Television Last Week Tonight with John Oliver

The Nile thing was classic :lol:

It was the 1st time that joke didn't work for me, I knew it was off.
Usually my geography isn't good enough for those but I know Egypt is near the Middle East.

it was more funnier because it was completely unexpected from the kid. :p. That kid did it well to make me laugh :p

Loved that, "that's not even the Nile, this is the Nile"

the whole segment with the kids were hilarious. The kid shouting at the imaginary younger brother, the kid who is scared of girls and stuff. Classic

I didn't especially enjoy this episode because I don't really care, at all, about the main topic, and I'll have forgotten it quite quickly, but it was still very well done and just for that video of the two guys doing the meeting in an empty room and actually taking questions from the non existent audience, it was worth it.

Yeah, same. Though I do like how he acknowledged the amount of people that probably tuned out cause of the Drumpf segment and then tuned back out cause of this main topic

Raelly? I thought it was very interesting... that's what I like about Oliver - he can take something you had no idea existed and make it funny, interesting and appalling all at the same time.

Oh yeah he made it interesting ultimately, it was just a very random topic and not one that resonates with me (I mean, special districts are never going to have any impact whatsoever on my life, it's a very distant matter for me). The writing and delivery was excellent as usual, but it's an episode I'll have forgotten about quite quickly, I think, whereas when he makes a whole segment about Trump (which is something I'm really interested in), obviously it works better for me.

Maybe saying 'I didn't especially enjoy it' was a bit too strong, I did enjoy it. Just a bit of a 'nothing' episode for me.

It was very funny, I agree, but the topic wasn't interesting to me. It was definitely worth it for the video of the two guys and the kids segment, though. So yeah, I agree that he does make this stuff much better than it should be.

I hope he does a segment on French people and how you're the absolute worst.

Ultimately it's a US topical show, so there's going to be a lot of stuff that doesn't particularly resonate with a UK (or froggy) audience.

He still makes these things interesting though.

The Apple ad was amazing 'we gave you a U2 album. You know, the one you've been trying to delete but keeps reappearing '

Not as good as Special Districts and Drumpf, but still decent, but too much focus on the Apple Case. But this episode made more relevant points, so I still like it, but lacked on the comedic front.

I really enjoyed that as its been something ive been discussing with people and trying to debate with regards to security vs privacy. It really could be opening a pandoras box if Apple lose their case in court.

Was the Drumpft one your introduction to the show?

No, I had seen some random episodes (if you can call them episodes) from the first season. Maybe it was my bad luck, but the one's I saw were very underwhelming and not funny at all. So I sort of gave up on it, until the Drumpf one pulled me back in.

Fair enough; I just wondered as I can imagine that episode pulled in a lot of new viewers who saw the video on YouTube.

It was definitely a highlight ep, as it obviously appealed to very wide audience.

You should check out the Edward Snowden episode, that was another very good one, although to be honest I've enjoyed them all.

I think most episodes will be underwhelming compared to te drumpf episode. Last season too there were episodes that may not have been as good (I think the infrastructure episode or the Mother's Day episode). There were brilliant ones like the patent or the FIFA one the torture, refugees or the snowden one like @Rado_N said

Overall as said above its a US show so some episodes will be irrelevant for us. But I have liked most episodes

Thanks Rado. I will watch the earlier one's.
