Let's all laugh at England

No need to get disrespectful, you're making yourself no better than the "arrogant" fans you're railing against.

And its a song that has become a chant. It's also reduced to a phrase. Semantics, but whatever it wanna call it, you still don't understand how it's used by English fans.
I love how you speak for all fans, celebs and politicians. If that’s what you believe, so be it but also try seeing other people’s point of view. No hate included.

Its a stupid fecking chant. Theres nothing deep about Baddiel and Skinner

Accounts suggest the initial confrontations started when England fans reacted to unprovoked attacks by groups of local youths, which were exacerbated by alcohol. French police then stepped in and deployed tear gas.

French riot police have allegedly fired tear gas at crowds attempting to force entry into the Paris fan zone at the Eiffel Tower during the Euro 2016 final.

Only English fans though right.

You laughed cos I said that people don't understand the verses of the song. At no point did I say foreigners don't understand the song. It not about nationality, it's about cognitive engagement.

I did just say that the chorus has been co-opted by idiots, I didn't say you didn't understand it, I said they did. I was agreeing with you. Why is everyone on this forum so combative these days?!
The versus of the song have got nothing to do with this coming home blasted everywhere that’s why. Do you think they told Kasper schmeichal the versus first or checked he knew exactly what it meant before hitting him with the coming home silliness.

wdit: your second paragraph, sorry, didn’t mean to come across combatitive. Just putting across a different point of view

I wonder why people are so slow to pick up on England's apparently all-pervasive sense of irony?

The French didn't conquer the right people, so their french-languague news only goes so far...

Let's be honest about football's coming home. A big number of people (from my personal experiences) were saying it unironically and it backfired.

Apologies!

Not surprised this thread is still going strong, England losing a final is the biggest night in the other home nations’ sporting history combined.

Genuine question, if you’re all so riled by this thread (designed solely for mocking England losing last night) why do you keep commenting and getting wound up? It’s a piss take thread mate, it’s weird that so many of you have been complaining about racism towards the English, it’d be like jumping into a thread about let’s laugh at Liverpool and crying about xenophobia towards scousers

Also I’d take Wales results in the rugby over the last 10 years than that wet fart last night lad, and I don’t even like rugby!

And we will laugh at them all when their time comes. Today, it's England's time.
Interesting. Not sure I saw the threads for "Let's all laugh at France, Spain, Germany, Portugal". I may have missed them though.

Not much scope to be laughing at recent major title winners to be fair

You idiot you just don’t grasp the intricacy of English humour, that’s actually a clever subversion which plays on the tropes of stereotypical English jingoism. When he mentions the war, he doesn’t really mean it an earnest sense, but rather a calculated deconstruction of the English identity m.

If that ended 1-0 the debate would be raging on now about how they should be honoured.

Next season: "Wan-Bissaka.. passes to Lindelof.. shifted over the Maguire now, he gives it onto Sir Luke Shaw, Knight of the Realm and protector of all things sacred who finds Fred in the middle of midfield.."

You're doing the exact same thing Zlatan, assuming arrogance on their part.

The recent revival of "It's coming home" started with a viral tweet before the 2018 WC, something along the lines of "If you think with this young rubbish England squad and caretaker manager I'm gonna get carried away then you're absolutely right it's definitely coming home". It was a joke, the entire tournament it was a joke.

This time around there was a bit more belief, that it actually could happen, but it's still mostly about how it's a nice dream.

Can’t speak for anyone else but I’m just participating in the back and forth. All my posts in this thread have been light hearted and some tongue in cheek.

there we go, that’s all I’m saying. I just find it funny how hard it is to get that prized out of people

I don’t quite get what’s wrong with that? Oh the arrogance of believing in your team to win! How dare you.

I get that the press get excited, etc. But people shouldn’t have to apologise for being positive.

Belief doesn't mean arrogance though. Thinking that we could actually win is a far cry from thinking we definitely will. Every nation that made it through the group stage thought they could win.

England fans had been chanting that long before a 2018 tweet and even then how its started doesnt really matter, its how its perceived right now that matters.
Good intentions are often lost to history.
You cant say its not arrogance only to loudly proclaim how great it is to be facing average sides in the hallowed right side of the draw and such nonsense. I posted this before but go look at the lineups in the Germany 4-1 game. The mentality back then isnt any different to what it is now.

I can respect that, the comments about feeling racially abused wasn’t particularly directed at you, but rather the section that have been using that language. I should have made that clear.

I find it funny, I’m enjoying giving stick to my English friends, and while admittedly hard to do when Wales lost 4-0 to fecking Denmark, there’s genuinely no malice in it. I think on forums things can seem overblown but it’ll all be back to normal when the league kicks off.

I have not seen anyone particularly riled up?

There’s been a shit ton of comments stating that English fans have been the subject of racial abuse, and English xenophobia.

Some of these same posters who had made derogatory comments about other countries and that hypocrisy is annoying

English United fans getting on the high horse “You cannot support United if you don’t support England, go support your local team” - as if everyone of them is from proper Manchester…

Well go on and support Torquay United then. Or, if you really are a local, then go support FC United of Manchester and support the proper local team not the one owned by American billionaires.

Otherwise keep the straw man argument to yourself. The truth is if United only had “proper fans” from Manchester there would be no Sancho, there wouldn’t even be premier league football.

I get it, there is some over the top abuse. But everyone has dished out in “let’s all laugh at…” threads countless of times. If you’re really upset about the loss last night just avoid this thread, it’s not such a hard thing to do.
Someone promote this person.

I mean I’ll be gutted for a bit, but life moves on. You don’t seem to want to answer any of the questions though. I assume you’re from one of Wales, Scotland or Ireland?
You don't want answers. You just want an excuse to grumble and be sad. Understandable. Let it all out here, you'll feel better.

Of course the verses have to do with the chorus, it sets up the whole theme of the song, which is hope despite previous disappointment. Otherwise it just becomes a chant, which you say to @The Hilton it isn't.

As for shouting it Kasper, wasn't he born and didn't he grow up here, so he might know the song? In any case, putting off the opposition is half the point of the "12th Man"

It just adds unnecessary pressure.

Genuine question: what is it people hate about England fans?

Other than some annoying novelty songs and the god awful marching band they let into to the games, the list is probably:

-Entitled
-Arrogant
-Racist

Literally could be said about sections of fans across the world. Idiots exist everywhere.

I think a lot of it has actually to do with your ridiculous, over the top and disrespectful yellow press. You also didn't do yourself any favors by booing opposition teams anthems. Which means there is probably a lot of Schadenfreude involved in this.

Oh, yeah, and probably the whole Brexit disaster didn't do you any favors in the eyes of most Europeans either, which means you were already a bit on the shite list anyway. I know a couple of people who basically said "if England wins the EC their Brexiters will become unbearable and feel vindicated.

When it comes to racism I find it a bit difficult to throw with stones, I quite vividly remember the kind of racist abuse Özil got from a section of our so-called football fans in 2016.

Without any context: You know you must grasping at really thin straws, when resorting to whataboutisms like that.

How it's perceived actually matters very little, when that perception is based on a lack of understanding.

It's a song that, deep down, is about how England fans know that we simply don't win things, but that it's nice to dream.

The press is a funny one because similarly to the Brexit vote (which I think has definitely had an influence) there’s probably as many England fans that hate it as well as love it.

I agree on the booing of national anthems being in really poor taste.
