La Liga 2017/18

Quite evident it would be real's fans. Because a CL-title > whatever other title in Europe, no matter how a league is won. Barca are used to winning La Liga. A season where they don't get passed QF in CL is almost enough to kick the coach out, unless that coach wins the league to save his job. And it is the same with Bayern; they won the Bundesliga, yet the season ending is still a bit bitter because they should have gone through to the CL final.
Or Juve, for similar reasons.

They win the league, but it is never as sweet as getting your hands on the CL trophy.

In fact, for Barca, snatching the league in the last second from Real's hands would be sweeter, than winning it 2-3 gameweeks ahead - and yet, still not sweeter than winning the CL.

That's a ridiculous way of thinking.

It's not even close to compare it with Bundesliga, they didn't win it ahead of fecking Schalke, they won it just ahead of their main rivals and the team that won that same CL throphy they were also fighting against. It's also the best league in the world, and by the looks of it they will finish the league unbeaten. They have also won the cup against the mighty rival who will win the CL.

That's genuinely the worst refereed game I can ever remember and I've seen some crazy shit like refs giving penalties when they've got their back turned to play and giving 3 yellow cards.

Bale should've walked for a disgraceful challenge yet doesn't even get booked
Marcelo stonewall penalty denied
Ramos should've picked up a second yellow
Suarez blatantly fouled Varane for the 2nd goal
Alba should've been sent off for grabbing Modric's throat

Honestly it's the most incompetent refereeing I've ever seen.

edit: Fair enough he got the Roberto red right but even then he hits him on the shoulder and he goes down clutching his face. I wonder if the ref seen that afterwards at HT and it's played on his mind for the penalty decision? Boy who cried wolf and all that...

Very entertaining game, with both sides giving it a go. The referee was crap for both sides though. Bale should have seen red for a deliberate stamp on Umtiti and it was penalty on Marcelo.

I am not comparing the leagues quality, I am comparing the dominance in the leagues. Barcelona not winning the league is a failure worthy sacking the manager - as in Bayern and Juve. And also Real. Whether you like it or not, the only way Barca's tremendous season will get the biggest headlines is if Liverpool wins the CL trophy. Else, winning the CL 3rd consecutive time will always speak louder.

Asensio is only really effective if the opposing team is trying to get a goal and they're able to counter, when Madrid are dominating and they're the ones looking for goals he's poor more often than not.

He's got a long way to go before he can be a regular starter for this side.

Same as 2016.

Going undefeated is a nice feat but they've had a lot of better league campaigns than this. If the ref calls the penalty on Marcelo they shouldn't be rated any lower than they will be now.

If Marcelo penalty was given and they were defeated, quite obviously they will be rated lower than now(assuming they will go undefeated in the remaning games). I dont think they care about having better league campaigns earlier, all they cared today was to protect their undefeated camapaign, and Madrid came to win to prevent that. But they could not.

The label 'invincibles' is too rare and obviously they are happy about it. Ask 100 of their supporters, what do they want - Undefeated campaign or a better campaign( if that is even possible) and I am certain all 100 will ask for invincible campaign.

Let's put the inevitable question : If Barca win the league undefeated + Cup, and Madrid won their 3rd CL in a row, which team would their fans be happier ? :D
Fans will always prefer the CL. It is the most prestigious trophy and it is the last important game of the football season.
But Barca definitely have had the better season.

Excellent assist for Bale tbf.

Who cares about the headlines, you were talking about the fans, and Real fans are looking in Barcelona fans' back for the entire season. And even if you are talking headlines, Barca had basically one/two poor games this season and that was against Roma, Real Madrid were average for most of the season, and manage to save their asses in just few games.

Finally they got the pasillo . Maybe Madrid should have done it but this was too much

Well, let me refer to both. I think Barca fans are in 7th heaven, yet it will still be provoking to see Real lifting a CL trophy. Righteously so. If I was a fan of either these two, then I would have picked the CL. But that is just my stance, I don't think there is a right or wrong answer to this.:)

And I do think the headlines will be stolen from Barca as well, if Real wins it. Although, when the world cup dust has settled, and new season is about to start - then it will be all about Barca's great unbeaten record - but for this season alone, it is all dependent on whether Real gets the third consecutive or not. But hey, I could be wrong, we'll get to see it, if real wins it.

And if Bale gets the red card he deserved, it's a totally different game. Madrid got some favorable calls to their advantage as well.

2-2 is a very fair result considering the terrible officiating for both sides. Barca did damn being well down a man.

There was some poor refereeing, but I think it would be fair to say that the players don't exactly help...

