La Liga 2013-2014

Because the tens of thousands of people in the ground should create the atmosphere not Song 2 by Blur. It's so plastic and small time, I hate it. Frankly, it's embarrassing that a club as great as Bayern Munich need to play music after they score to create atmosphere.
Good point, but it's not like the fans don't make the atmosphere at the AA anyway. Add in the song to that and it makes it even better. Everyone has different preferences though, some will like it others won't.

Costa seals it! They won't be slipping up here Raul :p

this is going to be an incredible achievement by Atletico. Almost there. 3 more wins to guarantee it.

2 wins and a draw vs Barca will also do it, right? Better head to head versus Real.

Excellent, win the next 3 so that they can rest players in the final game for the CL final ;)

The rest of their opponents have got little to nothing to play for from now on. Barca will lose the last game if need be. Take my word for it.

I know, damn it. They have to play Valencia and levante away, so hopefully they will drop points there. They also have to go to the nou camp, but if barca are out of the race by then, then I think it will be a suspiciously easy three points for atletico  :nervous:

Offensively they've been running on fumes for a while now IMO... Valencia (A) and Levante (A) will be killer, with Chelsea (A) sandwiched between that as well. Villa hasn't scored for a while either and that missed pen isn't a great sign for the future.

Their game against us is definitely the easier of the lot.

Levante, Valencia and Malaga have nothing to play for. Elche needed the points.

Valencia and Levante will only play for pride.

Or Florentino's largesse :wenger:

I would have thought every fan in Spain apart from Real and Barca ones want Atletico to do it, right?

I struggle to find one.

You know when you have no justification for something but you just don't like it.

I like Costa but that's it, I don't think they play great football and it's a one season wonder.
agree with this.

Simeone's style seems too intense to last for over 1 season.

Having said that, hope they win this season.

I take your point on Valencia, who also have their own European games to focus on, but surely Levante would be a tough nut to crack at their own stadium, as they'd just sit back and leave all the iniative to Atléti, which is what they struggle most against.

Won't be suspicious at all mate

I think they might lose points at Valencia, but they seem really motivated to finish the season off as champions. Can't see them loosening up in fairness. They can also afford to lose one of their remaining games, can't they? It also depends on Barcelona, if they slip up once more then Atletico are clear at the top as Barca will certainly help them at the end.

They won the cup last season and the Europa League a couple years back.
Chelsea don't play great football either.
Yeah that's been pointed out - even still I don't see them as arrived.

I don't get the Chelsea comparison.

Thought that too initially, but at the end of last season... They were in 2nd place from matchday 3 to 26 and only then did they start to slow down. So what do they do this season? Take on the CL as well and improve their intensity even more!

Their current style isn't made to last over several seasons for sure, but they have more pressing and significant structural problems (ie. of the financial kind) that would prevent them from challenging regularly than that.

You don't have to play great football to win or be successful.

One season wonder in which way? How many teams sustain such a challenge in all fronts? Semi final of the cup, Semi final of the CL and top of the league heading into the last 5 games. The only reason this will be a one season wonder is if they sell their better players, which is entirely possible I guess.

You are saying they will not challenge next year?

Potentially, both Valencia and Levante are tough away games. But those two teams are not exactly dying for points now are they? Valencia have the EL semis to worry about, and both Valencian clubs are safe from the drop zone and too far away from European places of any kind.

More the wonder side of it - this season is way way way beyond expectation and even belief - due in part to a Barca side that seems in transition/fading and a Real side thats just kind of always a bit imbalanced.

I don't think they'll contend both major trophies next year, no.

One only has to look at Dortmund to see that even teams playing great football, with some short term success, are unlikely to sustain at the highest level or retain players/drive.

Unfortunately, for world football, the names are unlikely to change too much, unless there's a big money driver (City/PSG)

In a way yes, there are similarities, but Atletico is even more of a shock, for several reasons.
I would say atleticos is a better achievement because barca and Madrid are still playing at an elite level imo. If fergie was there I don't think Liverpool would win tbh and Chelsea badly need a striker so they can beat small teams consistently as they have no problem in big matches

A lot of Spanish fans including Valencia and Levante fans have a "second club" - usually Barca or Real Madrid, and of course there are plenty of "Anyone But Barca" and "Anyone But Madrid" fans as well. However, Atletico are a ray of hope for clubs like Valencia and Athletic that the duopoly can be cracked again. In other words, Spanish fans are even more conflicted than normal. :D

It's a bit like listening to United fans talking about City, Chelsea and Liverpool.

What I have in mind is that Liverpool financial deficit to the EPL's top clubs is much smaller than Atletico's in respect to Barcelona/Real Madrid. Atletico have also done well in the Champions League (hell, they may even make the final) while Liverpool only had their league to play for.

True, I read somewhere that Liverpool have outspent united since the premiership began

This is the first time it has ever happened. A Spanish league game moved on a Friday, to accommodate a club playing in the CL. It's the first time in the past decade at least.
but did Real and/or Barca have their fixtures moved before ko matches last year? I seem to remember Fergie talking about how BPL clubs should do the same
