Kylian Mbappe | Signs new PSG contract until 2025, La Liga says they intend to file a complaint

Not sure why people are saying he lacks ambition, he's 23 and about to become the most well paid sportsman of all time. Add in there's a WC in December, why should he move this summer? He has plenty of time to go to another club, he gets paid, club gets a fee when he does leave, it's a good scenario for all.
Because no one watch the French league, and no one cares if he wins another 10 domestic trophy with PSG? Its just a farmers league no one cares or talks about.

I wonder if the manager situation is playing a part and whether he knows if there will be a change or not. Because i can't believe it will just be about money and as some others have said he's Paris born so the thought of winning the Champions League with PSG would be huge for him. And i can't believe he'd stay if Poch is which makes me think they've lined up a manager he's happy with and thinks they can go far in the Champions League with.

Do English football followers really care about any domestic league other than the Premier League though? If people cared about league titles, then you would give more credit to Messi having 6 league titles to Ronaldo's 2 when they were both in Spain directly competing against each other. For Mbappé it's more about the Champions League (which Real Madrid have shown to be better in), rather than La Liga vs Ligue 1.

It’s more about global attention and standing. Sure one can care about their regional league more than CL for example, but regional league does not have the same global attention or standing at all, and the standard of football there is very shite. Bottom line, its irrelevant league, you can’t build a proper legacy there as compared to other great players in better league.

There is no universe where Haaland ever signs for PSG.

I just can't see how Mbappe could choose money over a competitve league, a shot at some Ballon d'ors and a stainless CV. He would have enough money to last him and his family a hundred lifetimes no matter where he went. It sickens me that someone with the talent to become one of the all time greats chooses to play in the 5th best league in Europe for the money, in stead of the challenge and glory in Spain or England. He will not have a shot at a single B d'or while he's in Paris, working for homofobic slavers in a one team league. It's just a shockingly bad career decision (just like Neymar).

Haaland will get his fair share of money too, but he will choose the best sporting project of the astronomical offers he has on the table. The best sporting project will never in a million years be PSG, playing 40+ domestic matches a season. CL football alone doesn't warrant a good sporting project. This season must feel totally meaningless for the top players at PSG.

I was talking about City when it comes to Haaland, not PSG.

It's different for Mbappé though as a Parisien himself and the face of football in France, to Neymar taking absurd money to leave Barcelona, where he was seemingly happy. I disagree that he would be staying in PSG purely for the money. You can hate them all you want, but PSG are a big club now reputationally, whether you like it or not, Paris is an attractive destination.

Also if France win the World Cup and Mbappé scores 6 or 7 goals, he probably wins the Ballon d'Or. And if PSG win the CL, he probably wins the Ballon d'Or. It's just whether they can win the CL, when they don't play enough competitive matches during the season. But then their CL performances are similar to City's, and City play in the strongest league in the world. So who are we to know. Playing competitive games all the time hasn't helped City any more than PSG.

Calling leagues as farmers' leagues is a terrible fad, there may be some better leagues but it can't be that 95% of world football is rubbish.
In any case people watch the big teams. A neutral can watch Madrid, Barcelona,Juve,Bayern,PSG or Borussia, no matter what team they play in their leagues.
And since Messi/Cristiano there are as many fans of players as fans of teams.
No one will watch Getafe-Villarreal, Brentford-Southampton or Bochum-Arminia unless they have a huge amount of time on their hands.
I mean, he may think (hopefully not) "my presence in this league will create more attraction, more interest, which in turn will attract better players and investment".

It's funny as well that some of the same people who are strongly against the Super League are the first people to call all other leagues and teams as farmers leagues. For most of European football history, great players were spread out among many countries. The idea that the 5th best league in Europe is rotting your career away is an entirely modern phenomenon. If you want all the best players to be playing in the same two leagues, then why not go ahead and have a Super League then?

And in this case Mbappé is french, he grew up watching french football, he cares about french football. I would worry about anyone that puts global attention over their own identity and the local repercussion of their actions because we live locally not globally.

