La Liga 2017/18

"Madrid never won la liga after being in some fixture to 7 points of Barça." :(

La Liga is more competitive nowadays. So a 7 point gap is not unsurpassable. When Messi's form takes a dip at some point in the season, Barca will inevitably drop some points and that's where Madrid need to capitalize. But right now, they should just try to stay in the race by not losing any more games. One more loss and it will be 10 points which suddenly looks scary.

You are obsessed and 5 minutes were fair considering Betis wasted at least half that in the last 10 minutes of the game.
You are a bit obsessed with the guy.

I prefer Messi too, but still.

He is beyond joke now, I'm sure some mods have taken over his account and using it as parody account.

That's the equivalent of saying about someone who has a beer too many once a month that he's a drinker. Get real. There are divers (Neymar, Ronaldo, Di Maria, Robben etc.) and players who don't dive. Messi doesn't dive.

Messi perfected the art of running in between two opposition players and then falling on the ground the moment they try to take the ball of him. He's the most despicable diver out there because he purposely makes it look like "you can't take the ball of him without fouling him".

The third season curse is becomning more than a myth at Real Madrid. And the stupid thing is: Real Madrid actually made a fantastic transfer market, hiring some of the most promisiong young player in the world and recalling some loaned or buyback players.
Barcelona was heavily criticized by their transfers, but they are getting results and the newcomers are delivering.

I still reckon Real's transfer policy in recent years has been spot on and they will benefit from it going forward, they started season worse than Barca but are well positioned going forward. They made a clear mistake by not replacing Morata and also letting Mariano go to Lyon when he could have filled in but they will for sure fix that in January or at worst next Summer.

Barcelona on the other hand are still on their last gasp. Their best players will not carry on for much longer and they do not have replacements on the horizon. I am not that sure they will win the league this season, season is long and 7 points is not really that much. It's a competitive league this year and they will still drop plenty of points.

7 points in nowadays La Liga is quite a gap, but I guess it will make Real Madrid give 200% in the following matches. The mistake would not be so clear if Benzema and Ronaldo were not in such a poor form this season start.

Barcelona may not have a better squad on paper, but the truth is that Paulinho is being quite decent, and Denis Suarez stepped up from last season.
They are basically 2/3 transfers away to become a smashing team once again.

That is it. 2-3 transfers (3 if Suarez doesn't get back into form). And Alena promoted soon. Semedo, Umtiti and Dembele are outstanding young players.

Semedo was a bargain. He is one of the best right backs in Europe. He attacks, defends, and he is very determined and a skilled dribler and passer, and perfectly fits Barcelona style.

And there is this kid Abel Ruiz who I suspect will be a future star.

I agree that Madrid are still going in the right direction with Barcelona having many many more problems with their team/management. It's just that at the start of the season it's been offset by Madrid being sloppy/not having a league winning backup team and Messi lifting Barcelona. I expect the season in it's entirely to highlight barcas flaws irrespective of how well one player performs. And particularly when you reach the latter stages of the CL, it's the team that has to perform and I think their weaknesses remain.

Still, if they do end winning La Liga, their fans should be delighted given they've got many more issues than their rivals. It's only just begun though. Lots of twists and turns to go and both sides will drop plenty of points. I can see both teams being more beatable this year.

So happy with Semedo, no words really

I'm sure Barça thought that too in 2015/16 before RM clawed back 11 points.

After jornada 29:
1. Barcelona, 75pts
2. Atlético, 67pts
3. R. Madrid, 63pts

End of season table:
1. Barcelona, 91pts
2. R. Madrid, 90pts
3. Atlético, 88pts

He will commit mistakes like every player does, but he is very solid. Even at our NT no one understands why Fernando Santos prefers Cedric to Semedo, since Semedo is several steps ahead.

This should excuse André Gomes: sorry dear Barça fans, but in other hand I have to say "I told you so" :P He is probably one of the most infuriating for our NT, so if Barça football department had made a poll from portuguese football fans, they would have saved some money :D

It's still a confortable gap. It gives you an error margin of 2/3 games. And by the look of it, it can get bigger. Real is playing poor football atm.

Don't act like it is unfounded. They've lost their 2nd best player and were extremely desperate to replace him.

