what they say.

But it's also true that other Nations has some bias as well. If you ask the German media then Musiala is the new Messi. I'd rather leave the boy alone, he is not the new Joaquin yet let alone Messi. Where it goes wrong is that most German fans understand that is to some degree hyperbole but you get the feeling British people take it for truth believing Bellingham is top 5 midfielders in the world when in reality he is good but needs time and experience before reaching that status.

Apart from that, I don't know, it might be a cultural trait. Show no weakness, instill pride and belief. If we don't believe we can beat them then no way can we beat them. But one should never become deluded. Other countries might acknowledge being up against a mightier foe without for that sake giving in or admitting defeat beforehand. Uruguay or Chile
always acknowledge Argentina and Brazil but they are defiant saying so what, we will give them hell. Same as Croatia and Morocco.

I can’t post on the general forum so I’m going to put this here. I have come to a point in my life where I can’t go on. I am getting ready and I am going to drive up to the hills near my house and finish things. I have thought long and hard about it and there is no other option I can see apart from leaving. I just wanted someone to know before it happens . I am going to obviously message my family with the reasons. Enjoy life and don’t make major mistakes like I have.
I'm sorry to hear you are going through a tough time. Do you have a crisis hot line there or someone you can talk to for support? No matter what you have done in life people make mistakes. Life is hard. Take it one step at a time. Invest in yourself mentally and physically. Slowly build that momentum to get yourself to a better place. Take the little victorys and build upon them. It's not a easy process but start small and go from there. Hardest part is asking for help. Take care. I wish you the best.

I'm all for laughing at England, but this team did not get played off the park by France - they easily matched them and on large periods of the match were comfortably better.

Can't help but think that with a more ballsy manager they would have gone thru.

Or better luck?

Absolutely deluded they beat Iran,Wales and Senegal and were outplayed by USA before losing to the first decent team they played who were missing important players

I’m not going to name and shame but as with all these threads we’ve had the Empire mentioned, Brexit, WW2, xenophobia and football hooliganism all mentioned as justification.

Isn't that a typical English thing to do. I remember the Euro 1996. We came over for the quarter, semi and final matches.
The English tabloids were full with old war stories days before the England German SEBI finish in Wembley. The players were pictured as the soldiers and you would have thought there isn't a football match coming up but WW3 with a German invasion being imminent. England was brimming of national pride, only to succumb to national moaning after another penalty shoot out. We Germans didn't feel a particular rivalry with England, so the hate we got actually surprised us. These days Germany and Holland were the big matches.
I also have to say in the time before the internet was popular we loved to buy and read all the tabloids in cafes to kill the time until the match. However, after this experience I have to admit I always love to read your tabloids before and after matches. It's just fun and banter. Of course big defeats spicing it up, thus I'm always looking forward to the next English exit in a big tournament. England are a gift that keeps on giving.

Thread is up to 25 pages, you can just see some posters were drooling at the mouth to post after they lost.
It does feel like a lot of people were just waiting for that to happen so they can enjoy this silly little thread. I wouldnt say France was better but yet again nor was England. The only team I always want to laugh at is Liverpool.

I'm not English not even a fan but tbh what's there to laugh for?

Imo they did pretty great in this WC and England can be proud of them.

So you don’t like the war being mentioned by the press yet you enjoy reading the tabloids and funding them when you can?

Very weird post.

I knew this thread would be hanging around for much longer than the other let's laugh at threads. Not sure it's worth continuing to post on a forum where so many hate you for your nationality. It's all a bit disheartening. I don't hate anyone for their nationality but seems like plenty hate me for mine.

Don’t say that!

You’ll then have people calling you ‘fragile’, ‘hysterical’ and suggesting you’re being a ‘drama queen’.

Well of course, I'd expect nothing less on here.
Im all for a bit of banter but it goes beyond that on here. Pure hatred based on nothing more than events that happened hundreds of years ago and because the press get a bit carried away which I'm sure they do in most countries.
