Atletico have only took 3 points from last three league games, albeit two were tricky away games. Probably a must win vs Real after the international break for them.

Kinda amazing that I feel even a team like Real Sociedad would easily woop our ass because they are technically on a completely different level to us.

Impressive game from them.
Not really, see the matches during Moyes season. That team finished 6th in the league that season I believe, with Griezmann and Vela having great seasons. But in the CL they couldn't do it.

Come on Ronny lad. Don't let me down now!

@SirAF @Cal? @Vato

Bale scores with Real's first shot. Hate the shadow cast across half of Real's pitch. You'd think Real would have the clout to do something about the position of the sun.

That first half was current Real in a nutshell.

It took Leganes nothing but a disciplined pressing/transition effort to shut them completely and even bring them into trouble occasionally. It's fair to say they were the better team. But in two isolated moments of brilliance (Isco for the first) / clinical ruthlessness (2x Bale), Real turned the game around completely.

It seems to be the hallmark of Zidane's reign... the most distinctly unimpressive looking RM of the past decade and yet they're, somehow, comfortably top and haven't lost a game in ages. Their CL win last season was equally "plain". They seem both more solid defensively yet still concede loads of chances. The midfield is full of chance creation though. I can't quite put my finger on it.

It's been effective though.

Surely he's not playing bad again?

He's playing exactly the same as he's been doing the past 3-4 seasons, it's just that his finishing has dropped off quite a bit this season in terms of consistency. He seems to need even more shots than before...

Holy shit, that's the dirtiest foul I've ever seen Marcelo make. Should have been off.
Fair's fair imo, don't dish it if you can't take it and since the ref refuses to get this game under control, the players have to do it themselves.

We are playing so badly atm though I am amazed with our current form and all these injuries we are still somehow undefeated and top of La Liga lol.

It's complicated as hell. My take is this: Lack of defensive contribution from the offense, bad vertical compactness & no real plan of how to attack through the middle (despite all their talent in that area). So it's mostly wing play, crosses and long balls offensively (lots of turnovers), and vulnerability for counters defensively, even against much lesser teams. Dire offensive structure, leaky defensive structure.

But they have forwards that can always score from these kind of chances, defenders that are great in isolated 1:1s, fantastic set piece ability and a strong mentality in crunch time. The midfield is doing a monster job maintaining a minimum of balance (without quite succeeding, of course). So weirdly, the team is somehow suited to their chaotic approach and Zidane manages the star players' egos well. Hence the overall good results. But it's walking a tightrope all the time.

Looking forward to the Madrid derby, Real often looks like a different team in matches like that, much more focused & coherent.

People forget we have been missing players all season and arguably our most important one in terms of position in Casemiro, who we don't have an actual backup for. We started today missing 5 starters and in the UCL as well.

We will be back to normal once Casemiro and Modric are back on board and once hopefully in Jan. we buy an adequate backup DM/Anchor.

Yeah, their comebacks will help for sure and they are important parts of the midfield whose contribution I praised. But the team characteristics I tried to describe are not down to a couple of injuries in my eyes. They are much more fundamental and it's been like that since at least the late Ancelotti days.

Moyes never coached Griezmann at RS

We still equalled the La Liga winning streak record with Zidane and beat Barcelona at home in that streak. I think our whole dynamic is very poor without a proper DM, as the back is often exposed as Bale and Ronaldo rarely track back and Marcelo is often also caught up the field. Also highlighted is Varane has been quite sub-par this season and cost us a couple of wins on his own back from stupid mistakes. So we are having quite a lot of trouble. As much as I like Kovacic, Isco and Kroos they are no comparison in midfield to having Kroos further forward teamed with Modric and a solid clean up man in Casemiro in behind.

As for the UCL final it was never going to be a blow out they came off smashing us 4 nil in La Liga and knocking out Bayern and Barcelona from the UCL, I honestly thought it a miracle we actually won all things considered.

I think a alot will change once we get players back and as long as we can stay in the race atm with how bad everything is, I think we are in good position.

What were people's thoughts on the Madrid game? Want to see if they reflect with mine (live).

Yes @SirAF, was there mate.

We played like dog shit, but we still won, thanks in large part to Bale and Morata. Thought Nacho was good too and Modric off the bench. The rest garbage. The game was pretty out of control though, they just kept fouling us because they could get away with it, how Morata didn't punch someone in the face I will never know.

Agree with the mentioned players, Nacho is a good call. Kroos deserves a mention too, good all-round performance as usual.

@FC Ronaldo What were your impressions? It always looks different in the stadium than on TV.

want sevilla to knick this hopefully with a Vietto goal

Roberto with another mare.

I can't believe Barcelona didn't buy a RB this summer.