Good game, but it was a bit of a phoney war anyway, with Barcelona having already mathematically won the league.

I think Isco will most likely start if he's fit by then

It’ll most probably be Isco, imo. Sacrifice a bit in attack to gain control of the game against Pool?

Is Isco out of the game ?

Should be fit but I'd be very surprised if Isco started, he was very poor against Bayern and substituted at half time I believe. He's a very good player, but he's a midfielder, not an attacker, and considering they already have a great possession keeping midfield, all having Isco does is significantly reduce their goal threat + work rate as he seldom ever makes runs in behind.

Could happen, but I hope note. Has to be one of Asensio / Bale for me.

Zidane usually prefers to start Isco in these big matches. If he's ready, I'm pretty sure he's going to start.

Thought Benzema was unbelievably good for Real Madrid tonight as a false nine.

Shame that he didn't got a goal tonight.

Argubaly MOTM for Real Madrid.

Well and if Alba got the red card he deserved before the Bale red card.. it was terribly refereed game, my point is they could have easily lost that. If the ref calls the penalty and Barcelona had lost tonight I wouldn't rate them lower than I'll rate them now. You can check my comments on the threads about Arsenal's invincibles and I've always said the same thing.

Going undefeated should be more of a footnote than the big deal it's made out to be, I think Arsenal getting a golden trophy for it started this.

They never watch clips at half time.. The games are reviewed afterwards and refs are rated for their performance .. Just think he had a really off night to be honest. . But to his defense he got zero help from his assistants. .

How many teams in the history of football can you say have had an undefeated season? To go undefeated over 38 weeks is absolutely incredible. Zidane mentions how much winning La Liga would mean to Real and how difficult it is to win the league, let alone go undefeated.

Like Arsenal, Barcelona should get a special trophy made for them. It could be another 30 years before we see another team go undefeated in the PL or La Liga.

I think the Messi-Suarez partnership is the best I’ve seen in 15 years or so. They seem to really click off field too. A treble and an invincible season really puts them in a category of its own. The rest of tge Barca team is extremely average for their own standards.

I think Barça fans would change the doblete , and the unbeaten record in exchange for the Champions without hesitation. The celebrations have been so-so, precisely because they know that the season is tarnished by what Madrid do.

In the same way that if we lose the final, this season will not be worth anything to us and we will have to face the next with a tired team and with a lot to recover in la liga

I think it's happened fairly recently in all of the top leagues and I'm guessing it will start happening more often given the top teams' dominance is getting bigger.

I don't think how often it happens should really determine how big of an achievement it is. Winning a league title with the biggest goal difference ever would be more impressive than winning it undefeated for example but teams wouldn't really get remembered as much for it which is pretty weird.

If you're going to give a special trophy for going undefeated why not give a special trophy for scoring over 100 league goals for example? I just find it pretty random and I think it started by the media buzz around it when Arsenal did it

We would trade La Liga for CL, but considering Madrid were supposed to walk the league Barca fans will be happy. Camp Nou was amazing today and the celebration with Pique after the match were great, even getting the staff to do a guard of honor.

This Barca team still far exceeded expectations considering what they were at the beginning of the season. They are proud.

The ref in his report said the Marcelo incident wasn't a penalty because there was no blood

I think the guard of honor at the end of the game was excessive. It seemed more the typical Piqué moment trying to be the most funny of the class.
They have been defensively great, constant,Messi has been great but for what I see among friends is one of the seasons in which they are less excited.
Despite all his good job I don´t see anybody truly in love with Valverde , and the defeat against Roma is a big stain on his way through Barcelona.
In any case you're right, they have exceeded expectations and have turned the loss of Neymar into a profit, although I think Dembelé's will not end well.

That is a bit petty and small time (same as Madrid not doing the pasillo for them). If a team doesn't want to show you respect, you should just leave it at that because it says much more about them than about you.

It was a joke. Madrid will always look much worse than Barca in this situation

It's not ao easy to be ref in a match like this where people play dirty, complain about every call, and take dives all the time.

I agree. . Half of the time players go overboard just to fool the ref.. But there were some really awful calls tonight ..

Unbeaten record is amazing but any Barca fan would surely trade that for the CL Final this month.

Speaking of unbeaten records, it's happened a lot more than many would think. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perfect_season#Association_football

Juventus and Porto (twice) have been done it recently. The great Milan side did so in the early 90s. Arsenal were simply media darlings in those days and thus drew fare more hyperbole. The CL, FA Cup, and League Cup were there for the taking that season and they choked it away in typical Arsenal fashion.