Not sure I've ever watched Mbappe play a league game ever, I only see him in UCL and international matches, I watch EPL, LA liga, Serie majorly......and that's a lot of football for any football fan, there isn't even live access to Ligue 1 games in Nigeria because no one cares, if you stick to such league, your followership will be little globally and you'll not fulfill the "next best thing post Cr7 and Messi" tag.

I'll agree with you if this was common with French footballers but they all leave Ligue 1 and as early as they could possibly do so.

I don't think he will stay and all of this is just noise till the end of the season.

And that's an issue, they leave because other leagues offer more money. And that's an ouroboros, there is no way for a league to attract eyes if the players worthy to attract them leave and it's disappointing to see supposed Football fans support that dynamic and state that they won't watch "such leagues".

Do they leave purely for money though, I would say they do so to play in better leagues and better clubs as well.

I would play for Scunthorpe for the amount he is being offered. Hes still super young and this single 2 year contract will set him and his family up for generations. If you include all the other sponsorships stuff along with bonuses he will probably be earning easily £100m+ per season.

He can move to a better club in a few years or rinse PSG again.

He is super rich already, and won't be playing for pea nuts at Madrid either, greedy players tend to not fulfill their potential (Neymar, Pogba).

I am a big supporter of the super league, I think the gap to the big/super rich teams (who win the national leagues again and again) is getting bigger and bigger, and it seems an unstoppable process, so a competition where they could get more funds could help certain teams to get stars. For example, Haaland to Milan, as they could pay him and he would play weekly against the best.
And in this case Mbappé is french, he grew up watching french football, he cares about french football. I would worry about anyone that puts global attention over their own identity and the local repercussion of their actions because we live locally not globally.
In that you are right but on the other hand he already showed that loyalty with his move from Monaco to PSG.
As @Trex says, and no disrespect, it's still not the same as la liga or the premier.
It lacks a rival with a similar level and some medium level teams in between. Maybe I miss seeing him in trouble, not just in the two months of the top Champions League games.

Neymar was amazing before he broke his ankle twice, it has nothing to do with greed. Also, players like Messi and Ronaldo were as greedy, the only difference is, Real and Barcelona were willing to pay everything they asked for and they did so for years, even if it put the club in jeopardy (Barcelona).

No one said that it's the same, the point is that it won't be the same if players don't stay or if the best players don't join. You can't have it both ways, you can't promote the idea that players should leave a league because it's beneath them and at the same time look down on the league for lack of appeal.

And the rivalry part is BS, no one watches leagues because there is a rivalry or close competition, most people watch leagues because it's their local league or there are star players. Most people have little idea or interest for foreign leagues beyond a few game here and there.

Neymar was "amazing in Ligue 1", Messi and Ronaldo negotiated what they felt they deserve and got it proving them right, Barca financial woe was more about expensive purchases like Coutinho, Greizmann and Dembele alongside their wages which they couldn't back up with performances.

Yet it produces the majority of talent around Europe. The farmers league comments are cringeworthy, if people actually had that opinion about so called "famers leagues", we would have missed out on some of the greatest players of our generation.

Yes, it is obvious that the locals will watch their league(Although there are many more experts in foreign leagues today than there were decades ago) but I mean, if for example Olympique had a millionaire owner who could bring in stars, it would attract more neutrals, and perhaps Mbappe's performance would be more valued.
His own Messi-Cristiano.

Yep, Real Madrid were the ones that paid a world record fee for Ronaldo and were the richest club in the world at the time, if Real Madrid were broke, Ronaldo never would have went there for the simple love of the club. It's a job, it's a business. You judge by a mixture of salary and prestige. Real Madrid have both, so it's win-win. If someone in the Qatar league offers Ronaldo £1m a week to play for them, the balance isn't right between salary and prestige. If Real Madrid offers Ronaldo £20k a week to play for them, the balance isn't right either. PSG gets that balance right more than people give credit for. It's a very attractive proposition. Live in Paris, play in the CL guaranteed, paid a fortune. If you consider the CL to be the pinnacle of football then PSG is more attractive than United for example, where the PL does not guarantee CL football.

I'll agree with you if this was common with French footballers but they all leave Ligue 1 and as early as they could possibly do so.

I'm sure nearly all those players would stay if PSG wanted them, like Bayern with German players. There's less than 20 players in a PSG main squad or whatever, so then they follow the next most money (Premier League).