The squad is still one of their worst in years, Messi is just playing out of his mind.

Our squad has been piss poor for years, even the treble season defense was in shambles and we just got lucky with key players hitting peak form in crucial matches, something that for example didn't happen last year.

We just turner our biggest asset (strikers) into our weak spot, but we finally have a decent RB with 2 guys to cover there, got rid of Mascherano playing as a CB, have 2 LB, midfield should be enough with the addition of Paulinho and Sergi Roberto being back there and we finally have a coach to put Denis Suarez in his best position as a LW.

We lose a lot of firepower without Neymar, but at least have some depth for games like vs Eibar, Deulofeu, Suarez, Alcacer and even Rafinha should be enough to beat any bottom half team in La Liga as long as they're with Messi, and we already know Messi will play as much as he wants

You could look at league leads like a rubber, we are in +7 now, let's say when we hit our bad form (will inevitably happen) we can end up in +3/-2 range of Madrid. +3 would mean Real Madrid having to play their best 11 more than they would like in the league and that could hurt their CL chances, -2 would mean that we're within a game from them so we don't need to go too crazy in the league, all of that having in mind that if you can hit 2 form spikes in a season they may waste one just to try and close the gap we have now.

Also known as "dribbling"

The single big issue Barca have is the lack of a new ball playing midfielder. Other than that the team has been rejuvenated in all areas - RB: Semedo, CB: Umtiti, RW: Dembele. We will probably sign Coutinho next summer and promote Alena and the team is complete. Suarez will probably catch form soon. Yeri Mina will come in January and that's another young talent right there.

Yeri Mina is a great catch. Young center back with tons of potential.

Atletico sign Diego Costa. With the addition of Vitolo also they are going to be even harder and miserable to play against. Hopefully can stay within 4-5 points by January.

Gotta say it. Diego Costa & Griezmann is one of the nastiest attacking duo in the world. They're the perfect strikers for a classic and compact 4-4-2 / 4-4-1-1 formation. They can create a lot of problems to any defense out there. That front-line is for sure title winning material. Not so sure about the rest of their team though.

Maybe in England, but not compared to Barca or Real.

The goalie and defense looks very strong as usual (even if Godin isn't quite the God level he was a season or two back), midfield I think could have done with someone else of consistent quality in the middle but Simeone is very good changing games off the bench and they have some game changers like Correa, Carrassco.

I like Koke out wide especially with Costa in the team and perhaps if Saul can adapt to a central role it's an excellently balances side.

Even compared to Barca and Real. Griezmann and Diego Costa match up well to Messi - Suarez, and Ronaldo - Benzema.
I don't agree. Messi & Ronaldo on their own take their respective pairing to a much higher level.

Assuming they'll reach the knockout stages, they will be a mean team to play against indeed. Wouldn't be surprised if they reached the final again.

What impressed me about yesterday's game was how comfortable Betis looked on counter attacks towards the end of it. They were moving the ball with such grace and tempo it was almost no surprise they score. You need to admire technical ability of these lesser Spanish teams compared to Premier League equivalents.

The only team that has beaten them in the last 4 seasons was Real Madrid. They haven't lost to anyone else and they have played Bayern, Barcelona twice, Chelsea and a few other top teams.

It's quite odd tbh. Some of these smaller La Liga clubs can play crazy good technical football.

Yeah, their passing, dribbling is sometimes really great to watch. It's rare that weaker Spanish team plays terrible football. They struggle or refuse to defend in high numbers though which is they often see themselves spanked silly by Real or Barca despite playing decent football (like Eibar found out two days ago) but when it clicks, they are really capable.

Through a whole season it could be, if Atleti, Real and Barcelona faced competition on their level week in week out.

For the league title, Atleti have a good enough squad to fight it until the end, and in Cup/UCL knockouts I think Griezmann and Costa can do almost as well as Ronaldo or Messi if they find a good level. Simeone hurst his teams chances by leaving the forwards too far from the enemy area, leaving Atleti toothless for parts of the game. But Griezmann and Costa are good enough to create chances in a 2vs3 starting a counter from midfield.

Admire Setien, he did similar with Las Palmas
