Good move, would allow us to send our young goalkeepers out on loan so that they can get experience.

If De Gea will be out for 4 months in September and Kovar/Fojticek will be on the bench then people will blame Mourinho :wenger:

Sssh, you’re not meant to talk sense in this forum! Mourinho is suppose to be the bad guy. How dare he not let the youth go out and gain experience by playing football. They’re meant to sit on the bench for the rest of their career!

Good signing. Did a job for Stoke a few years ago and actually impressed when Butland was out. Makes sense for the future of the young keepers.

I have zero issues with this. I prefer the likes of Pereira, Henderson and O'hara playing as first choice on loan to aid development.

Yep, sensible move I think. Especially as the u23s got relegated, so the level of football that the 3rd or 4th choice would be playing in is even worse than last season (and it was bad enough then). Probably better to use an u19 in the u23s (who can also then get extra games at u19 level if required).

feck sake. We should be looking to sign a RW and instead they are messing about bringing in another goal keeper when we already had two? Mou is ruining this team.

You see, a lot of our fan base have this blind hatred towards Jose that means he cannot do anything right. We could sign Messi on a free and people would complain about his salary being too high and that he’s keeping Martial out of the team. If you look at everything through the Jose = bad lens, it’s easy to argue against literally everything he does.

Maybe Romero's injury is worse than we have been led to believe. This is a just in case signing.

Eric Steele went to Derby after Moyes got rid of him, and he raved about Lee Grant when he was there, this coming from the same man who scouted De Gea. I'll take that.

He was a solid deputy for Butland when he was injured, won their Player of the Year award - just to diffuse the cries of "game raising cnut" as he was lambasted after the game at OT, as he was very good for them over the course of that season, and not just that one game that everyone saw.

Grant was excellent at Sheffield Wednesday too, and played for England at every youth level. He was tipped for a PL move back then, Aston Villa IIRC, but instead, Brian Laws took him to Burnley as a backup to Jensen. He ousted Jensen as the #1, who was an excellent keeper himself and a fan favourite.

If he's coming as 3rd choice and we send the young keepers out on loan, then I don't see an issue. He'll be cheap, and if he's happy to be a backup to the backup, then what's the problem? De Gea, Romero and Grant is a pretty solid squad of keepers.

I always did that on FM :P It actually makes sense. So far I like what Jose had done with them: Last year 6 months each loan, and 6 months training with the first squad. Now send them a year to farm.

No issue with this, we always need a 3rd keeper in case disaster strikes. Grant will be happy to be 3rd choice and our young 'uns can go on loan.

Ideal situation, Pereira has a belting season on loan.

A good deal could be a free transfer with Pereira or Henderson sent to Stoke on loan to cover their goalkeeping siutuation if/when butland leaves

Not overly bothered but why does a team need more than 2 keepers anyway.

De Gea plays the majority of matches, in case of injury which is highly unlikely Romero is a capable back up for matches so when the hell would grant even play.
I can't remember us ever needing them (besides to sit on the bench), but there have been a handful of times where teams have been down to their third choice. If either De Gea or Romero were to suffer a significant injury, we'd be entirely reliant on the other to never pick up a knock or a suspension (while playing every single game). We may well need that extra bit of cover if all three of our young upcoming keepers are going out on loan.

98% chance that he'd never end up playing a single game, but it's better to be prepared for that 2% chance just in case it happens.

Talk about a boner killer. MEN should have led with 'Huge United Transfer Update' headline and watched the muppets boil once they'd seen the story.

However:

This makes sense. It's so hard to know what to do with young keepers who have almost no chance of regular senior football but on balance you'd rather they got senior minutes under their belt just about anywhere.

Fred and Grant signed in 1 window. Players with the most exotic and exciting names possible!:lol:

this thread is so weird. i can't differentiate between who is serious and who is joking.

good signing that will allow us to send our young keepers out on loan

He’s a decent enough keeper, especially since he’ll likely never need to play anyway.

Happy with this.

Conspiracy theory, De Gea leaving, Romero 1st choice we need an experienced back up/Cup goalie.....

What a rubbish summer this is turning to be.

Joking aside are you in for any new GK?

Gone quiet. Could have a surprise like Fabinho or end up with Karius starting the new season. I'm praying for the surprise obviously.

So called reliable Twitter sources don't usually know shit (see Fabinho)

I've been a fan of his ever since I knew the deal was happening.

Lee Grant? Oscar winning actress. Brilliant in Shampoo.

92 seems a bit old though

An older keeper on a free to let the talented young keepers go on loan sounds fine.

When that keeper had one of the best goalkeeping displays at Old Trafford in recent memory it's surely a good thing?
