Las Vegas Monopoly Draft

Actually sounds good and we wouldn't have to worry about having a set figure of teams then either to make it work as a tournament.

Makes me wonder whether we should scrap the tournament altogether in the future drafts and just do a ranking card like they do on other forums and declare a winner. Think a lot of us especially the older ones have lost quite a bit of interest in the match arguments.
Yeah it's an interesting idea. To be honest though when I've spun through draft threads on other forums, it looks horribly anti-climactic. How we continue to improve the match threads is key though. I know what you mean about some of the dynamics because, after 32 drafts, they get somewhat repetitive. Again that's why I thought Joga's remake draft was so successful because it introduced a new match thread dynamic. But in fairness the matches do evolve as there's been plenty of evaluation and improvement going on.

Even in this draft format, messi Pele and maradona still went consecutively haha.

Thought about it. The rankings require people being honest though ;) You could have non-participating draft junkies ranking though.

I think this one will wind up with some real car crashes or at least completely pointless games. I'd suggest ranking top 8 and letting them battle it out or some managers simply conceding a walkover so we don't have pointless threads running for 24 hours.

Even if people don't like the idea of using the ranking to determine the final result we could still have unlimited managers. Rank all the teams and then the top 16 play the actual matches.

Yeah, being the first draft I kept the criteria open for many boxes. Can be run again with a more restricted criteria/theme too.

I think this format works well in multiple themes. Managers Monopoly, Club Monopoly etc.

Yeah. You're the fun draft manager now so I'll PM you some of the evil Bamboozle ideas so you can insert them somehow. Power cards should be easy and there's all sorts of stuff that could happen in the box where you draw a card which could be lucky or unlucky (whatever it is called).

Exactly. The problem is whether ranking is done honestly or strategically. E.g. ranking Aldo, Ontta and Raees 14-16 and Harms and P-Nut 2-3 (I'm 1 of course). I exaggerate, but along those lines.

You don't rank your own team obviously. So if there's 16 teams in total you'd rank the others in the order 1-15, with your 1st getting 15 points, 2nd 14 points, etc.

Honesty is something we can't be sure about but not all of us would be that fussed. Maybe making rankings public after they are all submitted to the mod would not let anyone do something completely absurd.

Aye, I thought it seemed shite TBH. As repetitive as the match threads can be, its still where most of the interesting details on a player are teased out IMO. The more obscure players would hardly get a chance to be sold at all in a team ranking system, and the same can be said of the more esoteric formations and setups.

Anyone I can PM my pick to who will be online in the next few hours?

TURN 1

By the way, @Edgar Allan Pillow, can this be threadmarked? This is a great visual indicator of where we are placed on the board.

@Edgar Allan Pillow I know it has been discussed but dunno if it was decided - what happens to those that are dropped due to box 13? Are they back into the pool or blocked?

Re-Matches- whilst they can be repetitive they allow an underdog to win if they get their strategy right.

Also the matches in the SA Draft didn't seem as repetitive as others.

@Edgar Allan Pillow Are you thinking of experimenting with a match clock or similar on this draft?

I think EAP decided that those players will get back into the pool just to make things more interested, though I'll wait for his final word.

aye all for that, would be an interesting feature of the draft :)

I can do it. Would @harms be updating this for every turn? :p

They are back in the pool and available to be picked. Will update this in OP too.

I did not see any workable theme being proposed for match clock. Can you link me to the proposal in the Next Draft thread?

Yeah, all foreplay and no penetration.

Discussing players, their strengths and weaknesses, the fun facts etc can only be done in the match threads - without the links to the actual game it'll be too abstract and won't be so interesting.

As bad as the games are, the alternatives are worse

I'd be all for trying out some kind of Eurovision model as an experiment.

However, I would say that while some matches certainly are pointless enough, others are genuinely interesting in terms of tactical points, player presentations, etc. And the sort of arguments you get in the good match threads are hard to imagine in a general sort of draft thread – it simply isn't the same thing when you aren't arguing a particular, in-match point (where the people involved more or less visualize something taking place on the pitch).

The downside to match-ups is potential mud slinging and/or purely subjective arguments – but the upside is the tactical aspect of actually setting up an XI against a particular opponent.

One thing that could make this interesting would be everyone being informed of their dice roll every turn privately via PM. More work for the mod for sure but that would make picks a lot more interesting.
