Leighton Baines

Could be mistaken but the few times i've seen him his main attributes are crossing and free kicks...if that is the case might be a worthwhile punt.

As Fergie said, his free kicks alone are worth £10m...oh wait was that was Adams!

Really? Comparing Cafu with Baines? Isn't that like comparing Henry with Berbatov?

Baines is quite slow for a fullback and struggles against fast, and strong, opponents. He isn't what we need! Good player though.

No you are right, we need feckin midfielders! If SAF spends on the defence again before sorting out the midfield, i will seriously start to fear for his sanity!

Considering that Fabio is going on loan, we also need LB.

There's something about Baines I don't like. He's probably been the best LB in the league for a couple of seasons at least but think he'd cost high teens at best.

It's probably his hair. Just who does he think he is, John Lennon?

He's been consistently one of the best left backs in the Premier League, he's English, he's at his peak, he's proven in the Premier League - what's not to like?

Well I think there are other parts of the team that require our attention more than the left-back, as well as his age. I would see it as a very Ashley Young-esque signing. A decent one, but not really "necessary" or what we need to elevate our team to another level

I'm not horribly opposed to the idea of him mind, I just think it would be a tragedy if we aren't looking at strenghtening other areas before we spend a portion of what is likely a very tight budget on him.

I wouldn't see it as a Ashley Young-esque signing. Young for a start wouldn't get into our first XI if everyone is fit, I think Baines would start ahead of Evra at this moment.

I do agree though there are other areas of more importance. Fergie says he wants to sign 2-3 players in the summer, I'm hoping 2 of them isn't Baines and Clyne.

Fellaini, Baines, Moses what the hell people? We are Man Utd. A team that challenges for honors. These are average players.

And please don't mention Rodwell.

His name sounds like a Berkshire town.

On the playing side, I'd be pleased to get him. Evra has declined somewhat, and if Fabio goes there will be nobody to present a challenge to him.

Re what lem8sh said about his odds on making the England squad. How do you find stuff like that?

But who do we have at LB? Evra, who is aging and who's form has arguably suffered in the lst 18 months, and then Evans? DeLaet? I completely agree that CM is a priority, but LB is also an area we really do need to strengthen.

Well Anderson has claimed that's his preferred position... hehe.

More Baines talk going around. Apparently SAF likes him a lot and was keen in January. Deal certainly seems to be on.

NO NO NO

overpriced and not that good.

SAF is tending to do a Kenny with his buy british policy.

This comparison is based on Jones, Smalling, Young plus a player we're only rumoured to be interested in vs Adam, Henderson, Downing, Carroll? You're brilliant.

Baines is a very good player in matches we dominate and need a goal - not that convinced about his abilities in matches we need to defend a lot.

But he will probably create or score 10 goals pr season...and his set-pieces are a lot better than anyone in our team

Don't see the point. He's too good to sit on the bench, and we're not going to bench Evra.

I think he's a very good left-back. I also think if we were going to buy him we'd have done so a couple of years ago. He'll be 28 this December and so could only ever be an expensive stop-gap.

These are dark days indeed for a United-supporting transfer muppet. Being linked to Leighton fecking Baines gave me an instant hard-on.

Something's very, very wrong.

Oh ffs. What a complete utter waste of money this would be.

Would certainly make sense. Evra is 32 now, Baines will come in and give him some cover and competition next season, Fabio will go on loan next season. By the time Fabio comes back, I doubt Evra will still be an automatic starter which would leave Fabio and Baines to compete for the left back spot.

I say, wait and see how Fabio's loan goes and decide next summer. No point spunking 13m quid or so on a player we may not need.

Complete waste of money.

Everton would surely screw us over on the price.

I'd echo the complete waste of money comments.

Lob it on a cheap young LB if we're going to buy one, well never bench Evra anyway.

Guys, you could consider the notion of Baines signing sensibly and thoughtfully - or you could face the reality, which is: We quite frankly need a bloody transfer fix!

My balls are exploding from the pressure after Hazardgate. We bloody need a new signing. I don't care if we sign Carlton Cole, we need someone.

I just want a new signing, is that too much to ask?
