Kylian Mbappe signs new contract at PSG until 2025 | LaLiga will file a complaint

Not 100% at all. PSG will always be limited by ligue 1, some great players will always be attracted by historic clubs like Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern, Liverpool or Juventus. We've seen plenty of huge sugar daddies in the history of football, it never killed historic clubs.
Its not just a sugar daddy club though is it. Its literally state owned, and thats just a pisstake.

you’re joking, right?

The relative difference in income and losses between the two clubs over the past couple of years.

Madrid are basically saying PSG can't afford this, is my understanding.

Yeah, that's my understanding of it too. And sure, FFP is a farce. City pretty much destroyed it. But Real Madrid have pretty much enjoyed a monopoly on talent for half a century so it's hard to feel any sympathy. Even Di Stefano was about to join Barca before that was fixed.

I can only speak for myself, but because I don't believe those reports.

What PSG report they are paying Mbappe and what they are actually paying him are simply not the same. PSG owners own a country through which they can pay whoever they want, whatever they want.

The kid grew up dreaming of playing for Real Madrid and now we're to believe he's staying at PSG when both offers are the same? It's just not believable.

It's the same reason you see guys like Salah and Mane linked with moves away from Liverpool, or Ronaldo leaves United after winning the CL, but there was never any talk of moves away for De Bruyne or David Silva or Kompany or Aguero until the end. As though these lads only ever dreamt of playing for City growing up.

These teams are playing by different rules to every other team in the sport and we're all sitting around and still calling it competition. It's not - it's a farce.

Sure. It just feels like I'm watching Microsoft complain about Google. If Mbappe had wanted to join any other European club bar Real Madrid, I'd get it. But I assume they're the most state-sponsored club on the planet, leaving aside City, Newcastle and PSG.

I'm frankly just finding this a bit hilarious. All the eggs in the Mbappe basket and now poof. Maybe they can make a 150m bid for Darwin Nunez.

I'm genuinely loving this entire drama. After all the shit Madrid did with us when chasing Ronaldo, it couldn't happen to a nicer club.

Stop pretending PSG, City or Newcastle are remotely comparable to a “sugar daddy”. They are state owned bottomless pits.

It's not a matter of how much they have but how much they spend. We've seen plenty of sugar daddys giving huge boosts and unbalancing the transfer market in the past, in Italy, in France with Bernard Tapie etc.

Bottomless or not is irrelevant, Rennes is owned by the Pinault family worth 40 billions, nobody cares because they're not spending that much for the club.

The 3 highest paid footballers of all time make up PSG’s front 3.. just ridiculous

Messi was making more alone at Barcelona than Mbappé/Messi/Neymar combined at PSG. So we're pretty far from the "highest paid footballers of all time".

What was his reasoning?? He was definitely going to real Madrid. Pochettino knew before that he would 100% be staying. But, then things were not to clear after that. What change his mind?? I am surprised that he would stay at a club like psg to be honest. They must have gave him the key to the city or the management team built a perfect environment for him to want to stay

And who needs a player like Mbappé or an even better version of him? Pretty much any club that can afford him.
Not really. Like I said, even if you are that good, being that good only goes so far.

Every season there are high profile free transfers, or players who want to leave a club that's willing to let them go, and there is not a big rush from every major club to get them, because they don't fit the needs of the club.

We just saw this, Haaland just moved to City, and who else was really, genuinely trying to make it happen? RM mostly. And where did he end up moving to? The club that doesn't have a striker and which failed at signing a high-profile striker last summer (Kane).

Two birds, one stone. Mbappe to disappear off any footballing relevance proving himself as the mercenary he is. And Real Madrid fecked about in the transfer market. Love to see it. :D

he’s been playing in France all this time and is very much relevant, why would he suddenly “disappear off any footballing relevance” now?

Guy is 23 and has already had a better career than 90% of pro footballers will ever have. Mercenary? You people do know that he wasn’t going to go to Real as a volunteer/on a 0 hours contract, right?

Staying with and trying to win the CL with his local club > hopping to Real Madrid

The Pinault family own companies in countries where they don't control and dictate financial regulation and control. Their companies have shareholders and stakeholders to whom they are accountable. There are limits to what they can spend and report in their accounts - to what money they could hide, even if it was realistic they would want to or be able to.

PSG have no such limits. They can report and declare whatever they like to pay lip service to some joke of an idea of FFP adherence. But then pay whatever they like via the infrastructure of the Qatari financial system they control and police without any outside authority ever possibly being able to even know about it, let alone regulate it.

Messi did not leave Barcelona for PSG unless it was more than worth his while. The fact PSG pretend he took a cut, only goes to prove their bullshit

So who are the top 2 teams right now?
False on both counts
they've won 3 leagues in 30 years. How many have Barca and Madrid won in that time frame?
Ok, so their leagues are currently dominated by one team instead of 2.
Not a PSG fan, just providing some context.
I almost regret making that "technical" comment now. Of course La Liga is a two-team league, Barcelona and Real Madrid dominate it. But a two-team league is substantially better than a one-team league, especially when the other teams don't win the league competition but are competitive in Europe.

Oh yeah, like it's impossible to hide massive amount of money in tax havens. And you don't really know how companies work do you? When you own a company, you don't have shareholdes, you are the shareholder. Or you at least own enough shares to take the decisions. Speaking of tax havens, it's pretty funny to remind how spanish club were paying the players image rights for years (plot twist, it was transfered to companies in tax havens) knowing very well it was illegal but didn't really care because it was the player's legal liabilty that would be actionned.

