Lassana Diarra

How come Song isn't playing in your midfield? At Charlton he looked a proper midfielder, he was passing the ball brilliantly as well as the running around a lot

He is and he's not a bad player but he's not a very good complement to Fabregas being too slow and lacking 90-minute stamina.

I'm sure he'll be able to work on the stamina, and he's not that slow.

He'd be your first choice centre mid this season no doubt.

Yeah but back in the real world he's a very ordinary player not worth £9M let alone 24.

He's worth £9m, it doesn't buy you a class player nowadays, a little more than an ordinary player is what you get for that amount.

Portsmouth have confirmed they have accepted a bid from Real Madrid for Lassana Diarra.

As revealed by skysports.com earlier this week, Real made a move for Diarra as new boss Juande Ramos looks to bolster his squad in the transfer window.

Portsmouth have now accepted an undisclosed fee for the talented Frenchman and Diarra has been given permission to talk to the Spanish giants.

"We have always said that we would only allow our players to leave if we received an exceptional bid," a Portsmouth spokesman told the club's official website.

"We could not stand in the way of a move such as this for Lassana.

"It shows how far the club has come under the ownership of Alexandre Gaydamak when Real Madrid come in for one of our players.

"Should the deal be completed, the club has already identified possible replacements."

Diarra is now set to travel to the Spanish capital to hold talks and undergo a medical ahead of a move to El Santiago Bernabeu when the transfer window reopens in January.

I don't think you can improve it radically - I think you're going to have the same problem with Anderson, who is another very powerful player but with the wrong physiology to last out 90 minurtes.

I have to say I think it's very possible for them both to be able to get their stamina levels up to the required levels, definitely.

It will be his fourth club in two and a half years.

However, it will be the third big one. Not many players can boast of having played for Arsenal, Chelsea and Real Madrid at the age of 23 or whatever his young age is.

He will probably play for Barcelona, Inter and Milan at some point as well. Bayern too. And Lyon.

If that's his aim before he ends his career, hes done well.

If he can cut down on the partying and stay sober, i have no doubt that he can last even 120 min. He has an amazing physique for someone his age, no reason why he can't optimize his energy levels (unless he's roiding, which i doubt).

As for Diarra, I have no idea why Arsenal got him and then just let him go. Say what you want about him, but the guy is a France international regular, so obviously there is some quality in him and I think he will shine in Spain.

Basically you've got guys built to run 100m and they're trying to do 10K plus.

Seems a bit of an exaggeration Pete, although I do agree their fitness levels clearly aren't up to scratch yet.

But Anderson's definitely made a noticeable improvement in that department this season so I see no reason why Diarra can't either.

Diarra reminds me a certian young and talented french man who moved as much as Diarra and then wasted his potential. Yes, i am talking about Anelka.

Well, he didn't have a chance to be a regular at Chelsea so he moved to Arsenal. He found out he wasn't first choice there either so he moved to Portsmouth, where he was definitely going to be a first-teamer. Cannot blame him for choosing Real Madrid over Portsmouth either

Yh and he would be a first teamer at Real Madrid

It's not fitness it's genetics (fast and slow twitch muscles - we beat this to death a couple of years back).

Ah, right.

Can't really comment on anything about it then, other than reiterating that Anderson has shown definite improvement in his capability to last the whole match.

Boy his agent must love him, just think of all those juicy fees that'll come his way!

feck all in loyalty bonuses though. And a lot of the signing-on fees are spread over the course of the contract, so if you leave before your contract has expired, you may not get any/some of it.

I'd still say he's not stuck for money to buy bread and butter though.

So Anderson and Diarra are two of a kind?

There are a lot of players with similar physique that have no trouble lasting the 90 minutes. It's an individual thing they have to tackle.

It was originally Song we were talking about not Diarra. You can't really tell what the genetic makeup of an individual is like just by looking at them - both Anderson and Song seems not to last more than about 70 minutes of a hard-run match in midfield this, together with heavy musculature, suggests they are explosive rather than endurance athletes. Wenger has resisted playing Kolo Toure in midfield, though many good judges think he would be ideal, for precisely that reason.

Never understood the amount of intrest Diarra gets tbh, he's never done anything special where ever he has been and yet he has a list of clubs after him every transfer window. Funny how nobody ever tries to hard to keep hold of him.

Wenger let him go because he's a bit of a twat.

He refused to play in an FA Cup match against Burnley.

It has everything to do with his attitude and nothing to do with his ability.

You can't really make accurate judgements about worth, there's so many ways of looking at it.

Is he worth 4 times as much as Evra? No chance.

Is he worth £3m more than Bentley? Definitely.

Upon the advice of his father Makalele he has gone to Real Madrid
