La Liga 2017/18

They were really shit in 99/00 season - finished 5th but they won the UCL so all was forgiven

Hard to win the league when you win CL in the same season. Similar for Liverpool 2005 and Chelsea 2012. Carlo also when finished 3rd with Madrid but won CL. If they won CL this season no one will give a feck about their league season. The terrible thing is if they got knocked out from CL against PSG. That will be the complete failure.

The league was close back then though - 2 pts behind 2nd place and 7 to 1st.

Guess no offside with the guy sliding

Not the best view, but even without the Madrid players, the Villareal player was probably in line with the ball.

PSG are going to murder Madrid if they don't pick up their performances. They are not guaranteed a place in the CL as it stands and that would be the unthinkable scenario for Perez and the board.

They were average in the UCL aswell until the knockout stages - came 2nd in 2nd round group stage - level on points with Dynamo Kiev ( without sheva), Bayern completely destroyed them in both matches (4:2 and 4:1). And it had to be against us when they started playing decent again :wenger:

They seem to always kick out starting from the KO stages. Let's see what they'll do this season.

Toshack was manager then wasn't he?

The days when Brits were in charge of some of the biggest clubs on the planet.

Real are just going to have a hard time in the transfer market. Playing second fiddle to PSG and City.

If they manage to offload Ronaldo, Bale and Benzema (that's the rumor) they'll be flush as any other team, but with the attractive that they're Real Madrid

They'll sign players like Dybala and Icardi.

They're still Real Madrid. If your dream is to win the champions league it's still the safest choice as a career move.

Madrid we'rent bad today at all, they've played much, much worse this season. Villareal got that bit of luck, they didn't play really well. I don't think Madrid deserved to lose but these things do happen, Madrid need a bit of a reality check at the minute. The league is gone for them. They face a tough task in the Champions League too, they'd better find some form soon.

Madrid shouldn't be worried about not making the top four though, that's hysterical thinking. La Liga is strong, but not that strong. Madrid have had a couple of tough games lined up Barca, Celta, Villareal at home. The easy games will come as they always do.

If you look closely, you'll see the pattern to that season: fecking dire under Toshack, great under Del Bosque

As for today...welllll....no, i don't know what to say anymore. 'Tis the season i guess. Just hope we don't feck up bad enough to miss out on CL next season, that would truly be apocaliptyc

Zidane needs to eat his damn hat and try something different though. It's just not working anymore. We should scored 2 or 3 in the first half without even playing well. We need to change something. Bench cristiano instead of bale for a start. Bench kroos who's out of form. Have the midfielders attack the box more. I dunno. Do something different

Madrid should try to get Ozil back on a free at the end of the season, better than Kroos IMO.

As for Zidane, he's hardly a tactician, although his understanding of the game was incredible as a player, as a coach he just trusts his players to do the bussines as their individual qualities takes over, my guess is he would struggle badly in any job outside of Madrid.

Main problem for me is, once Modric declines there will be nobody to break teams down quite like him, Isco and Asensio can't be trusted to perform on a consistent basis. Benzema is past his sell date, and Odegaard should be recalled.

If Ronaldo is benched, he'll throw a tantrum for the ages, hardly what the team needs especially considering the circumstances. With him, it's either commit 100% or just get rid really.

If the rumors are true that he wants a new contract, presumably with higher pay and longer duration, taking into account the form he is in at the moment......that is a whole new level of delusion on his part.

Andreas Pereira not in the squad for Valencia this evening against Deportivo, is he injured?

when it comes to total league titles, Barca will close the gap between them and Madrid on 8 after this season, and they already have the most spanish supercups and most copa del rey titles. Messi will give them at least 3 good years + they have Dembele for the future so there's good chance that soon they'll be only 3 or 4 titles away from them. wouldn't be surprised if Barca overtake Madrid in 20 years time.

Depor should've got an improbable draw out of that. Terrible miss.

Jesus, Real are literally falling down from the top without any parachute. CR7 is literally finished. Real have to cash on him this summer.

Atletico have become the "1-0 king". Must be so boring to watch them.

Valencia very lucky with their win today. 2 fluke goals and an incredible miss from Deportivo right at the end.

Montella had a shocking start in Seville, they've just lost to Alaves 1-0.

Aberlardo doing great work there.

Just noticed Barca are in San Sebastian tonight. Got a feeling they'll end their hoodoo tonight. Was it 2010 they last won at the Anoeta?

Jefferson Lerma said that Aspas called him "negro de mierda".
Aspas said that those conversations should stay in the pitch but denied it.
I guess that we will find out soon if they use the cameras

Gomes in for Iniesta for Barca. Wonder if the only remaining unbeaten run in Europe ends tonight.

Just last season actually. 1-0 in the Copa.
If you meant league-only, then you have to go back to 2007.

Since La Real's return to Primera in 2010, Barça's record at Anoeta reads 1W 3D 5L :
- Real Sociedad 2-1 FC Barcelona (30.04.2011) *La Liga, Jornada 34
- Real Sociedad 2-2 FC Barcelona (10.09.2011) *La Liga, Jornada 3
- Real Sociedad 3-2 FC Barcelona (19.01.2013) *La Liga, Jornada 20
- Real Sociedad 1-1 FC Barcelona (12.02.2014) *Copa del Rey, Semi-Final, 2nd Leg
- Real Sociedad 3-1 FC Barcelona (22.02.2014) *La Liga, Jornada 25
- Real Sociedad 1-0 FC Barcelona (04.01.2015) *La Liga, Jornada 17
