La Liga - 2014/15

Atletico are leading at the Calderon against Getafe vis a Torres goal.

April is gonna be some month for the top teams... especially Barça and Valencia,

04.04 Sevilla v Athletic
05.04 Valencia v Villarreal
05.04 Celta v FC Barcelona
07.04 Atlético v Real Sociedad
09.04 Athletic v Valencia
11.04 Sevilla v FC Barcelona
19.04 FC Barcelona v Valencia
26.04 Espanyol v FC Barcelona
26.04 Celta v Real Madrid
29.04 Villarreal v Atlético

and less important at the top but a great game in anticipation anyway,
29.04 Athletic v Real Sociedad

May will be harder on RM, with the exception of Atléti-Barça on jornada 37.

Atletico are done in terms of title race IMO, they'd have to have a perfect finish to the season to even stand a chance and even then they'd probably only just miss out. Keeping top 4 status is going to be key for them, Sevilla will be only 4 points behind if they win their game in hand and it's really nothing at this stage. I still expect them to finish 3rd ahead of Valencia but any slip here could be costly.

The CL could have an effect on that April schedule as well, 14/15 and 21/22 April are the QF dates. Very tight at the top.

Valencia continue to surprise me. At the start of the season, in terms of transfers, it wasn't at all clear that this year's squad was stronger than last year's. To be honest, I'd expected them to be running out of steam by now, but they aren't.

A nice Marca history graphic for the clasico. Some of the best remembered clasico events of the past 20 years.

They've made some very good signings. Otamendi, Mustafi, Rodrigo, Gomez, Perez have all worked out very well. Negredo is the only one that hasn't quite worked out. He used to be so good for Sevilla, what on earth have City done to him. Parejo has also continued on from last season's from. Paco has stepped up as well although injures disrupted his rhythm but looks like he's back on top form. Also the emergence of Gaya is a lovery surprise especially after losing Benat to Bayern. Piatti has been superb and Feghoulli is as he used to be, talented but not always consistent. All in all its a great squad. Whats more they have the youngest lineup(and squad) in European top flight.

Losing Mathieu and Bernat and bringing in Otamendi and Gaya were the ones that surprised me most, I had expected to see those sales hurt, but they really haven't. As you say, several of the others, have either returned to their best or continued to progress. And it's still early days for the new owners, so assuming they hold their CL place, the chances are they cn strengthen again in the summer (even if it's true we're trying to poach Otamendi!)

He was excellent for Sevilla in 2012/13, especially the latter half, and for City up until February 2014, then he abruptly ran out of steam and returned to his previous more inconsistent form. In fact that whole year of 2013 (and a few months before and after) was probably his best sustained period ever. To be fair he picked up a severe injury at the start of this season that he only recovered from about halfway through, so it was always gonna be a write-off. Hope he can get back on track.

Love seeing this Piatti, he was quite a disappointment the last few years, but he's back performing at the level he had at Almería.

Glad to see Alfreð score his first league goal for Sociedad today. Only started 5 times. 103 minutes this year. Agirretxe is hardly setting the league on fire but I guess his target/defensive like nature suits Moyes' negative tactics.

The hell has happened in Sociedad - Cordoba match? Three red cards for Cordoba ?

I didn't see the match only the highlights. Cordoba (who were already bottom of La Liga) had a new manager in charge - ouch.

The first red was after 6 minutes, a "last defender" sort of decision, tough but not really anything to argue about. Cordoba took the lead a few minutes later, but Real got an equaliser. Cordoba then hung on until the middle of the second half, then Real scored again.

Next red came a few minutes after the 2-1 about 10 minutes from the end, a second yellow for a Cordoba player - again probably fair enough, yellow card offence by the rule book, but that left them with 9. Real scored in injury time and another Cordoba got a straight red for arguing with the ref. From what I saw, none of it looked like a particularly nasty or violent match, just one of those things :D

Cheers, looked like a comedy gold on livescore.

I love the Casillas thread on Real Madrid´s spanish forum. Here´s the reaction of the Madrid´s goalkeeper coach after Suarez goal

More Casillas

Casillas performance rating in the newspapers clearly benevolent in contrast to Bale for example:

@Sly Any chance of translating what's on the pictures? Especially the who want to be a millionaire one.

Well according to them he was badly beaten in Suarez goal but tbf they have been criticizing his form for a while now.
They have but I don't see much wrong there. But I guess it would be more uncomfortable to blame the midfield and attack which stayed in the dressing room in the second half.

Quick translation

What will Casillas do in this situation?

A- Save the ball

B- Bury himself

C- Dive the wrong way

D- The statue

You don´t see but the vast majority of Madrid fans do. They also criticize Ramos

Translated a bit better. In the newspaper grades pic they mock the fact that the rating says "He didn´t do well in Suarez goal and the worst is that he lost the sense of security. He isn´t well. Saved two in the end" and they still give him a 6 nevertheless

Casillas was alright I reckon. Maybe could have done better for the Suárez goal but harsh to blame him too much for that, and otherwise made some good saves.

The problem is they have been on Casillas back for a while now and every supposed error just turns into pages and pages of abuse. The majority in that forum wants him out of the club. But according to them no one wants him, has big wages and is too expensive to release.

Arent madrid rich enough to bench him till he gets frustrated and someone else gets interested? They seem to have endless streams of funds always.

They're probably right about the last line, he's been hard to shift.

I think he's had a good season overall though. They should be looking to upgrade but that doesn't mean he's been poor. Dreadful against Schalke though.

He's blameless there. Ramos and Pepe struggled badly with the two goals and during the rest of the match.
