Leander Dendoncker

Lets be fair, he does have the best name in football.

Leander sounds like a wonderful past time ("Oh I'm just off for a spot of Leandering") and as said before, Dendoncker sounds like an insult, you massive Dendoncker

Make it happen Woody.
 It's a good name. Leander was someone in Greek mythology, and was used as the name of a Royal Navy warship during ww2.

Dendoncker just sounds powerful somehow, and sort of like an insult.

His nickname Robocop isn't bad either :D

I'd say all this makes him worth a punt!

He'd be an excellent signing, he has all the attributes to make it as a top midfielder. He reminds me a lot of Xabi Alonso.

I'm glad we're taking a close look at him, he could be a good Carrick replacement.

He was brilliant against us I remember watching him thinking he was very good and in a position we need too.

Reminds me of Herrera and when he dominated us. I'd take a punt on him for sure

The two-footed long passing in the vid really reminds me of Carrick actually. Would be great to have someone in deep positions looking to spread the play wide.

If this kid is any good, then this is the kind of signing you snap up, especially at £30M (which is cheap in this crazy market). Even if he takes a little time to settle in, it'll be worth it imho as prices will keep going up. Next season, a signing like this might cost a ridiculous £60 - £70M.

I imagine that if we wanted this kid we would have signed him a month ago.

He was really good against us tbf, but i can't claim to know any more about him. Doubt there's anything in this though because he didn't exactly seem to be a defensive minded player in those games and that is surely what we are after.

I imagine he is 3rd choice, as he would be a gamble for Mourinho compared to Matic or Dier. So I think we would rather sign other players, but he's an option if all else fails.

If we were ever going to sign a prospect for the carrick position it would surely be while carrick is still around so they can rotate and we can try and play him into some form rather than just chucking him in after carrick retires. He was great against us (we were quite poor though) That's all I've seen of him. Looks like a decent option and much more exciting than matic. He's got a rocket of a shot and is two footed. Do we even take 'punts' anymore? I think Fergie would have been much more tempted by the types of player Leipzig, Monaco, Dortmund etc are signing and blending them in over a season or two than the last few managers have been. I think this lad will be attracting those types of clubs very soon if he keeps playing well and then he'll be a £55 million player without having done much at all. Where's the fun in that?

He looks very promising but will need some time to bed in to the tempo and physicality of the EPL. We were rubbish when we played them so I don't think we should use that as a yardstick but he looks like he has the qualities we need to replace Carrick long term. He is mobile, can pass, two footed, can tackle and seems like an intellegent players too. He is young too so we can give him time to learn from Carrick.

Sign him and Matic and sell the big guy who cant pass a god damn ball

Would be awesome to go for a young relatively unknown cdm instead of Dier/Matic. Sort of like the Martial transfer from Monaco.

This signing is a no brainier.

He can offer exactly what Mourinho likes in Matić, Fellaini and McTominay, but also has good technical ability to match his athleticism.

22 and hungry to develop further. He'd be perfect.

We were excellent.

Dendonker's late goal robbed us and highlighted another showing of our profligacy in front of goal. Tie should have been over by then.

I have no clue if he's any good but for some reason signings like these (young players, not well known) excite me more than someone like Matic who is probably the better player!

I'd like to see us take a punt on a player like Dendoncker. You can't get proven players for reasonable prices anymore so I actually think I'd like us to take a risk. I think we could get him for £25m or maybe even £20m. He was excellent in both games against us last season. I did see a couple other Anderlecht games last season also (mostly to monitor Tielemans) and he seemed to do well in all of them. Seems the right height and strong enough to deal with the Premier League. Could end up being seen as a great bargain signing if it does happen

Looks a great prospect, I would certainly sign him but we still need experience as well.

Dendoncker would be a fine addition. I think we should take a punt with him but then that would stifle the progress of Pereira and TFM. TFM is more likely to be converted to a RB and I don't see Mourinho taking him to be midfielder. Pereira on the other hand could be used as a CM in different roles. Dendoncker seems to have the passing range and he's good aerially and can also show up in the final third and score a goal or two. He seems more of a Herrera sort of a player than Carrick who we are trying to replace.

Don't think we could rely on Pereira for dm. Jose clearly doesn't trust TFM there either. We definitely need a dm no matter what

With Aliou Traore looking like a great bet in defensive midfield for us in 2 or 3 seasons then the smart money would be us signing Matic with a view to replacing him with Traore in a few seasons

Thought you were joking until I saw your later reply

I guess the reports I was reading about him being a defensive midfielder were false. Is he a winger or something? Does he even exist? :D

All I saw were endless reports about us signing a french future captain defensive midfielder so I guess I am missing something here. My bad.

Don't shoot me here but from the highlights he seems to have abit of Carrick and Gerrard about his style. Definitely doesn't have much pace the same as Carrick but can pick a pass and speed play up. Also has the height and a good strike on him like Gerrard.

I'd say at this point I have it like....

Fabinho>Dendonker>Dier>Matic

Mate he's only 16 and has only played for PSG's u16/18s as far as I know. Way too early to judge. I've heard good things about him and Arnau Puigmal who we also signed but no way is Jose or anyone at the club thinking of either as a replacement for anyone yet. The position of players at that age can easily change depending on how their body continues to grow. Young players are signed for our academy every year. He's not a prodigy like Rooney, Messi, or Fabregas if that's what you think. We'll see how he develops over the next few seasons with the u18s.

He did well in the games vs us and fits the Mourinho physical profile, but is this story based purely off a United scout going to the Anderlecht vs Antwerp?

How is Matic worse than the rest? Worse than Dendoncker just because you decided Dendoncker resembled Carrick in making some passes and Gerrard in his height? Seriously, Matic is a PL winner and got 7 assists last season. Please.:wenger:

Pertinently, going by the papers, it would seem that Mourinho has the order you cited in reverse.

To be fair, he asked for not getting shot for expressing his views :p
