Why the hell do Spanish teams play such cracking technical football? Is it the coaching?

Guess you're less skeptical of him now, eh? :D

It's looking unlikely that Athletic will get anything, their away form this season is crap and their recent record at the Bernabéu is even worse; on top of that they're missing De Marcos, Balenziaga, Yeray and, worst of all, Aduriz too probably.

Haha, I was very skeptical of him. I was even more skeptical in how N'Zonzi would be able to handle the big role he had been given, when Sampaoli started arrange his team before the season, and I really doubted the loan of Nasri.:nono::lol: Basically, I unintentionally jinxed everything in the favour of my team, so I should be expecting some kind of official recognition from José Castro, Monchi and Sampaoli, as a reward for my superstitious powers. :wenger::lol:

To be honest, not only have Sampaoli proving me wrong, but I like this much more than the Emery version of Sevilla. And I really like Emery's Sevilla (despite our useless season last year, that got saved in the last game when we won the Europa League).

I start to believe. Sampaoli is a god. Love him.

 And yet another clean sheet! How many clean sheets have this team had so far (including all competitions)? 4? Maybe 5? Is this really the same team that got beaten by Real's underperforming reserves in the super cup? Same team that got outclassed by Barca in the spanish super cup, and that played tennis with Espanyol in the home premier? Quite remarkable how Sampaoli eventually figured that his team's defense needed to be fixed and adjusted first, before we started to put more strategic depth into the attacks. Usually coaches are too stubborn to admit faults in their initial philosophy, and chose to ride along with it by any means necessary, despite all the warning signs along the way.

yeah. we are coming to the point where it really starts to be more than just luck. Sampaoli is doing wonders with the team. The competition between the players seems to be really productive. I am quite happy that Rico continues to start most games.

Real up 1-0, with Enric Saborit gifting them an early goal.

Benzema involved & very lively for a change, hopefully he recovers his best form.

Yeah, definitely. However, now the tough part of the schedule starts. An unpleasant away game vs Sporting, then Barca right before the internationals. The schedule will continue to be uneasy until after the away game vs Celta Vigo in mid-december. It will be interesting to see whether our morale and opinions concerning the Sampaoli-effect and the team have changed after november, or after december. It is exciting at the same time. But I don't like that we have Atletico, Barca and Real Madrid at home during the first part of the season. Last away game of the season is at Bernarbeu; could be deciding the title and Sevilla's chances for the 4th spot.

Athletic looking more dangerous, but lacking composure at the end. That said, you know Real Madrid only need half a chance to score at any given time...

RM taking charge in the last 5 minutes of the half, Isco and Bale very involved.

Fixed that for you. :wenger:

After a good start with some pressing, Real Madrid reverted to their characteristic 4-3-0-0-3 defensive formation again. At times there must have been 50 meters between the first and the last line.

When Ronaldo is wasteful like today he's really hard to bear. Athletic could get something out of this game.

Ronaldo with a terrible pass to start of a counter, then Varene with a horrific back pass and Williams blows another one on one. Honestly don't see the hype in Varane.

Varane doing a Stones, great save from Navas against Williams.

Shady how? That was as selfish as they come.
He's one on one with the goalkeeper, it's practically the final kick of the game and his team are winning. Also he hadn't scored, have no problem with him going for goal.

Well, with that Real Madrid are somehow top of the league.

Both RM & Barça have looked unconvincing so far this season; Atléti and Sevilla much better. Villarreal as always keep overachieving.

At least put up a better fight than United. Was not expecting anything from this game, but they were not disgraced especially having a number of players, mainly the back 4 missing.

Ability-wise he's a complete world class defender. Only a handful of players are capable of performances like the one he pulled off in Dortmund, for example.

He is still inconsistent, but his feck up frequency is not really worse than Pepe's and certainly better than Ramos', who produces one or two howlers per match in recent times.

It's just a damn hard job defending at Real Madrid and I don't think there are many players who would look much better. Especially young ones.
