La Liga 2018/19

Ramos was horrible in the buildup to that goal. He fell asleep and became flat-footed in his defending. It's as if he was trying to keep an eye for bigger threats than Susaeta but wasn't paying any attention to de Marcos.

Is this supposed to be the performance of the supposed best defender in the world?

Horrible goal to give up, though on replay it looked offside to me. VAR though, so i guess not

We need to start matching their energy and stop settling on crosses

Marcelo turning on the Samba not for the first time in the game.

Ceballos invisible, replace him with Isco
Yeah, Ceballos looks too timid. He isn't taking over like I'd expect him to. I feel like the whole midfield feels tentative about expressing themselves because Kroos is anchoring the midfield.

Another replay of the goal and it really looks offside

Having looked at the replay of that goal, Ramos indeed was focusing on Iñaki Williams. Once he noticed that Iñaki was offside, he relaxed and didn't recover his position.

If true, what's the point in having VAR in the Spanish league? The World Cup was a completely different show.

Ceballos doesn't know where to play.Very poor first half. A bit risky to play without Casemiro in San Mamés.I wonder what is going to happen with him in this system.
Asensio again very shy.
Time for Mariano Nazario
Sorry for the late reply but seems like there's remodeling of the Riazor going on with all that scaffolding. Increasing capacity even after relegation?
They are building a new roof

Vinicius Jr is getting the hard treatment from Lopetegui. He needs a loan. A kid going from Brazilian league straight to Real's first team is too much of an ask.

Meh, it's still better to have it. Still if i'm right the VAR guys really slept on that one. It still astounds me how often refs forget that the offside rule says there should be TWO players between the attacker and the goal...

Mind you, they haven't shown a replay from an angle where it's clear, it's just my impression

Bilbao have done a great job in pressing the Madrid midfield, but Real have beaten the press on multiple occasions. Both Ceballos and Asensio seem to playing a bit too timidly, though Asensio does tend to get more involved on occasion. I'm wondering if the San Mames atmosphere combined with Bilbao's pressing game's getting to their head and making them tentative.

Many consider Ramos the greatest defender ever.

Good change by Lopetegui in bringing in Casemiro for Ceballos. That should free up Kroos and allow them to get more control of the match.

Greatest ever ? Not many i think

They're have been claims as such by people on here, just look the Sergio Ramos thread. "Look at all the trophies he's won! He's a serial winner!".

Although its usually an under 30 thing, I've not heard too many over the age of 30 claim him to be GOAT.

I know that thread and I don't think there is a single post calling him the GOAT of defenders.

Well he has his fans on here, page 3 and 6 of that thread:

Arguably best CB/captain of all time?

Always turns up in big games and 4 European cups in 5 years.

Hilarious to think posters never wanted him here when he was linked.

Genuinely the best captain ever. Best centre back we’ve ever seen as well.

Sergio Ramos easily. Possibly the CB GOAT, never mind best of a generation.

So its not an unusual opinion I've seen on here, or on reddit, or anywhere else.

Ramos was offside in that free kick, and he didn't get called back. Looks like the referees have truly lost control of the match.

How has this referee not wisened up to Real's childish antics? They're getting every call their way!

I like how Isco noticed that Asensio wasn't really making the near-post run and decided to take over. Honestly, that's what they needed against Bilbao.

Modric subbed off at the 60th minute of a game Madrid are losing is an interesting choice. I guess Bale is the star of the team now

I can see why Lopetegui would take off Modric for Isco. Modric has the most attacking role out of all of the other midfielders. He was frequently pushing up to link the midfield and attack, but he rarely made runs past the defensive line. Kroos is obviously playing a deeper role and making use of his passing range to stretch Bilbao. Isco himself is doing everything Modric was doing role-wise but is also making direct runs into goalscoring positions.

To me, Lopetegui made a tactical adjustment and isn't the kind to defer to a player's status.

Bilbao are getting stretched. It looks like their frustrations with Real's antics and the referee have made them lose their heads. There's much more space in the midfield than before, but Real are also playing at a quicker tempo now that Isco's around.

Also, what's going on with this referee? He's not giving any call to Bilbao.

Believe that should have been a penalty for them.

Bale will be vital for Madrid this season as long as he keeps himself fit.

Iñaki for San Jose is a baffling change by Berrizo. Iñaki has been Bilbao's biggest threat, and taking him off will give Real all of the control they'll need to get the winner.
