Kylian Mbappe | Signs new PSG contract until 2025, La Liga says they intend to file a complaint

No one's going to give Barcelona substantial money for a 17 year old child whose contract expires next year.

He’s turning down 80£k a week. If he wasn’t that important they’d just let him go and keep De Jong. They’d still get a decent fee and save around £150k a week potentially.

I simply wouldn't take the decisions of Barcelona FC as a mark of the quality of players.

It's a bad league for older players because it's a young league with fast and physical players. You are just exposing the fact that you have no clue which makes sense since to you it's irrelevant. The logical thing would be to stop talking about it and focus on things that you watch.
Du you mean exposed like:

Cavani in domestic competitions for PSG from the season he turned 30:
0,94 goals/90 - 1,18 goals+assists/90

Zlatan in domestic competitions for PSG from age 30-34:
1,0 goals/90 - 1,37 goals+assists/90

And peak season for Zlatan, 34 years old, in domestic competitions for PSG:
1,24 goals/90 - 1,68 goals+assists/90
?
I have to admit that I don't watch much French football, but both Cavani and Zlatan produced the best numbers of their careers playing in France after turning 30.....
.....Ben Yedder is a 5'7'' (to be kind) 31 year old, Payet is ripping it at 35....

Is it really a tough league for good players, playing in a team much superior to every other team in the league?
Is Ligue 1 faster and more physical than any of the other top 5 leagues? How many players under 25 years old are among the 50 best players in the League? .....compared to other leagues?

Mbappe will play 40+ games a season in domestic competitions against far inferior opponents for PSG. I believe he won't reach his potential before he gets better matching week in and week out. The only way to get that is by playing in a better league. This is why 2 more years at PSG is a bad career move for him.
The best players need to play in against the best week in and week out to stay the best.

Cavani and Zlatan are exceptional athletes, there are few equivalents to them. Payet is still great at set pieces and he has scored a lot of penalties this season but he in generaly he has declined a lot. Ben Yedder is a bit of an enigma, his ability to be at the right place at the right time is quite exceptional, you could compare him to Pauleta who was an other player that managed to be relevant in his 30s in Ligue 1.

Your final sentence is key and it has no ground in reality, no one plays against the best week in week out. If you take the top 5 leagues, players play against roughly the same level of competition most weeks, the difference is generally two to six more tough games per year depending on the league and teams form. And if we use Ligue 1 and the PL as an example, the vast majority of transfers between these two leagues are mid to bottom table ligue 1 players moving to mid to bottom PL clubs. So the majority of games are played against the same caliber of opponents.
There is definitely a difference at the very top and it shows in European competitions where PL top teams are better and deeper but these are not your week in week out game.

I misread your post but the majority of people really don't care about that, they don't pay too much attention to that kind of things particularly when his parents come from west Africa and are from a generation that is bound to either support Bordeaux, Saint-Etienne or Marseille. Pogba in general is a dividing figure some of their fans want him because they rate him and others don't want him because they don't rate him.

I also don't think that he will go to PSG or will be interested but that's a gut feeling.

I honestly have no idea why you actually replied to my post then? I even said "some of their hard-core fans don't want him because of his interview regarding..." - key point being the hard-core point.

You've basically called me out for being a United fan that doesn't like Pogba, then changed tact after I was correct and tried to educate me on something that I literally said in my initial post?

Yes, some fans don't rate him, but some don't want him when he cane out with an interview saying he'd never play for PSG because of his Marseille affiliations, which was my original point - that he put his foot in his mouth.

I didn't call you anything and I started my post by admitting that I misread your post. I literally started my post with the context that I made a mistake.

Let's rephrase it to against as good opponents as possible then.

Could you agree to the following being a tendency for transfers between the 2 leagues?:

The best players from mid to bottom clubs in Ligue 1 move to mid to bottom clubs in the PL. Players who struggle at mid to bottom clubs in the PL or faces relegation moves to Ligue 1. See the difference?

What would the table look like for a league containing these clubs (bottom 10 clubs in Ligue 1 and PL) after 38 rounds? :

Brest, Reims, Montepellier, Angers, Troyes, Clermont, Lorient, Metz, Saint-Etienne, Bordeaux (total squad sum of squad values: 734M £, most valuable squad: Reims 106M £, least valuable: Clermont 41M £. Average attendance combined: 133600 (Only Bordeaux (22k) and Saint-Etienne (23k) with 20k or more))
Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, Brentford, Newcastle, Southampton, Everton, Burnley, Leeds, Watford, Norwich (total squad sum of squad values: 2400M £, PL inflated for sure, but still. Most valuable squad: Everton 403M £, least valuable squad: Burnley 128M £. Average attendances combined: 284000 (only Burnley below 20k))

First, no the tendency that you described is not really accurate in the sense that it's the same quality of players that move when it comes to mid to bottom half clubs.

