Leighton Baines

Far-fetched, but maybe Moyes wants to sign Baines to stop Chelsea getting their hands on one of the top 3 LBs in the league? Cole is 32 and not getting any younger.

Watching Cardiff City vs Everton right now and I must say Baines' set piece and the ability to deliver quick pin point cross alone is reason enough to go for him. He would add a tremendous new dimension to our attack with his crossing from the left. In today's match alone he put in so many beautiful crosses, its the sheer inability of Marallas and Jelavic that its still 0 0. Just imagine RVP, Rooney and Chicha attacking those crosses. Having watched Barca recently and Bayern yesterday, I must say neither Alba or Alaba are as good as Baines when it comes to crossing and they are considered among the best in the world.

He hasn't really been that good today. Put in a couple of decent crosses but plenty of poor ones as well.

I have the same opinion, not based on this match, but otherwise. he is worth it. completely.

They aren't better than Baines at crosses and it is very difficult to find other full backs who are as good as Baines at crossing. But both of them are better than Baines in all other aspects at the game (bar free kicks).

They are much better at dribbling and driving forward, something Evra is also good at but I feel Baines has better quick delivery and that will add so much to our team given our strike force.

Both of them are superior in general play than Baines. I think that they are better at defending too, and also they are faster than Baines. Alba is a cnut though, wouldn't like here even if it's a free transfer. Good player but he has become the player I hate most in recent months.

I hope we can get this one done.
I don't want to spend this season watching right footed out of position wingers trying to cross from the left or even paddy putting in those weak crosses from the left wing which basically neutralizes our good work from the left.

Our good work on the left almost always originates from Evra's powerful running and excellent footwork which is something Baines just doesn't possess.

I agree there's no pressing need for a 15m rated 29 yrs old left back as long as we still have Evra playing, I would rather we secure the long awaiting midfield signing first, then I don't mind us spending our surplus fund on the new back, be it 15m or 20m

Baines not possessing powerful running and excellent footwork? He's no Ronaldo but he's more than capable of going past people, it's one of the main parts of his attacking game!

I still see him as a no.1 candidate for replacing Evra when he starts to slow up.. No need for him right now but maybe in two years it's time to bring him in.

We won't be going for him when he's thirty. His ship has sailed, I reckon.

Baines would be a bit mad to sign a new contract, imo. Fair fecks if he does though.

Just got back from the England game, Baines played on the side of the stadium I was sat in .... I have NO IDEA WHATSOEVER why Moyes wants to sign him. He was pants.

Looked tiny, kept running away from the ball, and could 't make any passes. All the fans near me were taking the piss out of him! Seriously, whats all the hype about?

He crosses the ball brilliantly. Other than that, I would take Evra any day of the week.

If he thinks the United move is dead (you going after that Madrid full back) then this is probably his last chance to get a huge contract. Can't think of any other clubs who would want him that would be a step up from Everton.

Apparently, our two bids were 'well below' Evertons valuation. And obviously Baines didn't push for a move. In my opinion this raises two points:-
1. Everton vastly over value Baines
2. Baines has a lack of ambition.

And this.

I've been on about Baines' defensive positioning for awhile now but a lot of posters see what they want to see when it comes to him. Evra is better than Baines make no mistake about it. Fabio could be if given time to develop as Rafael was.

How ironic is that coming from someone who judges a player based on 45 minutes of footie?

I don't want us to sign Baines as I'd rather give Fabio a chance, or worst case, sign someone like Coentrao or Shaw if Moyes really wants to sign a lb but your post is just a bit OTT.

You judged him on 45 minutes? Clearly Baines is talented and EPL proven. He's been probably the best and most consistent lb over the past 2-3 seasons. That's why Moyes would be interested in signing him.

or maybe Baines isn't a cnut. Everton believed in him when no one did. They are cashed strapped while we are the richest franchise in football who keeps on blabbering of how many sponsors we have and how much profit we did. Would you blame the man for wanting more money in the pockets of those who believed in him in the first place and less money in that of the Glazers? We keep on complaining about greedy players and agents only for us to expect them to become first class backstabbers the day we need them to be like that.

What do you mean?

Before joining Everton, Baines was at Wigan and the only two clubs bidding for him were Sunderland and Everton. At Everton he gained confidence, he improved and became an English international.

So you think Baines didn't push to move here because he is Anti-Glazer?
