Leandro Paredes

He isn't a key player though. De Rossi, Strootman and Nainggolan plays for them in midfield and they have just loaned Clement Grenier.

Isn't Grenier one of the names usually put forward as potential Carrick replacement? Weird that his team would loan him mid season if he was that good.

Just see that it's a loan with a buy option. This whole thing feel weird.

OMG what a performance. That's an unbelievable quality. The threaded passes between the lines were sublime as well as the quarter back spraying to the wings all played accurately and with the right weight. And he's a set piece specialist on both direct and indirect free kicks as well as corners which as you may remember I created a thread on pointing put our need for this. He would function fantastic in a counter attacking side like Leicester. Got any example games of him playing around the box of a packed parked bus defense? What's his pressing, tackling and intercepting like? But just on what I just saw 30m is peanuts, that's a generational talent in passing.

Heading to youtube...
I read this in caps lock for some reason.

He's a hipster favourite. I personally think he should stay in Serie A or move to La Liga though.

Those leagues are more suited for his qualities & he'll be more appreciated there.

I really don't think we'll sign this type of player. For the most part Carrick wasn't even in Mourinho's first choice plans at the start of the season but gradually bought him in. Sure, he sees the importance of him now but when he has the ability to chop and change his side in the summer I don't think we'll be looking for another deep-lying playmaker type of CM.

Yeah, and our last Serie A signing looks awful too

Well....

Importance of that kind of player is truly overstated, no need to replace him with the same kind of a player, think Jose will go for someone more powerful who can also win the ball back, so Ander can move little further up the pitch an move the ball quickly in the final third and we can win the ball quickly high up the pitch too and the overall transition is quicker

He'd suit us a lot more than he would suit Liverpool. He's fantastic at bypassing the press.

In all fairness pressing game in Calcio isn't really as relentless as it is here.

EDIT: By here i mean there, in EPL.

He seems to have a Pirlo vibe about him. Exceptional passing, press-resistant and great technical abilities. He's not very physical, but he is still good defensively. His positioning is excellent and he is decent at tackling.

What I like about him is his ability to pass in tight situations which is what he'll come against in the Premiership. He could be better than Carrick in a few years time. I've always rated him and he would be a much better player to consider than Bakayoko.

According to me Paredes is not at "Man United level". He is still not at "Roma level" (he usually starts from the bench)

I don't rate Paredes very high, he often "sleeps" for some period in the match.

but I can not exclude that Paredes will become a great player.

Di Marzio says 30 mln ? Roma wil sell him for less, 20 are enough

Few Italian sources (including their Sky) say he's close to Zenit... one of top targets of Mancini.

I really rate this guy and think he could do better than Russian league. Still 22 too!

I don't get how this guy can just slip past every big club and somehow end up at Zenit.

He is clearly very talented and just need the chance to play more regularly. Wish we would take a punt on him.

I also think he would be a good addition and he should be available for ~30M EUR, which is more than decent price in this market. Still very young and quite a few times I saw him in Serie A he looked really promising

Argentine, check. Midfielder, check. Plays in Rome, check. Next Veron?

Totally different player and I am probably generalising as he is Argentinian and at Roma, but he seems to be getting overhyped a lot like Lamela that went to Spurs. Both good players with good potential but at the same time there are lots of players even in the Argentinian sides better than both and similar ages.

Find it strange how so many seem to think we should sign him as a Carrick replacement, fact is he can't even break into Roma's first 11 on a regular basis.

Only Rome fan I've seen on the Caf was largely underwhelmed by him and couldn't understand the fuss.

So you've been swayed by this one Roma fan?

That's like reading one positive post about Rooney and accepting it as reality.

Did you ever consider that Roma have an excellent array of midfield talent? Strootman, De Rossi and Nainggolan. And Pjanić the season before.

I mean, I don't really like the phrase much at all, but he's definitely a bit of a hipster fave.

I never realised he was so young (1994). Zenit is a strange move, but time is definitely on his side still. Particularly if he is player who plays the revered 'Carrick role'.

I choose to listen to a fan that most likely has watched all of Roma's matches compared to guys on the internet that heard the name thrown around and then watched a YouTube compilation, yes.

Paredes is a DM\DLP, his competition from the names you mentioned would be De Rossi, while Strootman and Nainggolan play b2b and Pjanic play more advanced.

I bet I watch as many as the next guy.

Paredes is a multifunctional player like Kroos and Verratti. There aren't many players in the game who posses the ability to sit and dictate the play. His potential is huge. It's up to him to build on the good work he's put in over the past 2 seasons. Going to Zenit for financial reasons isn't a move in the right direction.

Let me point you to wr8's posts with that logic, you will be delighted to see this new guy we have playing for us. The white pele as he is known as in certain circles.

Roma have a couple of very decent midfielders

They do indeed.

Anyways, the Carrick replacement DM\DLP we sign will be a very vital cog for us from the get-go, especially considering we got the CL coming up and we'll get murdered without a proper DM.

Someone not being the undisputed first choice for Roma probably won't be that cog for us.

This guy would be a punt more than anything, and we're not exactly in the position to take punts.

Would he really be released by Roma for a relatively modest fee to Zenit of all clubs if he was the bees knees? And wouldn't more clubs be in for him at that price?

I don't think we'll replace like for like, seems like less of a necessity with the lack of true wingers that huh the touchline. Plus, it's hard to find one like him.

At the prices being mentioned in the media, I would be very interested in Paredes. I think he will be a player in the future that many clubs look at and think 'why weren't we in for him in 2017?'

Offers more value and potential than Matic and Dier, more positional discipline than Fabinho (and he'd rather play RB anyway). Just doesn't have the experience that mourinho clearly needs with our youthful new centre back partnership.

He does a very good highlight reel, but I don't think he was as good as some people made out. 100% better than Zenit though.

Linked to Napoli to replace Jorginho. Why aren't we looking at him?

He narrowly missed out on the Argentina squad despite impressing in the handful of caps he's had. I wanted him last year, and I have a feeling he'll be in demand again next summer if he moves to a top league and gets plenty of games.

Because we don't want him, that's why.

Not really a fan tbh, have yet to impressed anytime I've watched him for PSG