On your second point I would say that I have no idea about how it would look. And the metrics that you used are meaningless they don't tell you a thing about quality.

I think you have a vague idea... ;)

De Jong is not high profile. Just because he means a lot to us doesn’t mean that’s how he’s viewed elsewhere.

I mean Barca are picking Gavi over him. You wouldn’t pick Isco over Zidane would you.
Isco and Zidane are in two completely different classes. Most United fans would want De Jong over Pogba and in football in general it’s probably a toss up. If we are just talking about profile, PSG already have Messi and Neymar. Pogba won’t raise PSGs profile by that much more

It’s not a toss up.. We just don’t like Pogba at United. He’s better than De Jong and PSG fans will not see it that way. We lose Mbappe and you give us De Jong. Just saying it sounds off.

If Mbappe were to stay at PSG after all this nonsense this year then he would have to go down as the biggest mercenary in football history.

What can he possibly gain from a football perspective now at PSG? He is already worth $100m - and his global stardom if successful at Real Madrid will take him to another level.

He needs the move as well as he’s been surrounded by serious egotistical twats like Neymar for too long and a change of scene will enable him to fulfil his undoubted talent as the best forward in the world.

He is on another level to Haaland. But he must resist the ridiculous wedge of cash the Qataris are trying to throw at him and his family to stay.

In 5 years together at PSG, there was not a single ego issue between Mbappé and Neymar. Neymar even gave a couple of interviews where he said he was happy to help Mbappé score.

Also, if it was purely about money, Mbappé would have extended at PSG for a long time ago. So your post is pretty much non sense from start to finish.

If he stays at PSG another season fans and the club (Real Madrid) will start to lose their patience and he might not be a priority anymore and the club will move on with different targets.

As long as he doesn't go to Liverpool to compete with Haaland, don't really care.

Allegedly Liverpool have an offer on the table for him which is dependent on them winning the CL. This is the source of his procrastination as he has a genuine soft spot for Liverpool

Why would them winning it make any difference to whether he wants to join or not? Surely it's about him winning it with them, and the fact they're in the final for the third time under Klopp would suggest to him he has a real chance at European glory with Pool should he join.

Extra cash allowing them to seal a deal

*pukes*

Haaland going to City is one thing buy Mbappe to Liverpool would break me.

Prize money?

Highly doubt an Mbappe deal would hinge on an extra 4.8m...

Not that it matters at all regarding Mbappé - who will either join Real or stay put - but many sponsorship deals will likely have triggers on massive bonuses for winning the CL. Partially to be offset by player bonuses though.

Liverpool surely can’t afford Mbappé and also he would ruin their careful wage structure. Once you get Mbappé on the wages he wants, you’d be forced to pay Salah the equivalent to keep him happy and then Van Dijk and Mané come knocking on the door.

There is just no way Mbappé joins Liverpool, a club haggling with Salah for every single Pence. Mbappé will demand way more. Even if Salah were to leave (where would he go, PSG funnily enough?) it still wouldn’t make sense to let him go due to wage demands and replace him with someone more expensive.

Why would it not make sense? They get him for a few years, enjoy success together then they sell him for a fortune

It's not that simple.

At the top of the game, it's not the same as the time when they sold Coutinho for stupid fee, reinvested it to get better. Salah and Mane are top top players. As great as Mbappe is, there is every chance that he is less productive than Salah has been for them. And if City maintains their level, losing just that margin of productivity may mean barren period for Liverpool.

If they need those extra money coming with winning CL this season, then breaking the wage structure (you will have to pay other players more too) and the potential barren can be their undoing.

Reselling Mbappe in the future for cash doesn't mean they can casually lower back their wage structure, or they can easily replace him and stay in the same level.

All in all, renewing Salah is the safest bet, yet they're taking too long to agree on new wage. Hard to see they're open to break the wage structure for Mbappe.

It also goes against their entire successful transfer strategy so far. Diaz is the perfect example. In fact every one of their forward were handpicked as being promising low profile players that were on the verge of becoming world-class. Mbappé is already world class and already one of the most high profile sportspeople in the world, and had a larger than life presence that would bring a noise that Liverpool have avoided in their signings until now. Which is why Real Madrid makes the most sense for Mbappé for a variety of reasons but this is one of the main ones, Real Madrid suits the stars.

I can live with that. But for them to be perennially successful during such phase would make it a lot worse.
You said it yourself. They will win everything and sign top dogs now for a while. It's their phase. Maybe a long one.
