feck she's irritating. I love me some Parks and Rec, but it'd be better if she wasn't on it... she's not even attractive to sort of balance it out (like Robyn in HIMYM for example)

Wha'? She's hot and most people who watch the show like her. She's pretty damn funny for a girl.

Really?? Is this a widely held opinion? She just seems really bland to me...

I get that her character is the opposite of Leslie's, and she just doesn't give a shit... but meh, I don't think I've laughed at any of her lines.
 
She's good. I like her and Andy.

Robyn is just ok. She's gotten less attractive though.

Hmmmm I did not hate Skyler in S1 at all, not even that much in S2. Only in S3 for me. But if this has started so soon for you then you will be banging your head against the wall in coming seasons...
 
Kinell people. Skyler is a great character. If she were different the show would be rubbish.

Some seem to be judging characters on the same basis they would judge friends and acquaintances.

Yea. It's like the hate on Lisa Simpson. You need these characters to balance the characters and give the show a reality check so people can relate. Otherwise TV would just be like Looney Tunes.
 
Not really, and I've mentioned that people do judge them like that before....but she's just...well a bad character, or at least not very good, when shes on the screen, I usually nothing...which is a clear sign somethings wrong since I'm supposed to feel something for these characters, be it hate/love/pity whatever, but her, nothing.

It's not like she's Edie Falco and being amazing as the nagging housewife either, Carmelo is a fecking excellent character. Same with the son btw, they could actually make me feel stuff for it, but they don't really bother with it, so I'll let him off, he's mostly just a character thats there, maybe they'll use him a bit more in the fifth series.
 
She strikes me as real and as such not perfect.

The characters in The Sopranos are all stereotypes yet people love them. Go figure.

I dont think many of the ones saying they hate Skyler mean that they think shes a poor character. Its possible to be a great character for the show as a whole and still be a character you dislike. I dont like Skyler very much, because she is a total bitch at times, especially in the earlier seasons, but I appreciate her character as part of the show as a whole.

She gets less annoying in season 3 and 4 anyway Season 2 is the worst.

Another similar example is Commodus in The Gladiator. I think many would say they really hated him, but hes still an excellent character.
