Lee Grant

Smashing bit of business this, getting Fellaini signed on a new deal has freed up some funds for us to nab Granty.

The right decision to bring in someone like Grant because....

A) J.Pereira, Henderson (He already has a loan move) & O'Hara must play next season and Johnstone will surely leave the club (Another loan would be pointless).

B) Kovar and Fojticek aren't ready for the role as 3rd goalkeeper.

If there’s even a single person that can get annoyed about us signing a 3rd choice keeper who has played over 20 PL games in the previous season and won’t moan about not playing, thus allowing us to loan out our young keepers to bring them on, then they’re a massive weirdo.

Signing a solid-ish, homegrown keeper and seeing where the likes of Henderson and Pereira end up after a season of first team football is utterly logical. The quality of experience gained by being a no. 1 elsewhere will far outweigh training with the first team at United and sitting on the bench in a few cup games. Young goalkeepers, more than anything, need games.

Pereira and Henderson must be going out on loan, so I guess this transfer makes sense. A short term contract for an older, experienced third choice seems logical.

Not overly bothered but why does a team need more than 2 keepers anyway.

De Gea plays the majority of matches, in case of injury which is highly unlikely Romero is a capable back up for matches so when the hell would grant even play.

Hopefully it's just his agent trying to drum up interest for his client or get him a nice new contract. I mean, what works for Ronaldo, Neymar, Umtitti and Ramos, should work for Lee Grant, surely?

Grant is the keeper who made about 20 saves v us in 16/17 at OT. While De Gea made a silly error that day mixing up with the defence. Mourinho gets stick but we've upgraded the GK position ;)

Aye, it'd make perfect sense really. Can't expect posters to see common sense though.

Henderson was only signing if he was going to be loaned and Joel likely feels a similar way, he's wasting his time never playing. 3rd choice keeper is basically a waste of time and no young keeper with ambition will be settling for it.

Feels like a Chelsea/Man City kind of signing in the vein of Hilario,Richard Wright & Stuart Taylor. I’ve always know us to have a youngster as our 3rd choice or have we had made a signing like this before? An intentional 3rd choice keeper who won’t play? I know we had Carroll, Taibi etc but they were bought with number 1 in mind I think.

Oh well, can’t really complain if the young keepers benefit with a loan deal.

You can't really argue with this. He'll come, probably won't play a single game but when he was needed by Stoke I thought he looked alright.

Are we now planning on paying 2 goalkeepers? Who needs a right wing?

We would have something, no other team in the world has.

I can't remember us ever needing 3 goalkeepers in a season. We had de Gea, Romero and Valdes a couple of seasons ago and it was pointless. I reckon we could've loaned out our young goalies without needing another experienced one.

My wish is GRANTed!!! Seriously though, check me into the 'Who Cares Hotel'. The kit man's more likely to get a game.

Remind me never to recommend you as a risk manager.

This is like 2001 when we signed Roy Carroll from Wigan to compete with Barthez and Van Der Gouw

If De Gea will be out for 4 months in September and Kovar/Fojticek will be on the bench then people will blame Mourinho :wenger:

Trust the youth!!1!1! Mourinho ruined Kovar!!11! Why didnt we sign Oblak!!1!!

Why not just sign O'Shea for 3rd choice GK if we aren't going to trust the youth team? I thought that Joel kid was decent...maybe I'm wrong.

mou investing on his version of local youth players
