La Liga 2017/18

Leaving Ronaldo out completely is a ridiculous plan.

Don't know. League is gone and Real will still finish 3./4., besides the loss. If they knock out PSG, it's worth it. Many injuries and Real can't afford to lose another player.

Love seeing Madrid lose on a late goal, they got absolutely Ramos’d

About time Espanyol beat them. Always seem to raise their game against Barca but bend over for Real every season.

Doesn't change much for Real though, they'll still finish in the CL places and as long they're still in the CL, they can salvage this season.

.

Zidane will probably start playing full strength teams in La Liga again if that happens though.

That to me is exactly why I feel La Liga is overrated. Top sides there do it all the time. There is way any Premiership club, even Man City, dare to play weakened sides in the Premiership if they don't want to come a cropper. That is the reason players over here are more tired as every game is competitive, & clubs playing in Europe don't have the luxury of strolling through games by resting players.

yeah, I guess having the league all but lost has nothing to do with that

And look what happened when Madrid rested players, they ended up losing. I'd still take La Liga over the EPL. If United end up finishing second it might be the weakest second place team of all the major leagues right now. I also think the bottom ten of La Liga are much better than the bottom ten of the EPL.

This approach only worked for Madrid last year when they were able to field a B team with Nacho, Varane, Danilo, Isco, Kovacic, James, Vazquez, Asensio and Morata. Not sure if there is a club in Europe that had better substitutes in this or the past year.

I don't get this, La Liga is overrated because Real Madrid has to play the best 11 in the world to reach 90 points? Or because they could swap that same 11 with subs like Isco, James or Morata who were world class level?.

Then, they're in the same situation as EPL teams, you can see how once they start fielding players below top class they start struggling, Real and Barcelona were walking the league because they were good enough to do that and walk the UCL too, look at what City has been doing this season with a great manager and more than 11 world class player, that's La Liga domination in Manchester fashion

I just wish Atletico had been able to play Costa from August they'd be right in this title race and as good a bet as any for the Champions League. Maybe a long overdue win at Camp Nou on Sunday can make things tasty but seems a tall order to gain 8 points.

People are misinformed.
He only really rested Cristiano and had Benzema (who came on) and Carvajal (who's been poor this season) on the bench. Most of the missing regulars are simply injured (ie. Modric, Marcelo and Kroos) and Casemiro was ruled out through illness. So it's not like Zidane had much choice either way.

Benzema surely should've started. He's been out for months and has started to score goals again so would've thought 90 minutes for him would've been beneficial.

We just "swapped" Arda/Gomes and Deulofeu for Coutinho and Dembele in the league, we should be even better from here until may imo,

Carvajal is playing a strong season imo best RB in the world atm. Achraf hadn't played for a while so he got another start in a borderline important game.

You chose a weird time to say this, tbf. Real just lost mainly because they rested players/had injuries. Also, Madrid had much better strength in depth last season. It’s not that Madrid and Barca have been that much better than the rest of La Liga, they’ve been better than pretty much the rest of Europe for a good while now.

La Liga teams have dominated Europe for a long time now - and I include both the Europa and UCL in that. Hopefully the English teams bounce back this season but I’d say the reason the EPL is so competitive, is because there’s been no top teams on the level of Madrid/Barca/Bayern for a while now. So it does make it more competitive.

You sense things might slowly be changing again now though, especially with the money available in England and some top coaches working there.

Carvajal has been criticized by Real Madrid fans since his return from the viral infection, only from the PSG onward he has looked like himself again.

This season (so far, things can turn 180º in the next two months and Carva seems to be finding himself) Sergi Roberto has been hugely superior to Carvajal, and that's only one player, probably a couple more in Europe that have been better.

Where've you been hiding this season, bro? La Liga thread's been missing you. :p

Maybe, but if he can't use these kinds of games to rotate (especially given the considerations that come with having four of your starters missing) then when? Lucas Vázquez has been in very good form of late so couldn't really drop him, Asensio needs game-time to continue his development and Bale needs match fitness as he's still not looking right. So in my mind the choice was effectively between Benzema and Isco, and he picked the latter who'd himself not been in great form recently perhaps with hopes of getting him a good 90'. Guess that didn't turn out.

From what I've seen he's been nowhere near his performance level of recent seasons... I think the RM fans on here would agree, but I could be wrong of course. @giorno @Vato thoughts ?

Been more in observation mode. Not felt much like posting, but every now and then... ;)

I thought he has been good, maybe not as great as in recent years but still pretty good. Our young boy Achraf has been good too every time he's given the chance though.

Good to see you back, dude. Thought you had died.

Sad day for La Liga, Enrique Castro "Quini" has died today in Gijon.

One of the most beloved players in the history of Spanish football, Barcelona and Sporting have lost a legend today. May he keep making people happy wherever he is now

Didn't expect this defeat, as Real were flying high recently. Great chance for Valencia to overcome them now :D

Girona on 37 points now after beating Celta 1-0.

Amazing season from them.

It's all about CL for Madrid now. A do or die competition to save their season. They can maintain a top 4 spot easily even with these crap results as there are many easy matches they can win and secure their spot without much problem.

Just realized that barca played all their toughest away games already.

Invincibles incoming?

In what world is an away game against Sevilla not a though game? ;)

Yes, keep nitpicking. The teams they will face are seriously lopsided to the bottom of the table.

Stop making absolute statements if you don't accept them being tested.

The schedule is done at the beginning of the season so there is no chance they knew who will be amongst the bottom four. La Liga has seen stranger things, there was a year, 11/12 or 10/11 don't remember exactly, where Madrid would play the team Barça played the week before over several consecutive weeks. Most teams got seriously whacked twice.

DEP.I was reading again the story of his kidnapping and it is totally surreal.
My brother-in-law, Asturian, supports Sporting and Barsa thanks to Quini, and probably is not the only one

I'm really sorry making a post about it. It's really ordinary and not intersting at all. Didn't want to offend you.

I will also be more careful making statements and be more precises.
