Leighton Baines

He's a good player but with Contreao and Shaw also options I think we'd be better of going for one of them.

I just wonder what glasses some fans wear when they watch the matches. Evra is continually trashed, yet he's been one of United's best players year in and year out. You can tell that SAF and Moyes both know that by seeing which players they have the hardest time sitting out a match.
That's a weird argument to use though when you consider Giggs, Valencia and Young.

So is was RVP. It does't really make a diffence 5 years is a long time. If we get that out of him im happy. We don't really need anymore players that can grow into the role. Our youth policy is good... I faith we could nurture a replacement in that time.

I'm prejudiced because Evra is my favorite player on the team, for one. I think he was very good last season, and I don't think he's been the reason we're leaking so many goals this season.

I also have high hopes for Fabio, and would like to see him given the chance to prove himself before we move for someone else.

But if we do go for someone else, I'd like someone with more pace, because with the way we use our attacking full-backs we often need them to make lung busting runs to get back on defense if an attack breaks down.

So spend another window chasing one of Daves ex players, while we have teams like Stoke running right through the middle of us unchallenged, LB is one of our smaller problems at the minute, hes really not that good a defender either, just a good attacker like we already have, he will also be 29 in a few weeks

Naw, like 3 apps, or something. I don't really know why, I just think it won't end up happening(regardless of how much sense it makes for everyone involved). If he doesn't get many more apps, I'd hope Moyes takes another tilt in January, though.

I'd like to think our interest was more than just last day desperation, but I get the feeling as well that Moyes is hellbent on bringing Baines in.

I'd be quite happy with Baines.

Moyes has no faith in Fabio, Evra can't play every game and Buttner is a defensive liability.

Shaw might be younger but Baines is a very good left back and amongst the best in the league in the position.

Unlike Fellaini I think you know what you are going to get week in week out with Baines as well.

27m for Fellaini, 15m for Baines, Everton probably can't believe their luck that we took Moyes off their hands.

baines would most probably end up as a good signing, even though we actually don't need him that much because of his age and patrice evra of course, but moyes should had never signed fellaini.

Baines is a quality Left-Back. I don't however understand this obsession with Baines unless Evra has decided to leave.

From what I've seen, and maybe SW will be able to comment on this, Baines has had a decidedly dodgy season defensively for me. I don't know whether that's down to Martinez' management, but it appears to me as if he's been caught out a little more often.

Obviously as an attacking threat he's still very worrying for the opposition.

I think that getting caught out is just because of Martinez' style. We have been seeing Coleman getting caught out in the same way, and he was one of the best full/wing backs at defending last season, saving our skin a few times. When he is faced with an opponent he has defended rather well, it's just getting caught out on the counter because of Martinez' philosophy that is a worry.

In general, i was thinking about Baines and the World Cup. Under Moyes at United he would probably be starting most games, even with Evra there, but with us he would be guaranteed to be playing every single game in a year where performing to his best would cement his place in the first team.

Why would Everton sell for 15m mid season after twice rejecting that bid already though?

He might have told them, he's not signing a new contract. And he only has this and next year left.

To be honest, i would take the risk of keeping him and trying to shift him in the summer as he could end up being worth valuable points in the second half of the season.

Just a question of whether Everton would drop their valuation by that much- from £20m or whatever it was to £15m just because 4-5 months less on his contract than before. Just feel like Everton will hold out for a king's ransom Daniel Levy style.

It's because Marcelo is better than him in every way. To be honest with you, I wouldn't mind Baines at all. We would get four seasons out of him and he would be a quality addition to the side. I really think Moyes has a great team philosophy, but lack of signings a problem.

As far as we know though chelsea are not In for him
I cant imagine cole going in the summer so ffs moyes make a bid before we spend the next decade wishing we had
Ashley Cole is 33 in December and you can't imagine Chelsea would want a replacement?

Right.

Everton's best player by a mile so far

looking defensively solid against an on form Spurs side

Not much of a compliment. Everton have been awful.

He's been ok at best. Townsend got the better of early on and his set pieces have been average

"You're just a shit Bradley Wiggins!"

Zaha was what, £15m? So The Sun are saying we're effectively offering £22m for a 29 year old left-back? Am I understanding that correctly?
