Paredes gathering interest from Premier League clubs: Roma value him at over 25 million Euro

With Grenier joining the ranks at Roma, the club is now working on slimming down the roster. Leandro Paredes is one of the most desired names, especially in the Premier League. Official bids are yet to come for the Argentine, but Roma value the player at 25 million Euro plus an extra 5 from Bonuses. The next step will be seeing whether or not offers will come close to these demands, or close enough to convince Roma.

Think this guy would be a steal for 30m. Would solve the Carrick replacement problem.

This video gives a good impression of his playing style:

Saw that article on adidas Marzio yesterday and thought he'd be interesting for us, it not heard a single link.

If he's that good why are they actively trying to sell him? If he was that good they'd be doing the Strootman on us!

Looks the part in the video. Although he did seem to be given a lot of time on the ball

OMG what a performance. That's an unbelievable quality. The threaded passes between the lines were sublime as well as the quarter back spraying to the wings all played accurately and with the right weight. And he's a set piece specialist on both direct and indirect free kicks as well as corners which as you may remember I created a thread on pointing put our need for this. He would function fantastic in a counter attacking side like Leicester. Got any example games of him playing around the box of a packed parked bus defense? What's his pressing, tackling and intercepting like? But just on what I just saw 30m is peanuts, that's a generational talent in passing.

Heading to youtube...

Based on the first 56 seconds of that video I wouldn't buy anyone playing in that league. Pre-season friendly pace and no tackling does not prepare a player for THE ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE. What the has happened to Italian football?

You make THE ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE sound so dam mighty, I want to be THE ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE now dude.

You are a "now dude". We are all "now dudes". One of the great advantages of human consciousness over that of, say, Stoke City supporters is that we are all now dudes.

Can't remember the thread, but @Invictus wrote a lengthy post about him a few weeks ago. Would be good to post that here. Had a nice vid aswell showing his touches and turns to create space.

The video is slightly deceptive in that while he's offered time and space on the ball given the slower overall rhythm of the game in the Serie A, one of Paredes' biggest qualities is press resistance - he has a really advanced sense for the positioning of both team-mates, and opposition players - and can often effortlessly evade pressure by even multiple players because he's continuously scanning the field, adjusts his body, and has the short agility burst to maneuver himself out of trouble.

It is in these moments that a press resistant player will take them out of pressure and orchestrate the next move. Pep Guardiola would do this for Cruyff in his dream team. Today, a bunch of players fit this criteria across various leagues, Busquets in La Liga, Julian Weigl and Thiago Alcantara in the Bundesliga, Leandro Paredes in Italian Serie A, Marco Verratti in Ligue 1 and Paul Pogba in the Premier League to name a few.
Link.

Younger players tend to be more adaptable, and once he's rewired to the pace of the Premier League, Paredes has all the tools to be a really good Carrick replacement given his technique on the ball, improving defensive awareness (he's an attacking midfielder to #6 convert), and overall appreciation for what's unfolding on the field. Probably the best long term replacement for Carrick after Weigl (who will be harder to extract out of Dortmund).

Ah, yes - this video highlights a greater variety of passes:

Good example of how he fares against pressing EPL style. Seemed to handle it well enough and still played some lovely forward passes. Almost hope we get Roma in the EL just so I can watch him play.

At 25-30 million euros he's exactly the sort of punt signing I'd want us to be making right now IMO. We'll still need more bodies in midfield and other positions in the summer, might aswell sign someone now and take some of the pressure off.

Surprised to see no assists and only one goal. A little concerning even if he is a #6 as he takes the set pieces and with his skill should really have more than this. But that pass forward percentage is amazing.

Looks like my kind of player: skilful and evasive but likes a tackle which, if he can do to the required level, is just what we need.

Looks fantastic, despite it being a youtube video I think he would be a great signing.

Only thing is, is he would probably need a while to adjust to the league so we would need to keep Carrick just for a little while longer so that he can learn under Carrick.

Looks good and if he's only 22 that's a good young age to be picking up long term options. I don't know how well he would adjust to the premier league though that match looked ridiculously slow.
If we haven't been linked to him though then it's pointless debate for now.

EPL different kettle of fish. he'd have to pass 4 times quicker than he does now, but suppose someone our scouts will be watching.

Seems to be @Invictus favorite, probably worth a punt :p
On a serious note, it doesn't seem that Weigl will move in the summer and we need Carrick's replacement asap. The guy looks class and reminds me of Verratti when he played in Serie B (godawful league), and despite the league looked like a potential world-beater

Doesn't look like the sort of player Jose would want. Think Bakayoko seems much more likely IMO.

Bakayoko doesn't play the same position, we'd basically have two Ander's and Pogba in there, no one to pass and orchestrate the game, just lots of running around.

I don't believe Jose want's to play a 4-3-3 anyway. Think he see's the 4-2-3-1 with 2 athletic midfielders and a goalscoring 10 the way to go.

Signed him for £22m on FM17 and sold him 2 years later to PSG for £58m. Let's get him.

Don't let these videos fool you, he would exactly be the same case as Darmian.

If Jose thinks he can field a 2 man midfield of Bakayoko and Pogba he's learned nothing from this season and we'll be in trouble, I can't believe that he doesn't realize Pogba needs to be in a 3 as he doesn't have the discipline or engine for a 2 and needs a worker and a conductor with him to be at his best.

I think we can get away with it against a lot of the lower teams, we just need to get the ball forward a lot faster. We managed it fine with Fergie, we can do it now.

Against the bigger teams though maybe he will adapt. Who really knows, but that's how I envisage Griezmann if we do sign him.

Not really, it wont take teams long to figure out you can get to Pogba in a 2, it's a glaring weakness. To be honest I'd rather not sign Griezmann if it means going to a 2 man midfield.

At least those videos show he can pass really well and not afraid to put on tackles. I still think that Mou will want a more physical DMC than him.

His ball control and dribbling in tight spaces looks exemplary too. Paredes is only 22 so he has plenty of time to fill out his frame. No reason he cant pack on some muscle like Mkhitaryan after arriving here.

This is really looking into the future now but if he fulfilled his potential here, it could really open up the South American market for us. Pretty handsome too so would be a marketer's dream.(No homo)

Weird. How come Roma is looking to sell their key player? And the quote price is ridiculous (cheap) for his talent. For once, I doubt Di Marzio on this.

He isn't a key player though. De Rossi, Strootman and Nainggolan plays for them in midfield and they have just loaned Clement Grenier.

Weird. Every time I can tune in for Roma game, I saw him starting and play very well.