Neymar was 3rd in the Ballon d'Or the season he joined PSG and hasn't been in the top 10 since.

Mbappe's highest placement was in 2018, the World Cup year, when he got 347 votes. Last season he got 58 votes, which is just 10 more than he got in 2017 when he was still playing for Monaco.

Messi won the Ballon d'Or last year and since moving to PSG nobody thinks he has a chance in hell of winning it.

It's pretty clear that this has an effect on reputation, especially in the long run.

If he was a Marseilles or Lyon player he would have jumped ship before Madrid could finish their sentence.

He's been relevant thus far because everyone has wondered how he would do in a proper league. Now we know we'll never find out (at least for quite a good few years) then that's the end of any interest in his career.

This obviously, I’m embarrassed for those who are defending this.
The idea that PsG, City or Newcastle remotely resemble for example Blackburn in the mid 90’s is insulting and absolutely fecking deluded. The fact they try pretending they pay x amount of money and people believe them, despite footy leaks is hilarious. Mbappe and Haaland are being paid sums of money, off and on the books that no company/football club could ever afford.
They are absolutely fecking the entire game, way moreso than any super league.

They are owned by a fecking country.

La Liga is a much better league than Ligue Un, we all know this. It was more a reference to the dominance of the top teams. Two is better than one, but it's still top heavy.

That's... not at all what happened.
You think a family who own and invest in companies in heavily regulated markets, could or would take money from those investments and find ways to hide that money, so they could cheat at football?

And that if they were, it would be in any way comparable to a state worth many multiples of their worth, and who pull more money than they know what to do with out of the ground and who don't need to hide it, because they own the country and banks through which they can spend it as they like?

The two are not remotely comparable in any way. They have different reasons for being and the disparity in wealth between the Penaults and the Qataris, is 10 times the disparity between the Penaults and me.

Not only that.

The more money a country BURNS in a football club the more DESPICABLE it is. They use football as a washing machine.
That is why you don't see Norway (with an extremely wealthy sovereign fund) BURNING money in a random football club. That is out of question.
It is only dictatorships BURNING money to wash their images. Qatar also bought a World Cup, in winter. you can imagine what they are...

Perfect for Ten Hag’s tricky reds to be challenging for Mbappe’s signature come 2025 after winning the league

La Liga are an embarrassment.
Would like to know the details of the contract.

It is pathetic that La Liga are serving as Reals attack dogs in this way.

Worst football decision ever.

Neymar made himself irrelevant. Sad to see Mbappe follow in his footsteps.

PSG are a virus.

On the plus side, giving a 23 year old a say on coaches, directors and signings makes it more likely they'll keep being shite. Barca tried that with Messi and it backfired.

Time to start watching French football?

Why? To see Mbappe score 5 goals a game?

Great decision. The sooner we move away from "historical clubs" being able to hoard and feel entitled to the best talents the better.

Mbappe secured his financial future and will be fighting to bring a CL to his local club. Again, great decision.

Not really. Now we just have about 4 super rich clubs instead of a dozen historical clubs. It's like saying you'd rather Jeff Bezos bought himself the British cabinet rather than see any more Etonians there. Its just a more filthy rich and obnoxious kind of aristocracy.

If your grandma had wheels, she would be a stagecoach”. Good thing he’s not a Marseille or Lyon player then.

He’s been relevant because he’s an exceptional player with a World Cup under his belt and that has shown up against multiple elite clubs in the CL.

“proper league” yeah, because Rayo Vallecano, Osasuna, Elche and them man are much more prestigious than Nantes, Montpellier and Strasbourg

This is absolute non sense. While I don't like Qatar, they're not burning anything, it's even the opposite. PSG is part of a huge policy aiming at diversifying assets for the country. PSG as a club and brand is now worth more than what Qatar invested. It's now worth between 1.8-2.5 billions depending on the outlets (and that's without counting the new infractructure that is to be finished in a year or two) when Qatar invested 1.5-2 billions.

I think his point is more about what kind of regime Qatar are and what your club is by extension.

I think his point was about burning money, hence why he put that in CAPS. I don't see why he would talk about Norway if it was about the kind of regime.

It's pretty clear that this has an effect on reputation, especially in the long run.

Neymar has missed a crazy amount of games since moving to France.

Messi winning last year was controversial as a significant amount of people argued Lewa deserved it - his decline has been apparent to most - as it should be expected from a 30 something year old - if he were to have a season like the ones he was putting up for Barca - he’ll certainly be in the run to win it- but the likelihood of that happening is low because he’s simply just not the same player

I didn’t argue this doesn’t affect reputation. I argued it wouldn’t suddenly make him irrelevant since he’s been there all this time and is pretty much relevant. I don’t know why you’re conflating these things or struggling to make the distinction

Does anyone have an update on how much Mbappe got out of this? It seems like he might have achieved interstellar influence or something crazy like that. Does he now have the power to start nuclear wars? What does he think about Putin? I need to know!!

La liga complaints are hilarious, besides i wonder who the chairman of the European Club Association (ECA) is so it can be brought up in their next meeting. Oh yeh thats right, the PSG chairman is the chairman of the ECA as well.

Zidane i suspect.

but imagine they go against his wishes or make decisions without him, especially if its written into his contract, its going to get ugly IMO

Guess he'll just leave next summer.
