Lars Bender

I'd rather have Sven, if I gotta be honest. And if we're looking for someone to play the defensive role, we can always turn to Carras whose actually been doing this job, whilst hes been our playmaker the past two seasons.
Just out of curiosity, why do you prefer Sven over Lars?

Bender would be a brilliant signing but 21m seems a bit make-belief. I think he is one of the better players in the world for the defensive box to box role.
Didn't have a great season and also missed the World Cup through injury. 21m isn't too unbelievable. Leverkeusen letting him go after he recently signed a new contract is what seems unlikely.

He's had an average season, shown feck all to suggest he's one of the best in the world.

Lars is an amazing defensive midfielder no doubt. He does really well. However, he is too one-sided for me. If Sergio Busquets could only do well in his defensive duties he wouldnt be as attractive to the coaches at Barcelona. Sven is more well-rounded, and whilst he isnt as good as a ball-buster as his brother, he's way better going forward, atleast from what I've seen. If we were lacking midfielders, having both in the same team would be wonderful tho :)

I disagree

Lars is a more complete midfielder compared to Sven. Sven is very limited in his game whilst his brother offers more going forward. Sven also plays under a very good coach in Jurgen Klopp aswel but I wouldn't have him over Lars.

Lars Bender didn't have the best of seasons but don't forget injuries have disrupted his season. He is quick, mobile and very dynamic and can also offer something going forward unlike players like Carvalho. I personally think he would be a better signing than Carvalho.

Guess that's football for ya. Everyone has their own views. I agree I'd rather have Bender over Carvalho, but I dont even want Carvalho. And Bender is a tad too expensive for my taste. I dont think hes worth anything past the £18m mark, or anywhere near it - both Bender or Carvalho.

Bender is worth £20-£25 million in this day and age

Lars is without a doubt a more well rounded midfielder, a player without any glaring weaknesses. Sven´s shooting technique is not really impressive and while his passing game is solid, it lacks the creativity and range of the one of other top class midfielder.

However, this does not make Lars the better midfielder, just a more versatile one.

Sven is a very specific type of a defender: a classic destroyer. A player with pretty much exclusively defensive strengths. He is an absolute stamina beast, having an enourmous work rate. He is also fantastic in anticipating passing and running routes, which make him Dortmund´s best pressing player. On top of that he is as good in tackling as pretty much every CB in the world, while being mobile enough to play in the DM.

When it comes to deciding between both twins, it comes down to what your team need. Do you want a midfield all rounder, who is more flexible in being utilised you go for Lars. Do you have the specific role as destroyer, who allows the CM partner huge freedom going forward, in mind you go for Sven.

There is one thing to keep in mind, though. There are several midfield all rounder comparable to Lars Bender around, while there is only a very small amount of destroyers on the level of Sven Bender.

It is kinda like choosing between a jack of all trades and a master of one thing.

Thought it was the other way around.

Are you sure you're not confusing the twins? It really is the other way round .

You've got 'em the wrong way round. Sven's nowhere near being as well-rounded as Lars is but he's a much better out an out defensive midfielder.

Yeah, Lars is definitely more of a box-to-box type than the classic DM Sven is. I don't agree that he had a bad season. Definitely not as good as the previous two but it's mostly because of the injuries and the less games he got as a result. His performances were still very solid. The difference between Leverkusen with him and without him is astounding.

Reports popping up this morning saying we're pushing for a transfer, I'd be pretty happy if we get him. Him, then Schneiderlin, then Khedira if I had a choice, which I don't.
Um wait a sec.. Do you mean you want all three, or that is the order in which you rank them?

Bantah.

When I was his age I was masturbating, not angrily failing to rap about football. What a kid, wonder what he's up to now?

I don't know. Hopefully concentrating on eating food rather than making youtube videos, as he makes Neymar look like he could do with a diet.

Arsene and Bender is a match made from heaven.
