His free kicks are another string to his bow. I'd have him for £10-12m. Thing is, like Spurs, Everton seem to always hold us to ransom.

Is Rooney not the only player we've signed from them in the last 20 years or so?

I'd have Baines ahead of Evra next season, possibly with some rest time he can get back to his former self but he is not getting any younger. I'm suprised by a lot of comments on here think people are playing down Baines because he is coming from Everton
Are we looking to sell Evra? Makes little sense to have two senior players(specialists no less) competing for the same position.
Really is that why you would sign anyone? Only if you are selling someone in that same position?
No, but we hardly need two established left-backs, do we? One established one one young one would do just fine.
So the websites are back on Baines again. Supposedly we are offering Park or one of the twins on a loan to sweeten the deal.
Personally I'm in favor of going for Baines as it would really strengthen the team.
Here are a few reasons in no particular order:
(1) Evra is too good for Fabio to get the playing time he needs.
(2) Then again, Evra's form has dipped, and he could use a good push.
(3) Baines takes a wonderful free kick
(4) He counts against the homegrown rule.
(5) Couldn't Baines or Evra be used as a right back in a pinch?
(6) You can never have enough left footed players.
No chance we're sending Rafael on-loan!
Decent, but given his age and lack of speed i'm not sure how he's THAT much better then Evra. We need a Jordi Alba to be quite honest. He's far more talented and at an age where even if we do end up investing 15 million it'll pay off because Evra will finally have some genuine competition for his position.
OK jordi alba might be better but are you sure he wants to come and would he choose us over barcelona?

He's Catalan, a Barca youth product and Barca are better then us.
I'm thinking "no".

Same here. So it's useless saying that Alba is better at the same price if we have no chance of signing him.
My impression is that people over here pass judgement on transfers assuming that in order to sign a player you only need to agree to pay the transfer fee requested. Other aspects like player preferences, club internal politics, relationship between the two clubs and the murky role of agent/s tend to be ignored - tbf perhaps because most of us dont have lot of info about that.
Didn't we GIVE them Darren Gibson. I think they owe us one.
Baines may actually be £20 million's worth to Everton, such is the contribution he makes to that team. We obviously shouldnt pay it though
6 million and Fabio on loan for 2 years would be a nice deal for all concerned.

I really don't rate him to be honest. He's decent enough but I don't think he belongs at a club like United. My view of him may be skewed by Stewart Downing mauling him towards the end of the season though.
I still don't understand why we don't just give Fabio more chances. I'd rather he gets games than spend money on someone like Baines. Alaba on the other hand...
All in all, I simply don't understand the Fabio loan thing
Baines is worth about 7mill maximum