But then their CL performances are similar to City's, and City play in the strongest league in the world. So who are we to know. Playing competitive games all the time hasn't helped City any more than PSG.

No they aren't. In the last 5 years PSG have been knocked out of the Last 16 3 times and City 0.

But here you are exposing the fact that the issue lies with neutrals, they are the ones in the wrong. They look down on a good league that provides good and great players every year, these players don't even play for PSG. People are doing to frankly stupid thing, they are missing on actual Football in a context that iisn't overhyped and they judge players that they don't even watch. They also expose an asinine mentality that essentially amounts to believing that if they don't know or care about something then no one should.

The reality of Ligue 1 is that every game has at least one player worth watching because talent isn't concentrated and unlike around 2010s, the coaches aren't as negative as they used to so games aren't totally closed, though it's not the most open league either.

Yet it produces the majority of talent around Europe. The farmers league comments are cringeworthy, if people actually had that opinion about so called "famers leagues", we would have missed out on some of the greatest players of our generation.
French players are good, and the French national team is probably the strongest. But French league is not, most of their best players don't even play there anymore, and the remaining top young talents are looking to move elsewhere.

Benzema? Varane? Would Camavinga have picked PSG over Madrid, Would Griezmann have moved back if psg rivalled Barca for his signing?

Can we please stop to dismiss any performance from any player just because "it's ligue 1"? That's a ridiculous arugment, the same used against Mbappé that gets ridiculed when you look at his stats in the CL against top teams at 23 yo. When you know football, you know some players are just "great Ligue 1 players" or simple "great". Neymar was great.

The mere fact that most posters here don't watch Ligue 1 games doesn't mean performances in this league are irrelevant. They are to you, but not for scouts all over the world that harvest this league every year to send players all over europe in top teams.

You say this as a PSG fan, Neymar never reached his Barca level at PSG, there was an argument he was already Messi, Ronaldo level when he won the UCL at Barca, he never got to that level at PSG.

Well if you are French, I could understand you may hope one day Ligue 1 will get all the attentions all over the world like PL or LL do. But at the moment they are far away from that level. Most likely only locals or people related to France will follow them, people outside their country have near zero interest in it.

And if this is the league Mbappe wants to spend the best years of his career with, he might never ever able to reach the level of football greatness he could potentially reach. There's is no competition in this league, and no prestige in terms of winning domestic trophies in this league either. Most people across the world would regard this as farmers league. Its like European version of MLS, good place for retirement for top stars (that part is a only joke though). But that's the reality.

French players are good, and the French national team is probably the strongest. But French league is not, most of their best players don't even play there anymore, and the remaining top young talents are looking to move elsewhere.
How are they any good if the league is terrible though? They can't all just be born good footballers and are just ambling along in Ligue 1 to their detriment, until they can get shot of the league. Money is the difference really, we'd be a farmers league if Sky hadn't come along.

People are looking a bit spiteful here, if he wants to stay who cares.
Hell he might win more ucls there than he would in Madrid, future is always uncertain after all.

Mate, you admitted yourself that you never watched a single league game, you don't know what you're talking about. When did ignorance start to be an valid argument?

When Neymar started at PSG, he was so good that it looked like he was playing a different sport in Ligue 1. It took a blast when he broke his ankle for the 1st time. He came back strong in 2018 but broke his ankle a second time. Now he's very inconsistent but he didn't prevent from delivering (occasional unfortunately) stunning performances like both games against Bayern last year. He was also the best player for PSG in the final 8 in 2020.

I'm talking about his level for PSG in the UCl you can't tell me he has been as good as he was when he won the UCL with Barca, you could argue that year he as just as important or even better than Messi, he never got to that level playing in PSG not even when they got to the finals against Bayern.

He has been as good when not injured, outside of this season. The issue is that he has missed a lot of KO stages due to injuries.

Yes. But that part is meant to be a joke though, as I've already said. But you know what I mean.

Its irrelevant league, but still a good place at one point (at PSG) for ageing top stars who is nearly past their best but still want to have a last shot for more money before going to MLS or retiring (Beckham, Ibrahimov, Buffon, Ramos, Messi etc)
